To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

I'm not confused about anything. It's you who's confused.

Which countries are refusing to take back their own citizens?

Edited

I'm not confused at all.

Why do specific countries matter. She said any country.

Part of the issue is that some people are renouncing their duel citizenship and only keeping their British one. Someone may then be born overseas but have no legal connection to their country of birth.

Like I say, it's a very complicated and difficult issue. The government should be working on long term viable solutions. What has been suggested is not one

They have lost all their appeals and are both under a deportation order. They have also both been stripped of their British citizenship. However, Pakistan are refusing to accept them. This is a perennial problem with deportations - a lot of countries simply don't want their criminals back.

Well, I am sure Pakistan like its aid payments so maybe stop those.

He's a private individual (not an elected politician or royal family member), who is under no obligation to keep his opinions to himself. He has business interests in the UK, so that gives him yet another reason to offer his opinion just as rich Brit businesspeople do.
There is no law against having an opinion and shouting it out, especially if you have a platform to do so. Ignore what you don't like.
I'm happy for someone to speak up in support of the victims of illegal immigrant rapists - Why shouldn't they be deported?

Btw, Why did Harry open his gob to support Hillary Clinton vs Trump? Why did Labour reps go to the US to campaign for the Labour Party?

Well said.

You are confusing two issues.

As a country we need immigrants, the economy and nhs would not survive without them.

We also need to do something about the foreign born rapists at the end of their sentences. Threatening to refuse all immigration from countries that won't accept them back would not work. It would be seen as a bluff as economically it's untenable.

It's a very shit and complex situation, and simplistic solutions need to be challenged.

We should be working on solutions that will actually work. Maybe implementing the recommendations of the child abuse inquiry. Increasing the numbers of police, longer sentences, more education in schools so children can speak up easier etc

And btw, I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and any suggestion that I'm a rape apologist, or on their side can fuck right off

Actually the restriction of visas is something I have seen proposed by a couple of broadsheets as leverage that would work. They have abused the privilege of coming to this country and should fuck off, irrespective of how many years they might have been here.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 07/01/2025 10:45

Twitter, like every other social platform, is filled with sexually dodgy men, so don't be daft Zilla1 . What does Musk think should be done about that?

Starmer wanted the UK government to take action against the USA after George Floyd but gets upset when it comes back at him. He is the biggest hypocrite going.

Oh hello.

SerafinasGoose · 07/01/2025 10:43

Sanctions against the US? Are you having a laugh? Who do you think is likely to come off worse - a global superpower or a tiny island in the North Atlantic, no longer even affiliated with the EU?

He can smart off about UK politics as much as he wants: he has no power and no influence here. On this particular point, as it happens, I agree with him.

And again, what important work needs doing in this country that we need to accept rapists in to do it???

It's a simple question.

Astonishingly limited PR handling by the UK government, putting aside the rights and wrongs of the substantive issue. Perhaps rather than complain, the UK should manage Musk to achieve their goals.

Previously Twitter have refused to participate in our work. We welcome Mr Musk's increased focus on the issue of child protection and look forward to working with him and X/Twitter on our priority to make Social Media safer for children and to work with the UK criminal justice system to identify and prosecute abusers and criminals...

Previously Twitter have refused to participate in our work.

I presume they mean Twitter under Jack Dorsey, when being a MAP and expressing your child age range preference was de rigueur.

Well well well...the head of the sex abuse inquiry, Alexis Jay, has said that Musk's comments have jolted the government into action.

O rly! 🦉🦉

Who could possibly have known??

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Correct. We should not be accepting anyone from countries where their rapists aren't accepted back. It definitely would be a solution.

Rapists, and murderers.

Your solution is just let them carry on raping women. Top work random bloke.

Edited

That's not my solution at all. Don't put words into my mouth.

We need immigration so much that threatening to not take immigrants in would just be seen as a bluff. There's no way we could ever do that.

Your solution is unworkable.

If countries don't want their criminals back, then all citizen immigration from that country ceases until a deal to take them back is made and signed

A bill to introduce such a "deal" was reportedly introduced in 2021, but I'm having trouble finding out what happened to it ... squashed by those who can't bear any firm action to be taken perhaps?

I'm also keen to know why so many of our MP's voted against the deportation. Can anyone explain please?

Setting aside all the other comments, this has been asked and not answered several times on this thread.

Could somebody please point to the ACTUAL VOTE on deporting foreign born rapists?

Because there has never been such a vote in the UK, but if there were to be a vote on not letting in foreign born rapists, both Trump and Musk would be banned.

hobbledyhoy · 07/01/2025 10:16

@FKAT he did, by stating that they were enacting the recommendations but Tories had not though they were using this as an opportunity to try and rewrite an untrue narrative and gain political capital by aligning themselves to those who seek to interfere in the UK's democracy.

He didn't mention Musk by name, to do so would hand him the power, he spoke about the wider issue of bad actors, sowing lies to divide nations and cause political discord, illustrated perfectly by the arguments in this thread.

Watch it again

FKAT · 07/01/2025 10:12

This is absolute nonsense. Starmer has a known track record of doing more to bring rapists to justice than any other DPP. We have had three inquiries whose recommendations were not put in place by the previous government despite having a very long time to do so. The Labour government is now rectifying that.

So why didn't Labour lead with that in their communications? Instead of making it about Musk?

MargoLivebetter · 07/01/2025 10:08

@RingoJuice and @yohohoCrimbo the defence lawyers are not morally bankrupt, they are there to provide defence for the defendant. That is their legal duty. I don't suppose they take any joy whatsoever in defending such dreadful people but our legal system ensures that we all have the right to defence and a fair trial.

gamerchick · 07/01/2025 10:06

She was saying that we shouldn't accept immigration from countries that won't accept their rapists back.

That's not going to work as a solution as we need immigrants. Our economy and nhs would collapse without them.

It's a simplistic idea that will not work. Obviously a solution needs to be found but that isn't it

We need workers, not rapists.
