To be annoyed that my DD teacher did this

DramaLama0 · 06/01/2025 21:54

Waiting to be dismissed at end of the day and it was raining heavy. Teacher had a very large umbrella. A few children were there including my DD. DD and some others moved and starting moving towards the umbrella to go under and all of a sudden teacher saw and did a turn so that the other children were under it but not my DD. It didn't matter too much as she was going to be dismissed soon anyway but not until she had seen me. I felt sad that she was the only one not under it and the teacher seemed to move with purpose so she couldn't be under it, but the other children left to be dismissed were?

It wasn’t your comment so how on earth are you certain that’s not what the pp meant?!

For what it’s worth, I interpreted the comment in the same way as @WashingDryingForEver.

Because I work in schools and that is how the child suffers when there are parents who do this. The poster said about SLT being informed which means that as a rule when there are intimidating parents they are sanctioned which then impacts on the child. You're as dramatic as the OP in assuming they meant harming the child.

Playing the - but they said it too card is what children do to deflect when challenged. Think logically about what the impact would be to the child if the parents are sanctioned by the school.

She did a 360 to avoid my DD going under it.

So she spun around and ended up in the exact same position?

Twittable · 07/01/2025 05:38

If you watched this happen OP, why weren’t you collecting your child? On rainy days, if you can see your child is ready, I’d think it was perfectly acceptable to say ‘excuse me Miss Holly, may I take Jessica?’ and she’d be thrilled to have one less to watch. Try not to make yourself ‘that’ parent, it’s not a good look and will embarrass your child as they get older.

whippy1981 · 07/01/2025 05:22

That wasn't what was meant.

The child misses out as the parent is then subject to things like sanctions so cannot be on the school site for assemblies or the nativity etc. They didn't mean the teachers then go off beating the child up because they are pissed off with the parent.

I will also say that when parents are rude to a teacher, it is always their child that pays the price.

Whilst I think that poster was ridiculous with her threatening attitude, I find your comment worrying that teachers take their dislike of a parent out on the child. I am glad my kids have left school. I work in the NHS and when a relative is rude, I wouldn’t dream of treating the patient badly. Not in a million years.

If you spoke to a teacher like that at our school, you would be spoken to by SLT. I will also say that when parents are rude to a teacher, it is always their child that pays the price.

For an infraction this large and serious. Nope not enough. Does anyone have the number for the prime minister?

Go to Musk! 😂

I'd just mention it to her on the quiet, I'd say I saw what happened you purposely moved away from her, and I don't care wether you have bonded with her or not but you do not treat her any differently from the other children, I will be watching closely to make sure this doesn't happen again and I may also pick her up early sometimes just to check things are going well.
But one thing you should know my child will not be made to feel uncomfortable and will not be treated any differently to any other child, you will remain professional at all times.
Before anyone starts mentioning about the message seeming a little threatening, I work in a school, sometimes people have their favourites and make it clear, there's no way I'd put up with it, 100% it happens I see it all the time

Sometimes I utterly despair. Unless this ludicrously OTT rant is a joke. FFS...trust your child's teachers or f*king well homeschool them. They do not have the time not the energy for this shit. I bled for my students for 47 years, and encountered just a handful of entitled parents like you. Their precious little snowflakes who were never wrong, were deliberately ignored or slighted, achieved a mark below their perceived competence, would never lie etc. No wonder the education system in the UK is a shitshow. Excellent teachers just refuse to tolerate such crap.

I can dismiss children from the door without going outside. If I did have to I wouldn't want any of them under the brolly. It is mine! They should have their own or at least be suitably dressed.

LBFseBrom · 07/01/2025 03:11

cansu · 06/01/2025 22:01

I am sure it was not personal. Maybe she thought there were too many kids and she turned to avoid more joking. If there was a large group then they might physically be too close. Think to yourself is it likely that the teacher decided to spiteful ensure your child was not dry! Unlikely.

I agree.

WashingDryingForEver · 06/01/2025 22:43

If she did a 360, she would have been where she started.

I have a mental image of a 5 year old teacher spinning around on the spot. I need to go to sleep

IWantToGetOffHelp · 07/01/2025 01:59

And this is why I no longer teach. Ridiculous!

GreenTeaLikesMe · 07/01/2025 01:56

She probably did this for reasons that are not obvious to you, such as having to suddenly look and see what another child was doing. Don't you think that is a lot more likely than "She has an evil vendetta against my child and is deliberately trying to get her wet"?

I feel sorry for teachers.

Flittingaboutagain · 07/01/2025 01:53

At face value very unkind yes. I would assume the teacher hates her job and takes it out on children as many miserable or stressed adults do.

However I would hope it's more likely you are missing some context and this was an innocent oversight.

Choccyscofffy · 07/01/2025 01:50

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 07/01/2025 01:43

OMG. Are you hearing yourself? She is trying to release 30 kids to their parents and apparently is supposed to have the worlds biggest umbrella to cover 30 children and for some unknown reason she turned suddenly and the worlds biggest umbrella didn’t cover your child.

You have no idea why she turned suddenly and- a kid said something, something caught her attention, she heard a noise, someone tapped her from behind (children are known to do this).

You are sad this happened. I honestly can’t grasp what even possessed you to write this on Mumsnet.

Just to ruin it for you so you can mentally prepare yourself from having a breakdown. Your child may not get chosen for the lead in the school play. Your child may not get chosen for a school team. Another kid may have suggested your child wasn’t perfect and you may get a call home. Another kid may have accidentally taken your kids jumper and it may never return. Your kid may not be well liked or have loads of friends when they get older - in fact almost certainly they won’t be invited to a party which will seem catastrophic.

This is probably the most insane post I have ever read.

Where did you get 30 kids from? OP said it was just a few.

Ok, its just she looked and saw her coming and all of a sudden turned, she didn't even offer her to under with the others when there was room, just let her stand and be the only one not under

I think this message would have more impact if you could get Liam Neeson to deliver it. Especially if you can get him to throw in something about having a very particular set of skills...

pollyglot · 07/01/2025 00:29

Are you serious? Truly? Any more sins can be pinned on lazy/incompetent/uncaring/inconsiderate teachers???Have you been a teacher?

I wish. But in general schools have social media policies that preclude staff doing that.

They (you?) deserve a consequence-free right to moan about people like the OP and others like her, IMO.
