To think that this is especially scuzzy, even for most dog owners

Yes, it's a dog one.

I live opposite a green where over the last couple of days, people have been putting out there live (now dead) xmas trees, ready for collection. Looking out of my window, I see a couple walking their dog, sniffing around the trees (fine!), then cock its leg and begin urinating over the trees. Some poor tree collector guy will be along to retrieve these trees, perhaps he is wearing gloves, perhaps not - even if he is, I doubt he'll take them off between pick-ups, meaning he'll be transferring dog piss on the steering wheel.

Or is it no big deal, and the trees may have squirrel pee on them anyway and he'll know it's a dirty job?

YANBU - it's gross and thoughtless
YABU - meh, don't care

They have gloves on, and really don't care. My dad worked for the council and picked up all sort of crap. He didn't care. It was his job, he had gloves, and he was more than capable of washing his hands later on.
You are not one of those people picking up those "pissy trees". I would be more annoyed at the throw away culture that is buying healthy trees and putting them out to die later on.

Christmas trees are a crop, much like any other that is grown. The planting, cultivation and cutting down for Christmas decoration provides plenty of jobs year round.
You could say the same about cut flowers, trees cut down for firewood etc.

I will try to control the retching and do that next time! 🤢

Good luck!

Big stretch - the people who collect my rubbish are very savvy about safety equipment and the guy who drives the van does not collect the bins. But has gloves if he needs to.

You're scuzzy

I am still waiting for you to do the maths.

You really have no idea what people might like to do in, say, a park? It's just your dog's toilet?

It's the world! It belongs to all creatures. Where are dogs allowed to pee then?

Ablondiebutagoody · 08/01/2025 18:42

WeylandYutani · 08/01/2025 18:41

How big is a park? How big is the area in which my dog excretes pee? Do the math.
If you think you are somehow going to find the tiny patch my dog peed on, compared the to area of the place we were in, then I think you are the creepy one for trying to trace my dog's pee.

You're scuzzy

Would the foxes not mark it anyway?

I know someone who had a job cutting grass whilst on summer break from uni. He hit a bag of dog shit with his strimmer that some twat had picked up, tied and then dumped next to a lamppost. The bag got whipped up and covered him in dog shit. So I can only imagine a little dog pass is the least of your worries if you work outside.

This happens to me and my colleagues on a regular basis, so, forgive me, if I curse lazy, entitled dog owners who give no thought to the consequences for outdoor workers. Not all dog owners, of course, but enough for me to feel that many are not fit to have the responsibility of owning a dog

I know. I have to use them on Sunday mornings to clear a sports pitch so that kids can play. What do you do with the wet ones where you can't grab it all?

Take the grass with it. It's the only way.

Use the space for what? Eating?
I pick up her poo (as every dog owner should). Do you want me to somehow siphon up her pee with a straw too?

Now this may be a crazy suggestion, and it’ll really blow you away, but there is an invention called poo bags to deal with exactly this issue!

I’m a dog owner and think you should wind your neck in and worry about something important

Yep, like the vast amounts of very human sewage being pumped into our waterways and the gazillion tons of non degradable toxic waste and plastics in our oceans. Or how about literally billions of disposable nappies or radio active waste that takes millions of years to be safe (and they're not even sure about that). I mean, the list of ways in which humans irreparably defile the planet is actually endless - but you're worried about dog piss on trees. Righty ho then.

That's OK then, let her piss away. Have a dump too. Who cares if anyone else wants to use the space

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/01/2025 18:23

No they won’t. What other animals do you seriously think will piss on them other than dogs? There aren’t many other animals around and the tree is only there for a short time. Realistically, it’s dogs being walked that will piss on it.

Where I am we have foxes, deer, squirrels, various birds and of course neighbourhood cats all peeing and pooing before even thinking about dogs.

We have all of those too, and yet it’s cat shit I find in my garden, dogs that piss up my garden wall so it stinks, and a trail of dog shit I had to try to avoid on my way to the shop this morning.

TortieRage · 08/01/2025 18:30

During the summer I volunteer maintaining plants in the village where I work. People constantly let there dogs piss up against the planters, so when I'm bending over to prune I get the lovely stench of hot evaporating piss. Actually the whole village smells of dog piss in the summer.

I've come to the conclusion that in general dog owner's are so desensitised to their pets foul emissions that there's no point arguing with them about it. They figure that because they don't mind the myriad smells produced by their hound, no one else should mind either.

Have you thought that the person collecting said trees will have basic common sense to remove their gloves before touching the steering wheel?

And if they don't remove them you won't actually be in the vehicle to worry will you?

Exactly. It's owners choose for it. They're the scuzzy ones, not the dog.

My entire neighbourhood stinks of dog piss, it’s disgusting. People let their dogs piss on cars, garden fences, in the children’s park. I’m at the point where I automatically think less of a person if they say they have a dog.

I don't believe you.
Outside is not going to be stinking of dog piss, especially this time of year.
The only people I know who who did moan about dog piss smell, were people with several dogs, and a patio, and during heatwaves in the summer. And that is people who let it fester.

Your local park is never going to smell of dog piss. You are making it up. FFS, why do people keep making stuff like this?

Redwinedaze · 08/01/2025 17:33

Missing the point but I’ve never heard of the term Scuzzy. Agree it’s not pleasant, I wouldn’t let my dog wee on something being collected.

Scuzz used to be an excellent rock music station.

RIP <removes hat> 😪
