To be annoyed that my DD teacher did this

DramaLama0 · 06/01/2025 21:54

Waiting to be dismissed at end of the day and it was raining heavy. Teacher had a very large umbrella. A few children were there including my DD. DD and some others moved and starting moving towards the umbrella to go under and all of a sudden teacher saw and did a turn so that the other children were under it but not my DD. It didn't matter too much as she was going to be dismissed soon anyway but not until she had seen me. I felt sad that she was the only one not under it and the teacher seemed to move with purpose so she couldn't be under it, but the other children left to be dismissed were?

As teachers, when we talk about "that parent" this is it.

@MoreIcedLattePlease
Totally!
Although it’s fast becoming more a case of ‘those parents’

Op's concerned a teacher is bullying her child and everyone's just banging on about 360 degrees. They just can't help themselves can they..ooh oooh I spot something clever to comment on to make OP feel small. Is that what it is?? How about you do a 180 or 360 or whatever and look in the mirror.

Not holding an umbrella over someone is bullying?

Fuck! My 5' nothing arse has been unable to share an umbrella with pretty much anyone. Ever. I will immediately raise my arms high above my head and invite all of sundry to share in my umbrella to repent my sins of umbrellas past.

(Maybe people are more focused on the 360° thing because the OPs gripe is just so utterly incomprehensible it's ludicrous!)

Never mind the sticker thread - we seem to have resurrected "cancel the cheque," what with all the comments about 360 degree turns.

coxesorangepippin · 08/01/2025 20:13

This is as bad as the replacement sticker thread

Oh god don’t remind me. That sticker thread is making me angry all over just thinking about it. I think people are becoming more insane recently for some unknown reason.

Lovemeapickledgherkin · 08/01/2025 20:10

Surely this means she was back where she started? ……
I’ll see myself out

Exactly!

Even if it was a 180 degree turn, it wouldn’t affect her daughters coverage considering that an umbrella is circular shaped and symmetrical.

coxesorangepippin · 08/01/2025 20:13

Yip.

Get back in!

She did a 360 to avoid my DD going under it.

This is utterly ludicrous. You’ve gone for the worst possible assumption based on absolutely nothing instead of considering several of the considerably more likely and logical scenarios.

— teacher genuinely didn’t realise. Perhaps was distracted by a sound, her name being called, an event, a touch which made her turn.

— teacher was strategically trying to keep as many children dry as possible so turned or moved her body to give coverage to the most amount of children. Your child wasn’t in that lucky position with the majority so was left uncovered for literally a few seconds.

— teacher was alternating between children to give some of the chance to be out of the rain for a few seconds. Taking turns. She was holding it over your daughter and then may have switched to a group of children to give them coverage. The fact that she was holding it over your daughter originally and not over some others and then switched to holding it over some others and not your daughter implies this.

— Perhaps she saw you come to collect your daughter so knew within a few seconds your daughter would be taken home so instead held it over some children who might be standing in the rain longer whilst waiting for parents she hadn’t seen yet.

— teacher might have been responding to another child saying something like “Miss can I have some umbrella!”

I dont understand why you have immediately gone for the least likely scenario based on no prior pattern of behaviour whatsoever and dismissed the above? The fact that she was originally holding the umbrella over your daughter surely means she is nice to/likes your daughter. If she genuinely despised her, and wasn’t professional about hiding it then surely she wouldn’t have given your daughter any coverage at all?!

Bizzare

I think you have politely what my DS would call main character syndrome where you saw it and immediately made it about your DD and a deliberate act rather than the 90% far more realistic option it was a genuine oversight

This. ‘Main character syndrome’ - fantastic.

Coldautumnmornings · 08/01/2025 18:31

There is absolutely no way I would jump to the conclusion that she didn't on purpose. Have you any idea the amount of distractions that that teacher will have going on at pick up time, it's ridiculous to think she did it on purpose. Poor teacher.

