To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

Exactly, and X was one key vector for the incitement to violence in July/August 2024 and was negligent during and after about criminal content.

MargoLivebetter · 10/01/2025 10:45

It is hardly surprising that British counter terrorism would be keeping an eye on Musk's tweets. He says wild and controversial stuff and seems to be encouraging far right parties and view points. Therefore he is going to be followed by a whole load of nutters who are probably already on counter terrorism watch lists. It probably makes the life of the counter terrorism unit easier as it brings all the far right loons together in a nice easy to follow and track format!

"I suspect genocidal rape apologist might be."

Nope that's not libellous - definitely unpleasant and insulting but not libellous.

Please see my earlier posts for what is and is not libellous.

If he had falsely accused RR of committing a specific criminal offence then that would be libellous.

Libel laws are ineffective against rich people in the USA anyway. And the rest of us can't afford legal fees. Let's face it he blatantly lied about the British diver , purely out of spite and jealousy , repeatedly calling him a paedophile. Yet an American Court found him not guilty.

Apparently counter extremism unit are looking into Musk - pwahahaha 40,000 on the watch list, can't stop the boats, can't stop the grooming and the imams calling for Jihad - but heyho

Good. Someone needs to. Having billions in the bank shouldn't make you exempt from the law.

The abuse shouted at all politicians is awful, tory scum, chucking stuff at them when they don't know if it's acid or a milk shake, throwing bricks through leadership hopefuls windows and being so derogatory about jp is all unpleasant but forgive me I've not seen her yet surrounded by a baying mob with a police escorts and I hope I never will

True, just lives with Police protection and a panic room in her house, this sort of thing used to be reserved for N. Ireland secretaries.

The discord is awful and has, imho, directly led to the murder of 2 politicians, people like Musk feed this, as do people defending him, like many posters on here, with their free speech stuff.

Why can't Musk speak about CSA without the calls for murder on his platform X? its a disgrace that these tweets remain up and thats absolutely on him.

He is doing the same in Germany, supporting the AfD, an organisation with its roots in the Nazi party.... bt all good.

Lets support a guy who backs the holocaust deniers and that the Waffen SS were not automatically criminals, which then led to Le Pens RN pulling out of a coalition with them in the EU Parliament....

But he is an ok bloke on MN....

I’m not sure what you want me to say?! I hate the bloke. I’m just supporting free speech no matter who says it

I don't see how you're supporting free speech, in what way do you think it is being impaired?

I missed this response but, as per the PP, it is not.

bakebeans · 09/01/2025 20:47

Why isn’t he publicly calling out putin then! Or Donald trump if he’s so righteous or other world leaders where abuse and female genital mutilation is still going on??
No it’s a hidden agenda to demoralise the Uk!

I’m not sure what you want me to say?! I hate the bloke. I’m just supporting free speech no matter who says it

I have no idea why people are complaining about "authoritarianism" and "free speech".

Musk, as an American citizen, has the right to free speech and I have not seen anyone suggest that he does not.

He is part of the incoming US administration and is (seemingly and reportedly) making a concerted effort to destabilize the (democratically elected) UK government.

Someone suggested the UK should sanction the US. I don't think that's realistic but doing so would not, in any way, violate anyone's right to free speech, nor would it be authoritarian.

I'm actually glad Elon is shining light on something our politicians tried to bury.

Why do you think politicians tried to bury it? They made a pretty poor job of it if so. Andrew Norfolk and Julie Bindel were writing about it 13 years ago, there have been documentaries and a TV series about it. I first heard about it in 2012.

Yep. I certainly am. I don’t think you are though. They is one thing expressing free speech and one thing chipping on decisions ofa government of a country. Can you imagine the Uk had called out on pensioner Biden or Donald trump!

if he is so for ‘free speech’ as you say why hasn’t he called out Putin on Twitter?? Hes so against abuse but in some countries it’s still happening and no crime deemed to be committed so no prosecution
This is not free speech. He’s also accused an MP who has fought for years against domestic violence.

Because he's free to criticise, or not criticise whoever he pleases... he doesn't have to meet your criteria.

And what do you mean 'the UK'?

This authoritarianism is terrifying. What happened to free speech?

Hiding in an owl onesie it seems

BornFreeButinChains · 09/01/2025 22:37

Oh yes that's awful.
It's awful for any politician isn't it

Because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Apparently she now has two security guards at all times. She must absolutely hate that.

I don't think so but now I'm confused, I thought it was this pre hair-transplant one that he had tried to ban, previously?

Those of us who have lived experience of surviving grooming, CSA and rape as girls, know exactly who is tackling child sexual abuse in these northern towns and who isn't. Not all of us were traumatised to the point that we are rendered incapable. There are a cohort of us who were lucky enough to not be submerged by it. I was very lucky to have the unearned privilege of a decent level of cognition, some economic privilege and being able to access higher education and it taught me about my vulnerabilities and the social determinants of health & wellbeing and how the system creates gaps for exploitation for girls like I used to be.

I healed through my education, alongside support from NAPAC, Rape Crisis, NHS Psychiatrists, ISVA's, IAPT, the police and Victim Support. I have since worked with girls and boys who are survivors of CSA and CSE (in children's social care, research and child and adolescent mental health services). I am about to go into a national team. Elon Musk knows nothing about the worker bees on the frontline, the evidence gathering in research, the policy action, the third sector input, the people wiping the tears and snot and telling survivors it's not their fault, the hand holding to ensure you don't drown, the police intelligence being gathered, the prevention that's happening right now. It's not perfect, it isn't completely resolved but we are a lot further forward than in 1996 when it started happening to me. Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson, Nigel Farage don't advocate for prevention, they look back and their red faced, spittle shouting outrage isn't changing anything - I know who is tackling and preventing CSA today, and tomorrow and next year. They don't need to write it on social media, they are just getting on with doing it.

Edited

I just wanted to say thank you for all you do and what an incredible woman that you are. How can the public best help victims? I most certainly will be making a donation to rape crisis.

I’m also baffled to how anyone could not have known. Nick Griffin was talking about it as early as 2004. (He’s a deplorable human but at least he brought attention) Sammy Woodhouse has been campaigning for years, three girls was on tv in 2017.

I think he should stay in his lane.
