Good day to bury bad news - 20th jan 2025

Remember this little email
BBC News | UK POLITICS | Spin memo row duo quit

Guess what's happening on the 20th jan 2025 ?

Trump's Inauguration Day of course and given the fact all main stream media will be bleating on about it from the week before till the week after, how easy it would be for these events to be missed.

So keep it simple and ask yourself how all the events above that all occurred at different times all now start at the same time.

How convent for all these things to start on the same day a huge worldwide event. I think its government steered and definitely not unreasonable to think these events have been scheduled then to hide bad news

Who is Ricky Jones? The ex-Labour councillor who has appeared in court

Councillor Ricky Jones was suspended by Labour after his speech in Walthamstow during the recent riots

So you read the very first link from the BBC about spin doctors advising the government at the time it was a good day to bury bad news on the day of 911 terrorist attacks.

Of course they try control the media, any one who suggests other wise is feeble minded

Yes but they didn't do it very well
did they?! The fact that the decision to try and bury bad news that day, and the subsequent voicemails about it were all well publicised in the media shows that even if intent is there - the ability isn't! Always amazed that people think our governments are capable of these things - have they seen it in action?!

MN has been really fucking odd today.

Yep the swivel-eyed loons are out in force.

Please do come back at the ends of these trials OP and demonstrate how the MSM have covered up reporting of them with an inauguration which is due to take place before they actually end.

Have you ever worked in the criminal justice system? Or the media come to that?

AnotherNameChange1234567 · 03/01/2025 22:30

Two crown court trials need to be held before 6 months from charge date is up, due to custody time limits.

Manchester airport case, charges only just authorised by CPS, this will have been next available court date when charged at point of answering bail (usually around a month later). That’s their first appearance, unlikely to be their trial date if they opt to have one.

Councillor’s trial date was set by the court at the beginning of Sept. Doubt the judge consulted his American calendar before picking the next available date. He had also been remanded at the time, and so was again subject to custody time limits at point trial date was set.

No conspiracies here, just custody time limits and standard waiting times for lower level cases suitable for magistrates court.

HotelDuVine · 03/01/2025 22:28

Thankfully this AIBU is an easy one to answer objectively. We can reconvene say in mid-Feb and see if the OP has the guts to admit she is wrong, when all the trials will have been referenced in the relevant media!

Gazelda · 03/01/2025 22:26

Are you really suggesting that we'll all be so glued to the inauguration to notice the trial, verdict and sentence (if guilty) of all 4 of these cases?

Or that the government believes it's worth a punt?

Wow.

ThatShyRoseViper · 03/01/2025 22:23

Who cares about what happens on the first day of a trial? Unless there is a plea change it’s all preliminary guff. The key thing is usually the main witness(es), summing up and verdict and those will all take varying lengths of time given the variation in severity of the offences alleged, the fact one involves co-defendants and the potential for reporting restrictions being raised in one trial.

On the other hand, I do agree with you OP that MSM is too afraid to cover the big issues on 20 January. The world-first debut of my new tinfoil beekeeper-style mask. A basic tinfoil hat is passé now, so March 2020.

Didn't need to read it, I worked in national media.

I think your assessment of 'bad news' is way off here. They don't manipulate run-of-the-mill judicial proceedings to tie in with planned world events.

Since you're so interested, a government might be advised to release a damning report or an unpopular decision on the day a cataclysm grabs attention. A media-savvy government might even plan to release them on a big news day (the Conservatives were more likely to get this right than Labour). Your theory, though? Nah.

You could try watching for announcements of bad news from large corporations on Trump Day. Though I tend to agree it's only likely to work well within the USA.

bookworm14 · 03/01/2025 22:15

Do you think the government sets court dates?

catatonique · 03/01/2025 22:14

And you obviously haven’t met many judges if you think they’re going to put up with their court dates being messed around with by politicians. 😆

but then I think you probably don’t get out much

DarkAndTwisties · 03/01/2025 22:14

Oh I absolutely believe that governments time their announcements carefully, and part of what they consider will be what else is going on, whether they want to hide bad news while something big is going on, or wait and release good news once a big event has passed. If that was all you were suggesting I'd agree.

catatonique · 03/01/2025 22:13

titchy · 03/01/2025 21:52

why then all the court dates appeared in days after the riots.

Because they pled guilty. If any had pled innocent they'd be waiting months/years for a court date same as everyone else.

This a lot of people don’t realise that you are either arrested and appear in court or your summonsed to appear in court and if you plead guilty and the people can sentence it straight away they do.

If, however they need reports or some further work to go into the sentencing, then it waits sometimes for a few weeks sometimes for a lot longer

If the person says they’re not guilty, then it’s sent off for a trial.

DarkAndTwisties · 03/01/2025 22:11

how easy it would be for these events to be missed

I think the Southport trial in particular will be very very well covered. I don't think it will be missed at all.

catatonique · 03/01/2025 22:11

You obviously have no idea how difficult it is to schedule court hearings trials and sittings

It's THEM, isn't it, using their Secret Control of The Media to transmit subliminal messages and Hide The Truth. Bastards. Make sure your mind stays free & clear of thought control! Don't be a 🐑 !

Its clever, isn't it.

Though I do wonder why court dates for one of those events only seemed to be sped up, after a private prosecution was launched.

Say what now?

TerrysCIockworkOrange · 03/01/2025 22:06

Nurse! She’s out again

I do love the irony though of OP saying “No one will report on this” and links to media reports 😂

I think being a Monday changes things as lots of trial start on a Monday
23/29th July within a 7 day time frame

and the end of these won’t be inauguration day

that said the time it takes for these things to appear in the courts means people move on

You do realise hilary term starts on 13th Jan this year?

I agree it is much harder but doesn't stop it happening.

Not all things can be shared on social media hence we probably wont hear about it till the end

There won’t be much of a fanfare about it until the end because of how court reporting and restrictions work.

But if you care OP go along to the court case. Courts are public spaces and you’re more than welcome to sit in