Moll2020 · 08/01/2025 18:21

Are you really sure? The end of the day in school, watching all the children, watching who collects them etc is very busy and stressful.

whippy1981 · 07/01/2025 18:03

But apparently you do! Odd that? It wasn't your comment but you seem to have decided what it was about.

I know exactly what it was about as it is what happens daily in my job! You just assumed you know and are now saying those in the job do not know but you do. Laughable!

I was a teacher for many years, actually. You assumed I have no experience of being a teacher. Assumptions aren’t helpful, are they?

I didn’t assume my understanding of the comment was correct, unlike you. None of us know what she meant and she hasn't been back to clarify. You’re making things up and are making yourself look rather silly.

@DramaLama0 Feeling sorry for your daughter and yourself after reading about the teacher's spiteful behaviour 💗
I hope your daughter didn't notice what actually happened and that it seems she was picked on by the teacher.
No matter how many people here say that a teacher is not capable of such horrid behaviour - yes they are!

I'm really interested to know how many of the people who have commented here are teachers/work in a school or are related to/are friends with teachers!
It's so very strange that the commenters just can't seem to accept that a teacher could have a nasty, spiteful mind and choose to bully a child or several children.

Anyhow, like I said earlier, I hope your daughter didn't realise how horridly the teacher behaved towards her and that she's not affected by it. Best wishes to you both 💗💗

Get a fucking grip

AbbyBradley · 07/01/2025 18:08

Indeed!
Take care x

AbbyBradley · 07/01/2025 18:05

Saying all teachers are evil is quite an extreme thing to believe and say but you've obviously got reasons to have those thoughts.
Perhaps you're a teacher or maybe used to be one so in that case, I'm sure you'll have seen plenty of things that cause you to have such extreme views.
That's so sad.

whippy1981 · 07/01/2025 18:03

SwingTheMonkey · 07/01/2025 06:48

Eh? Your second paragraph has lost me, I’m afraid. And I didn’t assume they meant harming the child - you’re the one who brought up ‘beating the child up’.

I think the op is being utterly ridiculous. I was simply pointing out you have absolutely no idea what the pp meant with her comment, as it wasn’t your comment!

But apparently you do! Odd that? It wasn't your comment but you seem to have decided what it was about.

Katy232425 · 06/01/2025 22:02

You are massively overthinking. Maybe she misstepped, moved closer to hear a child who was speaking to her, thought she heard someone calling her, just simply didn’t see your daughter or was distracted by trying to keep eyes on children and look out for parents etc etc. Maybe none of them were meant to be under it and she just couldn’t avoid all of them. Or there was no space. Or she felt crowded. Presumably your daughter was wearing a coat?!

Unless you’re going to drip feed that this is part of a long pattern of deliberate unkindness to your daughter I think you need to put it out of your mind as an absolutely trivial non issue.

Speaking as a reception teacher myself, THIS ^

There is absolutely no way on earth a sane adult deliberately sheltered some children, but not one other.
Honestly, you try dismissing 30 5yos to the correct adult on your own. Watching to make sure they get to the parent, and keeping an eye on the others who have yet to be collected. It's actually one of the hardest and most stressful parts of the day.

Mumofmarauders · 07/01/2025 15:20

Unless there is a load of backstory then I'm positive that you're overthinking it and it was inadvertent. It can be hard for the teacher to even see where everyone is in the rain, let alone work out how everyone will be affected by a movement. But I completely get why you'd feel that way, seeing your wee girl standing alone in the rain 😭 My instincts with my kids are highly strung (which is weird as I am very easy going about everything else) and I often have to talk myself down from things like this x

Yes that’s right. That awful teacher deliberately picking on that poor child. None of the innocent explanations on here are relevant because all teachers are evil and have nothing better to do than to be deliberately cruel to children. None of them can be trusted and parents need to beware.
On the other hand, all parents are amazing and have so much respect for teachers. They never misinterpret a teacher’s innocent actions. 🙄🙄
