HELP! [Child rape gangs in Bradford]

bradfordisdamned · 09/01/2025 17:39

I know this is a horrible subject.

This news article from today shows how much it's being ignored here

After the death of Star Hobson, Bradford was stripped of its child protective services because it was completely unfit.

It continues to be an absolute disaster. I feel that this nightmare is being ignored because Bradford just so happens to be the city of culture for 2025. It's being ignored for many more reasons than that of course, but this is completely and utterly unacceptable. I think officials just don't want to be accused of racism and our children continue to suffer because of it.

Can you please help me make some noise with this? I am going to be writing to my MP, but this needs more attention. We need to put pressure on prominent people to get a public enquiry underway. Rejecting it is despicable. They just don't want to admit we have a major problem.

I am pasting the article here because unfortunately the newspaper site can be riddled with ads that sometimes make it unusable, but I didn't want to ask for Mumsnet help without providing sources.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable to want this enquiry to go ahead. I think Mumsnet will agree with me. Thank you in advance.

Officials reject new calls for public inquiry on child abuse

A PUBLIC inquiry examining child sexual abuse in the Bradford area is "unlikely to provide us with any new learning", according to the district's safeguarding partnership.
In the House of Commons on Monday, Robbie Moore, Tory MP for Keighley and Ilkley, said "rape gangs and child grooming" have "haunted" the district "for decades" - and he again accused local leaders of refusing to launch an inquiry.

He added that he feared the scale of child sexual abuse and exploitation across the Bradford district would "dwarf that of Rotherham".

In 2014, a report by Professor Alexis Jay described how more than 1,400 children were sexually exploited by gangs of mainly Asian males in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, between 1997 and 2013.

Phillipa Hubbard, of the Bradford District Safeguarding Children Partnership, responded to Mr Moore's remarks by saying: "The national Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, which was published in October 2022 and to which Bradford contributed, has made it very clear that this is a national issue.

"Like many local authorities up and down the country, we know that agencies in our district have made mistakes in the past.
"This is why we commissioned an independent review into child sexual exploitation which was published in 2021 so that all the agencies in our district who work with children can implement the learning from past cases.

"The review was extremely detailed and thorough, and was written by an independent author. It looked in-depth at local and national learning and best practice.
"In addition to the review, our multi-agency safeguarding team undergoes regular independent scrutiny from Ofsted and the partnership also publishes an annual report, which anyone can read and which is open to public scrutiny.

"All the local agencies who are working in our district to keep children safe are committed to continued development and improvement.
"The view of our partnership remains that a public inquiry would cost a huge amount of money, use precious officer time and is unlikely to provide us with any new learning that would better-protect children from being abused."

In response, Mr Moore said: "This is a complete and utter dereliction of duty.
"The Council says its 2021 review was 'detailed', but it focused on just five children.
"Meanwhile, the Rotherham inquiry focused on the experiences of over 1,400 children.
"The idea that a Bradford inquiry would bring about no new information is an outright falsehood - and I am completely shocked by these comments.

This is a genuine question because I know there could be issues I'm not aware of.

What was wrong with the 7 year enquiry that already happened and the recommendations (not implemented by the Tories) that came from that in 2022? Wouldn't it be better to push for Labour to accept those recommendations ASAP, rather than start another enquiry?

That would make perfect sense. But there would be no political capital out of that

I am sick and tired of this being downplayed.

No one's downplaying it. We've heard of little else for the last week

Fear of racism doesn't stop the police and other authorities when it comes to anti-terrorism. I just don't think the police prioritise violence against women in general, and the wrong sort of women (poor, powerless, voiceless) in particular. I do wonder how many informants the police have in these communities whom they need to stay in situ for assistance in ongoing investigations, regardless of what they are up to.

Does anyone really believe that the male rioters weren't also sexual abusers? Extremely violent angry men with no emotional control.

The statistics on men who rape and who would be prepared to rape given the right circumstances is what you should be afraid of. What happened in France is what you should be terrified of. No one gives a shit. Not the police, not the media. The fact that these specific cases involve brown men make it useful for a certain sort of person. But they don't give a shit about the women involved.

