To be furious about these prices

Seriously...

Flight to Corfu (3.5 hours away) during May half £905 PER PERSON (Jet2)
....The week after £307 (also JET2)

There are some marginally cheaper ones if you go Fri-Fri or whatever (still £750 per person) This is flight only, no seats, bags or meals, no accommodation included.

I am outraged. Why is having school age children penalised in this way by airlines? Who can afford to spend almost £4000 just on flights?

I realise I am lucky to even be able to afford a holiday, but it won't be this!

Well yes you could take your kids out of school ..education vs sun lounger

DreamW3aver · 09/01/2025 19:19

How is this a surprise? Everyone knows school holiday holidays are much more expensive

Business caught in trying to make money shocker.

Clearly people will pay that op for half term. That's why the business prices it there.

One of the ideas of running a business is to try to make money.

Sorry, even cheaper!

Also, a holiday abroad isn’t a necessity. In fact a holiday isn’t a necessity. But if its something you choose to do , you then have to be prepared to pay whatever X costs.

TeenLifeMum · 09/01/2025 19:12

So for about 13 years of your holidays either cost a lot or you’re don’t go. Outside of that (unless you’re a teacher) you get cheaper holidays. Not sure why the anger. It’s pretty obvious why it costs more.

JessiesJ99 · 09/01/2025 19:12

Best thing to do is take them out of school for 2 or 3 days & book flights on the Wednesday or Thursday. I've saved a lot of money by doing that before.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 09/01/2025 19:11

I wouldn’t be able to afford £307 per person on just flights either so we’re going somewhere cheaper. That’s just life isn’t it?

cestlavielife · 09/01/2025 19:11

Look at other destinations they might be cheaper
Take the ferry to France
You don't have to go to corfu

Supply and demand. That how a market functions.

As ever. Nails it.

Have kids, pay stupid prices. The airlines and holiday companies are not in it for the good of their health to make sure YOU get a holiday.

moomindragon · 09/01/2025 19:11

Children aren't being 'penalised by airlines', don't be ridiculous. No one is entitled to a foreign holiday. Airlines are businesses.

Not a popular view but personally I'm glad flights are becoming more expensive, flying is horrendous for the climate and we should all be thinking more about how many flights we are taking.

cardibach · 09/01/2025 19:10

Out of peak holidays are artificially cheap. In peak are a bit over. It’s about what they can sell.

poemsandwine · 09/01/2025 19:09

Flights are more expensive when demand is higher. Hardly shocking.

Supply and demand. That how a market functions.

It’s as simple as this.

NimmyB · 09/01/2025 19:08

Supply and demand. Same as anything else expensive like London housing.
