To think "The Traitors" is the biggest load of guff on TV?

It's stupid. There's no game at the heart of it. It's like Deal Or No Deal for prime time.

@ForZanyAquaViewer maybe the family are only watching it because the OP is Grin

🤣🤣🤣

I think it’s great fun. I don’t care who wins or about the tasks, it’s just very entertaining to watch the personalities interact and the groupthink. I LOVE the round table. I used to feel the same way about the Apprentice - zero interest in the tasks, loved the boardroom. It’s fascinating how people present themselves and the manner in which they fight their corner.

I think Traitors is interesting if you find people - and how they function in groups - interesting.

CandyCane457 · 02/01/2025 23:24

I like that I can watch it simultaneously with my uni kids, and we can whatsapp back and forth and say 'omg' and 'what the hell did they do that for' and 'god they're all so stupid' and 'why won't anyone LISTEN to Jaz?'

@chollysawcutt i agree so much with this! I’m in a couple of different Traitor WhatsApp groups with different friends, and I love love love all the texting and chat about it. And seriously… WHY DID NO ONE LISTEN TO JAZ?!?!

Haven’t you asked?

Sure. But they haven't given very good answers so I thought I'd ask here.

I like Claudia Winkleman, btw. She's smarter than this guff.

I watched for the first time after all the hype and was underwhelmed!

Fuck knows.

Haven’t you asked?

chollysawcutt · 02/01/2025 23:18

It's all built in the edit.

See, that's why I like it. I admire it for its storytelling.

I like the way the editors/producers/creators can craft a compelling narrative with whatever guff they have been handed.

I am interested in their choices and how they take the audience along for the ride.

(If you want to chat shit about it, those are my starters for 10)

How does it become strategic? The only strategy is "don't behave like how you think a a traitor might behave which, if you are sensible, if how you would behave anyway."

Well no that's not true because when you're nearing the end the traitors have to (well they don't have to) turn on each other to get all the money for themselves. So doing that in a way that doesn't throw backfire or cast suspicion on themselves is a strategy.

OK, but that's after 11/12 episodes!

I've never watched it so I watched an episode tonight to see what all the fuss is about! I thought it was rubbish, people crying and saying how hard it is - haven't they only been in there a couple of days?? I found it really boring to be honest and the contestants were all annoying 🙄

If you've not watched it before I'd go back to series 1. There's less of the histrionics, if I'm remembering correctly!

It's a TV phenomenon. I am seeking to understand why. Your own lack of perception about me tells me that there is not some layer of psychological insight that I might be missing.

😮

The lady’s hair unsettles me 🥷

DDivaStar · 02/01/2025 23:04

Its based on peoples thoughts, emotions and decisions. That makes it interesting regardless of the demographic in there.

TV shows that are utter shite:
I'm A Celebrity GMOOH
Loose Women
Mrs Brown's Boys
Married at First Sight
Real Housewives of......anywhere
Coronation St
Emmerdale
Any sports programme
Anything with Vernon Kay or Tess Daley in it
Anything with Greg Davies, Rosie Jones, Noel Fielding, Jenny Eclair, Jimmy Carr, Lee Hurst, David Walliams in it
Anything with talentless, past-it celebs or people who are only Z list celebs because they appear in 'celeb type' shows'
Anything with Katie Price, Kerry Katona or a footballer's wife/girlfriend in it.

What type of things do you like for light entertainment?

I'd agree with your list.

I DO like to watch Race Across the World with my 2 young adult children. I like to watch the relationships and the interaction between the pairs ,and how they respond to setbacks etc, or develop as people. I'm fully aware a lot of that is set up eg the jobs on the way.

Sasskitty · 02/01/2025 22:31

I like it.

Particularly enjoyed watching the new first section on the train - where 3 people had to get off but what 3 people. Fascinating. The carriage where one guy mentioned he might think about it. Resulting in the rest of the pack immediately smelling blood.. well… if you think you should go… Human nature / pack mentality / survival in action.

That was funny. His sweet naive delusion that once he suggested doing it other people would jump in too. Bless him.

Stopsnowing · 02/01/2025 23:01

OP is being contrary but she has a point- the game doesn’t make sense - it is loaded in favour of the traitors and I read somewhere that random guee were as likely if not more likely to be correct than the faithfuls. That said the first series of the Australia series was actually quite strategic and in another series someone actually laid a trap for a traitor and caught them out. However- people get banished for being different or too smart and I agree the challenges are dull.

DarkAndTwisties · 02/01/2025 23:00

I once made this sort of snap judgement of her and then I heard her interviewed on the radio and realised how wrong I was to judge her or anyone in this way. She actually came across as very thoughtful, humble and insightful person. She gave a reason too for her fringe etc, though I can’t now remember what it was.

I agree. I love Claudia. I find her a bit annoying on strictly because she gets a bit manic. But she's more toned down for the traitors and I think is perfect for it. Not playing it as a joke, but also enough of a twinkle (or something) that shows she's not taking it too seriously.

On a separate note, I agree with a PP about the contestants being more Instagram people. Not all of them, but more than series 1 & 2 definitely. They don't need to pick these people and it's annoying that they do. Ultimately, it ends up making worse tv, not better.

I agree with OP about there being no point getting rid of a traitor early on because they just get replaced so I'd agree it doesn't stand up to much scrutiny. But I don't think that really matters. I quite enjoy watching some annoying over confident man say "yep, her, 100% a traitor. There was no reason for her to talk to me just then. She's a traitor" and be wrong like happened yesterday. It's a level of confidence in one's own baseless judgement that I can only aspire to.

lolly792 · 02/01/2025 23:00

Here's an idea Master Baeth,
ask your family why they watch it. And ask yourself why you feel obliged to watch with them

thescandalwascontained · 02/01/2025 22:59

YANBU ... but it's strangely very watchable. We particularly love them sat around giving all kinds of absolutely ridiculous 'reasons' why someone is/isn't a traitor when there are no reasons at all! It's hilarious.

Endofyear · 02/01/2025 22:53

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 22:50

The faithfuls never know who to trust. You can't trust anyone. They're all playing a game.

But that’s the fun bit because they do! They are thrown together 24/7 away from home. We are pack animals at heart and they can’t help trusting people who they have become friends with.

We all sit at home shouting at the screen that “it’s just a game!” Whilst people are crying over their “friend” who they have only known for 5 minutes deceiving them.

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 22:52

vitahelp · 02/01/2025 22:48

But OP must know ‘why’ you enjoy it. In detail.

I'd like to know. You are free to answer or not. Answering "but I like it" doesn't add much. Millions of people like it. We all know that.

Fillyfrog · 02/01/2025 22:50

I've watched it for the first time tonight as everyone goes on about it. Not sure I can stand all the dramatic ness about it all, the cloaks, the owl 😅 will give it one more turn although I'm still not sure how it works properly. What if they choose a traitor and get it right? They won't find out til the end? Do they pick new traitors? Or is it only those original 3?

Those poor people who chose to get off I hope they come back in some way 🙈
