Neighbour has been unwell with flu . Just rang and asked her if she needed any shopping . Gave me a short list including washing liquid . She asked for the Persil " non binary one " . 😁 She knows i am posting and wants to read the responses to cheer her up .

I humiliated myself at a quiz night with my parents at their work family event when I was teenager. Dad worked at a university.

We were given the quote “religion is the opiate of the masses” and my Dad said Karl Marx. I argued with him (rather too audibly) that it didn’t sound the sort of thing one of the Marx brothers would say.

I worked doing transcription in college. One of the guys would type "patient had Pabst (brand of beer in the States) smear, " and/or "a public examination." He had 4 sisters we thought he might have done it on purpose! 😂

I say that Parma Violet sweets taste like old ladies smell.

DS when younger asked for 'those sweets that are round and purple...Old ladies privates'.
Open the floor now 🤦‍♀️

Hes not wrong re old ladies though, as long as you consider that they stash them in their handbag, which is private. Beyond that, well.....

We went on holiday when I was a kid, leaving our neighbour to feed the cats. Got back to a note saying she'd left the back door keys in the conservative.

There are so many ways that can be construed, all of them funny!

Is it just me that is now wondering whether adding parsley to a wash could be....aromatic?

It probably is, and would spanner the washing machine, so if someone else else wants to try it, that'd be great

FallenRaingel · 10/01/2025 00:11

Lavenderandbrown · 09/01/2025 13:40

Always found persil to be an unusual name and never realized it had a French definition!

It's Perborate Silicate - Per Sil

Maybe the Germans who named it just wanted French husbands to fetch the wrong item when sent for parsley too

KnittyNell · 10/01/2025 00:09

Going off on a tangent here but that reminds me of the time I was on a bus and a dear little old lady asked the driver if he would mind dropping her off near the bollocks… she mean the bollards. 😂

LegoTherapy · 09/01/2025 23:56

Brilliant thread. Thank you.

They butter 🤣

What about that tune from the 90s Binery Finery-that would be frowned upon now. A bigoted tune if ever there was one.

Are we related? According to my mum I shouldn't go to somewhere (was it Norway?) in the summer because the midgets there are terrible, and she knew how badly I react to midget-bites.

Could have been Scotland, full of midgets apparently.

Or at least according to my best friend who'd seen Hadrian's wall as it is now and assumed that the Scots must have been tiny as they couldn't get over it.

Woman works in construction, has 2 MScs, and no common sense. I love her.

And forever since I have envisaged an army of tiny woad painted smurfs fruitlessly waving their fists at the Romans over a tiny wall.

I decided it was best not to bring the Antonine wall into the conversation.

BilboBlaggin · 09/01/2025 22:40

My late nan used to complain about "Josaphats Witnesses" knocking on her door.

My aunt used to complain that "the midgets are out - I'm covered in bites" which always put me in mind of hordes of short Ninjas with sharpened teeth, rather than the insects she actually meant.

Asaparagus wee smell, both the generation thereof and the ability to smell it are also potentially genetic. Odd. And people don't always get both apparently.

Well, I feel rather special now, I can do both! 😅

Embarrassingly I've only just realised, 4 hours after I first saw this thread, that she meant non bio

My OU tutor asked us to summarise case studies with "a short vinaigrette" which always amused me.
I was slightly tempted to douse an essay in balsamic vinegar but didn't want to lose marks for blurred writing.
