Especially if they're those annoying flashy ones. Just stop already.

Mine come down on 12th night, it's not that I can't be bothered. Hmm

Superhansrantowindsor · 05/01/2025 09:49

Perhaps you need thicker curtains? I love all the twinkly lights. They brighten up a miserable time of year.

Because I'm counting down the days until they're off! I put up with them over Christmas as I'm not a complete scrooge.

But it’s Christmas right now

mitogoshigg · 05/01/2025 09:49

I have outside ones up all year, they don't flash and I don't leave on all night but they were on until 1.20am when I got home from the pub.

Have you asked your neighbour to turn them off overnight?

One does not simply ask these neighbours to do anything. They are not those kind of neighbours.

In my view it's legitimate to do exactly what I want.
I put mine up later then most and love going into a grey cold January wrapped in my Christmas cocoon.

Keep your cocoon inside your own house?

How is it hurting you?
My lights, and tree, are still up and flashing away.
The kids love it.
It's Christmas time in our house until we are back to school and work Monday.

It is hurting me by creating an annoying flashing in our house that comes round the edge of the black out curtains during the night.

I keep mine up for the whole of Christmas but they don’t flash. My neighbours house is like a police car but I have curtains. Idk why you have started a thread saying they should come down before the end of Christmas when what you really mean is they shouldn’t be on all night or flash at any point. Why is in all night and flashing ok on dec 27th but not on Jan 3rd?

12th night. That’s when decorations come down.

Why the hec shouldn't lights still be on?

Not that I am a fan of the flashing ones but really there is no law that is being broken

There's nothing religious about flashing lights. You can get hot cross buns all year now. Ours come down New Years Day.

Yeah sorry mine stay up till twelfth night too, flashy bastards.

🤣🤣 love it!

sushibelt · 05/01/2025 09:24

Is it?

Do they have to be on ALL night?

Yes - up pretty late really, and the epiphany is the traditional date to take them down (or maybe the day after, can't remember). Have to keep the crib up until the wise men arrive!

They don't need to flash all night but that's a different issue and the time to deal with that was with a friendly word on 15 Dec.

Blarn · 05/01/2025 09:28

Tree was down yesterday but lights will stay up a lot longer. I'm debating on leaving the string of fairy lights up at the window too. Remember that miserable Covid winter and loads of people left lights up ages after Christmas, made everything slightly more cheerful.

14 Dec to 6 Jan is pretty much the default Christmas decoration period.

Get a grip?? There have been flashy lights over the road since about December 14th!

Ps agree they shouldn’t flash and they should switch off at by 11pm.

Summary: simple, warm-yellow fairy lights, with no flashing setting, turned on between 5-11pm can stay up through the winter.

I second your motion

If they’re tasteful warm, golden fairy lights on an otherwise dark house in the winter I’m all for keeping them up! My street looks so much prettier and welcoming at night.

I'd love it if that's what we had. I can't post a video of them or it would be outing. We have to put up with flashing coloured lights. And they're on ALL NIGHT.

I don't think the bible said that was a requirement.