Some will be, but they won’t be part of a multigenerational conspiracy to do so, and won’t be using their religious or cultural views to say it’s ok to do so.

lots of men commit abhorrent crimes, but this thread is specifically about the cover up of crimes that fall into a specific bracket that hasn’t been fully investigated

Dismaljanuary · 09/01/2025 21:29

@Donttellmewhatheknew it's such a emotive subject I don't think you understand.

Do you think it's OK to post to people who have really suffered.

It's not fair.

He hasn’t helped the situation has he? Mass redundancies are happening in my city, 400 from one predominant employer, my DP was made redundant from the SME company he worked for and I have been told it’s in the cards for mine.

People are angry, the block to the enquiry has angered people even more, so yes there will be unarranged protests that a few will turn into an opportunity to riot

If people choose to riot it's their choice and responsibility. No one else's.

There is some truth to the post. On twitter there are court case reports of the most horrific sexual abuse which the bbc and most newspapers have not reported on over the years.

Remember the 3 girls drama shown on bbc?

3 girls raped by Pakistani men , obviously horrific but in no way typical of what the victims went through. The abuse from the gangs was more like torture, trafficking, extreme violence and abuse.

And even in that drama they had to have a northern woman being racist 🙄

The BBC have been involved in some of the worst cases of abuse in this country. And with covering up those cases.

Abuse by white men.

@Kendodd Indeed. I only became aware of this in my 20s, having grown up in a very white, middle class village some miles out of Bradford. The school I went to only had one Asian pupil, the son of a doctor. My work and living in Manningham for a while showed me a darker side of Bradford.

Ok, so following on from the question about why we could not investigate the recommendations of the 2022 inquiry and have another one - is that not what Jess Philips suggested? That there should be local investigations into the local situation? Are people worried that local investigations would continue to cover up inaction by local authorities in certain areas and feeling that it needs to be a national enquiry to counter that?

Well, it's certainly part of it; local councillors, police, social workers etc have repeatedly been shown to have ignored, enabled and/or been involved in the abuse so it does seem a bit mad to suggest these same people be responsible for investigating themselves... but there's also the fact that a national enquiry is necessary to determine if any of the different gangs have anything in common, as then a national response can be implemented. Just investigating what happens in Oldham just tells you what happens in Oldham, and the findings and recommendations can't be applied to anywhere other than Oldham unless you've established that there are common factors. And the only way to establish there are common factors is a national enquiry.

For example, just saying the gangs are predominantly Pakistani Muslim doesn't really help as there are many Pakistani Muslim men who don't rape little girls with their friends and family. So what caused so many to do it in Oldham? Is it the same cause as why so many did it in Telford and elsewhere? Do all the rapists in the country know each? Are they part of the same charitable organisation, or are their mosques somehow related? Is it something cultural that intersects with something environmental, like poverty or lack of education? Without the investigation we can't know for sure - and without knowing for sure, many people will focus purely on the 'Pakistani Muslim' bit as that's the obvious link, ignoring the fact most Pakistani Muslims don't gang-rape little girls.

It actually seems strange to me that the left and 'anti-racists' aren't shouting the loudest for an investigation to determine what it is that made these particular Pakistani Muslim men gang-rape little girls, as once that has been established it can be firmly dealt with and the left and 'anti-racists' can point out it's only a sub-section of Pakistani Muslim males (who are being firmly dealt with) and that the vast majority are not involved. By refusing to investigate, or even really acknowledge an issue, they're just making it look like a cover-up - and that maybe there is a widespread problem with the entire community after all.

So if there are more riots that's Keir Starmer's fault?

I just say what I see. I have only lost parts of my childhood from these gangs, would you be happy if your daughters where subjected to the abuse I posted earlier, daily? Like I was?

ilovesooty · 09/01/2025 21:22

Itsverycold · 09/01/2025 21:19

Well so far he has lost all the hearts and souls of pretty much every Yorkshire woman and man, it started with the riots in Leeds and will end in more riots sadly, especially as a lot of working class people are now facing unemployment.

