Friends awful baby name

ThisIcyHare · 01/01/2025 16:26

My best friend is due to have a baby soon, they are having a girl and she has been talking baby names with me, which feels super special. She has got a few very lovely traditional girly names, and a couple of more unusual choices, but not ‘offensive’. They are names I would expect from her. However, she has one absolutely terrible name, that actually just feels very cruel. It would be bad even by American standards and ‘tragedeigh’ names. It’s not that I wouldn’t choose it, it’s just crazy stupid and the child will be ridiculed by peers and adults. Some of her choices are genuinely wonderful, but I’m so worried she will madly choose this one awful name, I can’t say anything can I?!

OP Please "suggest" a name under a different username and then like wink 😉

Ceecee2422 · 02/01/2025 10:24

My favourite in the whole thread was definitely Kumquat 🤣🤣🤣

Amity

That reminds me of the horror film. Although this thread is turning into a nightmare 🤦🏻‍♀️😂.

OP give us a clue, I feel like Una Stubbs. Has anyone said the name?

AI suggested Justice.

Janet Jackson played a character named Justice in Poetic Justice. Tupac played Lucky.

One of my favorites.

Is the name responsibility

I quite like this name!

I don't like the full name, but my aunties first horse was called Caris (sounded like Cerys, but with an A sound instead of an E sound) and that works for Charisma.
I think a lot of the problem with the virtue names is that a lot of them don't shorten well into day to day names. some do, lots don't. at our stableyard, there was a Connie (Constance) for example. and Pru for Prudence, and so on. but a lot of them, you just wonder how they're going to be named by people around them day to day.

Rumpelstiltskin is a lovely name 👌

doesn't it mean "wrinkled foreskin"?

CrowleyKitten · 02/01/2025 00:56

Maurora · 01/01/2025 20:32

Alice?

it's quite an ordinary name, but quite a pretty one. I had a rat called Alice. it really suited her. nosiest rattie ever.

He used to be on Blue Peter a lot. I think they rolled him out when they had nothing much on the show or they'd bath Petra the Alsatian dog!!!

I didn't realise he was on Blue Peter a lot :). I think everyone from my generation knew him. Seems an amazing person.

Copperoliverbear · 02/01/2025 00:06

Well if you tell us, she might see the post read the replies and realise how awful the name is, job done

BBQPete · 02/01/2025 00:06

I can't believe people are still trying to get the OP to reveal the name.
Clearly it would be so outing, and really upsetting if the Mother 2B ever saw this (and if the name is unique, they very likely would).

The question is about the principle of whether the OP should say something. The actual proposed name doesn't matter.

I quite like this name!

Isn't it a model of car? The Mitsubishi Carisma?

Still, better than calling her Qashqai or Caravelle, I suppose!

FartfulCodger · 01/01/2025 23:57

I’m reminded of Reality Winner, who leaked some confidential intelligence reports about something. I forget the details because her name is such a distraction.

marmia1234 · 01/01/2025 23:55

What's the first letter? @ThisIcyHare

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/01/2025 23:53

Honesty?
Sincerity?

If she's west African these kind of names are ok but if not they sound like a stripper

TeenLifeMum · 01/01/2025 17:06

I knew a girl called Carisma (charisma spelled incorrectly and that poor girl did not have any charisma at all). But her peers never treated her badly, just called her her name.

I quite like this name!

BBQPete · 01/01/2025 23:48

My best friend is due to have a baby soon, they are having a girl and she has been talking baby names with me, which feels super special.

and

I can’t say anything can I?! together, makes no sense to me.

If you are super close best friends, and this is something she has brought up to discuss with you, then of course you can say something. That's the point in discussing things with someone you are close to and presumably someone whose opinion she trusts.

Thepollonator · 01/01/2025 23:44

Is it Honesty?

FizzyBisto · 01/01/2025 23:42

I wonder how it is that some positive virtue names have become very popular and are well-known and accepted as normal - such as Felicity, Verity, Grace, Honor and Constance; whereas others that are equally admirable and desirable - such as Benevolence, Temperance, Continence, Levelheadedness and Warmofheart-Firmofstool - seem somehow weird?

KarlaKK · 01/01/2025 17:09

Yes, Precious Mackenzie. We're showing our age here :) I remember him from the 70s but forgot he was a man. For some reason I associate it with being a woman's name.

He used to be on Blue Peter a lot. I think they rolled him out when they had nothing much on the show or they'd bath Petra the Alsatian dog!!!
