Sorry name changed as I’m mortified.

I was having a clear out for the new year and gathered four bags of clothes and toys etc for charity shop.

Last night I started taking the bags to the shed and heard noise coming from next doors garden and I was worried that someone was in there that shouldn’t be so I stood on a patio chair to look over the fence. Neighbour was in the hot tub with a man I didn’t recognise (I thought she was single!). The bloke looked up and saw me and I didn’t know what to say so when neighbour looked up I asked her if she would take the bags to charity shop for me. I have no idea why I said that, even as the words were coming out I was mortified at what I was saying. She looked a bit confused but said she’d do it so I asked her if I should bring them around and she said “well, not now” and gestured towards the man. He started laughing and she then said “just leave them in your shed for now?”

im beyond embarrassed, I just can’t believe I said that to her not to mention the embarrassment of being seen peering over the bloody fence.

please tell me I’m over thinking it. I’ve felt sick all day just thinking about it.

Sorry shouldn't laugh but that is so funny!! Just tell her the truth and I'm sure she'll laugh too. You may get a hot tub invite!!

WidgetDigit2022 · 07/01/2025 19:28

This has made me chuckle!!

I would totally go round tomorrow and laugh about how silly you felt and how you really don’t expect her to take your things to the charity shop! It could be the start of a great friendship, to be fair, she sounds nice!

Thanks everyone, I do need to clear the air I know but I barely know her, which just makes the whole “will you do me a favour” thing even worse

this has made me laugh so much😂

I’m your neighbour hahahahah

don’t worry, I’ve been seeing hot tub man for about 3 months now 😂

this little pickle is nothing a cheeky bottle of wine and some chocolates wouldn’t solve 😁

I promise to never mention it again (after the wine and chocs, which we should eat and drink together and have a proper giggle about this over!)

Ahhhh, this is brilliant!!!

This actually made me laugh out loud. If I was the neighbour I would think this hilarious don’t worry it sounds like she has a sense of humour 😂

I would be mortified and embarrassed too, I’d play the scene over and over in my head 😖
Pop round and tell her the truth, you were a rabbit caught in the headlights and came out with the first sentence that came into your head to cover your embarrassment… a normal human reaction. In reality you were looking out for your neighbour because you thought someone was poking around in her garden. If you don’t explain your side of things it’ll haunt you, you did nothing wrong, you had your neighbours best interests and safety at heart, and you need to let her know this.

Sunnnybunny72 · 07/01/2025 19:02

The 'well, not now' gets me 😂😂

PonyPatter44 · 07/01/2025 18:57

I'm sorry, that is hilarious. I can understand how mortified you must feel, but its like something out of a sit com. Take her a bottle of wine and apologise for your total bonkersness.

lol, as others have suggested, knock on the door, explain what happened and say you died a thousand deaths when you saw them, and apologise for being a nit and having the old verbal vomit

Reallyneedsaholiday · 07/01/2025 18:48

OP come back ….. we all need an update on this one 😂

TicklishMintDuck · 07/01/2025 18:43

Tell her the complete truth and offer a bottle of wine. It’s really made me smile after a tough day!

zingally · 07/01/2025 17:03

That's so funny!

Go round and talk to her. I'm sure she'll see the funny side!

Chickenpuppet · 07/01/2025 16:31

Oh my Goodness someone who has the same sort.of life experiences as me. I am going to laugh about for days. Please just tell her or write her a note.
This is excellent sit-com material.
You are very human and have made my day

ColinOfficeTrolley · 07/01/2025 15:40

Omg crying 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

JollyZebra · 07/01/2025 15:33

Just explain why you looked over the fence and why you spoke as you did. They probably had a good laugh afterwards at her bonkers neighbour, so you might as well join in and enjoy it!
We've all had red-faced, "wish the ground would swallow me up" moments. 😂

So funny, like something out a sitcom🤣🤣 As been said..go to neighbours door...tell her the story as you have on here...99% sure she'll laugh. If not, thens shes had a sense of humour bypass😀 In future if you here any noises from next door then maybe ignore🤣🤣🤣

Why am I imagining Mrs Bucket peering over the fence? 😂

Packetofcrispsplease · 07/01/2025 14:41

🤣 I think I’d just knock on the door and tell her you thought there was an intruder up to no good in her garden and that you don’t make a habit of standing on chairs looking into gardens 🤣
she is probably just finding it funny

Ceecee2422 · 07/01/2025 14:00

This is so funny 🤣🤣🤣 I agree with just tell her, she’ll probably think you’re slightly odd but worse things have happened in the world lol

Mommy2cy · 07/01/2025 14:00

You're definitely overthinking. This post does not require a fake name haha

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 07/01/2025 13:35

This is exactly the kind of awkward thing that I would say.

Stick a note through her door explaining with the offer of a cup of tea if she’s not too freaked out. It might be the start of a great friendship.

Lostcat · 07/01/2025 13:31

Hahahah sorry OP but I can’t stop laughing 😂😂😂

MyJoyousBiscuit · 07/01/2025 13:30

allmymonkeys · 06/01/2025 20:36

Laughing too hard to type.

"Just wondered if you'd mind taking my charity bags to the shop..."

Oh bless you. Thank you, thank you, I so needed this today.

Me too! You can almost hear the panic and confusion. I'd love this lady as my neighbour. A- Mazing.