The red wall fell before and it will fall again, Keir needs to understand the working class people he apparently represents - and the consensus is we don’t feel represented.

I now live in a very middle class area of Yorkshire - so there is absolutely no way I can convince my local Labour MP of anything. As the gangs aren’t coming here and taking the girls off the streets, but I will never forget where I came from - In fact I cant, I have severe anxiety that stems from some of the things I have witnessed and heard (including a period of severe agoraphobia which has a direct link to things that happened in my childhood, some of which I listed up thread). When I say I gave a MN approved version of things that I witnessed when I grew up I mean it.

The only way I can contribute atm is supporting petitions like the ops, demanding justice and educating people via the internet on what is truely happening locally. Call me a Tory bot, call me a liar, I don’t care - I know I am correct and on the right side of justice.

So if there are more riots that's Keir Starmer's fault?

Namechangedforthis2525 · 09/01/2025 21:10

I was meant to add; the reason for cover ups because some of the ones investigating are the same ones who behind closed doors are doing the same. That extends to everything else and it’s sad because we’ve family in the police, a complete different force, and they honestly do all they can to help victims with hearts of gold at home. I think more routine background screening needs to occur during the working relationship, not just at the start and I presume at promotional intervals.

I genuinely feel sick to my stomach. I have always said that the moment a child ends up being monitored by the system, that they're basically a toy for it to play with, or just toss aside like they're disposable.

It's not just girls either, the things done to little boys are just as bad.

@CornishIrish what a load of nonsense it's always been here, it exploded ages ago but since then we've had catastrophic life changing events globally.
Like credit crisis, isis chopping people's heads off and cutting throats in Westminster and covid and all the other horrendous things.
News is news what's today's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper.

Of course people care and have always cared about that issue it's just there are an overwhelming amount of issues and abuse to worry and care about.

I'm thrilled it's back at the forefront of people's minds and I'm happy it's being debated again due to he nature and scale of it.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 09/01/2025 21:20

Andrew Norfolk, the Times journalist who wrote the story of these girls in 2011, gives an emotional interview. He gives a good insight into the issue.

After Brexit, I don’t think the general public should be trusted with a referendum on anything ever again, never mind something as serious as this subject.

I think truthfully Labour will get to the bottom of this eventually, they just need more time to get round to it after the mess this country was left in by the previous lot. Some places like Yorkshire have been woefully left behind for many years and, as a strong Labour heartland Keir will be keen to win the hearts and souls of the people in those counties. So keep pressing the relevant people in your constituency OP and hopefully you’ll find some resolution on the matter.

Well so far he has lost all the hearts and souls of pretty much every Yorkshire woman and man, it started with the riots in Leeds and will end in more riots sadly, especially as a lot of working class people are now facing unemployment.

And alot of these cases are actually rape torture of 12 year old and under if you read Elons posts on X.

Just before I go. These are proven facts. They come from Court transcripts of "grooming gang" trials. Elon Musk's dissemination of them is totally irrelevant and has zero bearing on their factual nature. Hope that helps.

OP just wanted to pop in and say how much I support you. There has been a lot of callousness, apologism and abuse towards other posters on threads on this subject. I've been posting in support of what you are asking for elsewhere. I'm not going to post on this one as I don't think as I can't face it tonight, but I wish you well. Agree it's despicable of C4 to show that documentary about that one girl now so that people like some of the ones who flock to post on threads like this can point to it to say it's all made up.

Flowers

Thank you so much.

I'll believe the police were worried about looking racist, when everyone explains why the police weren't worried about looking like misogynistic pedophile apologists who don't care about women and girls from deprived backgrounds.

The truth is that the all of these services are stretched to the fucking breaking point and that girls who aren't perfect victims, and dare to be poor or 'troubled" aren't worth worrying about. Unless you have parents who have the time and money to advocate for you, no one will give a shit.

Rape is basically legal for men in this country whether you're black, white or anywhere between.

At the 14:15 point.

They aren't even recording them!
