Pregnant women contribute same £ to hen do

Advice appreciated!
I'm planning a hen do in February and I have two pregnant women joining. I'm working out the budget and a substantial amount of the supermarket order is going to be booze 🍸
I've been thinking I should try and work out a way for the pregnant ladies not to pay as much as they won't be drinking.
What do you think? Would you expect to pay less or the same as everyone else if you were pregnant

How come you are charging people for a hen do? If you are having it at home do you not cover it? Seems odd, it's just a party, you wouldn't charge your mates for dinner. Just ask them all to bring a bottle and they can chip in fur a pizza or whatever.

It's not at my home. We are staying away in an Airbnb.

A kitty for the night out seems bizarre unless you are all drinking the same drinks. If you are stopping in a house for a weekend I understand the food order bill and drinks. Not for the non drinkers though they should be food only. Unless this is what everyone wants I dont understand why people arn't just told to bring their own drinks. I hate things like this its just over management by the organiser. I wouldnt want to be responsible for going back to the bar every 2 mins somone wants a drink either. If you want to do group shots or bubbly as 1st drink maybe just have a very small kitty for that.

A kitty is the preferred option from the group as it stops complicated rounds. From everyone's feedback they would find it weird just getting their own drinks without offering to get someone else's etc.

I’ve never paid a service charge for drinks.

Split the supermarket bill into food and soft drinks and alcohol and exclude anyone not drinking from the alcohol bit. I wouldn’t expect to be subsidised by people not drinking alcohol.

Ever occurred to you that you might be being a bit of a CF by getting all the drinkers to subsidise your soft drinks? Once you add in service charge, a Diet Coke could easily be up to a fiver depending where you go.

Surely though you would add a service charge on all the drinks?

I mean yes if the drinkers were paying
A+SC = T
I should pay
SD+SC = T
Not just SD

But A+SC is still going to equal more than SD+SC if SC is the same in both and A is more than SD?

A = Alcohol
SD = Soft drink
SC = Service charge
T= total

If there's a supermarket order then am I right in thinking it'll be a private thing, as in not out out?
If you're out out and the pregnant ladies will be drinking mocktails then split it evenly but if it's at someone's home or something then just separate the drinks split from the food split.
Basically, it depends what the pregnant women will be drinking!

devilspawn · 31/12/2024 12:09

This would drive me insane, just tell everyone to bring their own.

From this thread it's obvious that other people are likely to want to join the non-drinking crew even if not pregnant, and even if you ask everyone they're going to forget/change their mind/expect you to know what they wanted. And even after all that, you somehow have to get everyone's preferred alcohol. Which is fine when it's red wine or something, not so much when it's the one person who wants a niche flavoured cider and claims all the bottles as theirs and falls out with someone else who wants one but didn't think to ask.

And rely on it actually being delivered. Far too much hassle.

Ohshutupsimonyoutwat · 31/12/2024 12:09

I don't drink alcohol at all, why should I pay for somebody else to??

I thinks shes talking about the supermarket shop, not rounds in bars.

Agree with others you need a separate bill for alcohol and food shopping. Anyone who wants to complain is a CF to be honest.

Penguinmouse · 31/12/2024 11:46

Yes, split alcohol amongst drinkers and food amongst everyone. When I’ve been on weekends away with friends who are non-drinkers, we’ve always done it this way and works fine.

Doggymummar · 31/12/2024 11:45

Rainbowdottie · 31/12/2024 11:45

I don't think it's fair to make people pay for something they clearly aren't going to consume. If I were pregnant, had to pay and had to watch all my friends get drunk, I'd rather not go.
I would just be upfront about it and say this is the plan. I can't see why anyone would have a problem with it.

JustOneDD · 31/12/2024 11:45

Definitely split food between all and alcohol just between those drinking.

AhBiscuits · 31/12/2024 11:44

Calculate the booze separately and divide it between the drinkers.

Jaxhog · 31/12/2024 11:43

wantnoscrubs · 31/12/2024 11:07

Yes this is my plan! I'm wondering if this is typical though?
I don't know why I'm just paranoid that the other hens might be put out if they find out they are paying more compared to someone else? Even though I think that's fair?

But why should they expect non-drinkers to subsidise them?

waterrat · 31/12/2024 11:38

this is a wierd question - why should non drinkers pay for booze?

BarbaraHoward · 31/12/2024 11:38

Is the bride paying? If the bride is being covered/subsidised don't forget to include the pregnant ones in that.

Commonsense22 · 31/12/2024 11:37

Definitely! I would feel really taken advantage of if I found out I'd paid for everyone else to get drunk.

Like someone said - divide the food and soft drinks then separately divide the alcohol.
Just place two distinct orders to make it easier!

Cornflakes123 · 31/12/2024 11:36

I’m pregnant and I was just out for a meal out for an occasion the other night. We split the bill and I couldn’t help but be irritated at the amount I spent on other peoples alcohol. People were ordering 50 euro bottles of wine and I ended up spending 40 on alcohol that I drank none of. I sucked it up because it was a special occasion and I didn’t want to make a big deal but I will say it was very annoying. I wouldn’t expect people who aren’t drinking to foot the alcohol bill, it’s not really fair.

Why would anyone be put out that non drinkers aren’t subsidising their booze?

GuineaPigWig · 31/12/2024 11:32

stichguru · 31/12/2024 11:13

I don't drink for medical reasons even while not pregnant and no I don't want to be contributing to booze I'm not drinking. The others being booze hounds makes this more important as the booze bill will be higher and so everyone's share would be higher. It's really easy to do though - you just lump soft drinks in with the food and keep the booze bill separate, then you do three calculations

a) food + soft drinks divided by the number of attendees
b) booze divided by the number of drinkers

The drinkers total is a+b
The non drinkers total is a

Easy! And if you tried to charge me for booze I would tell you I needed to pay less on the day or when I received my bill!

StormingNorman · 31/12/2024 11:31

I would…

Split accommodation, food and other non-alcohol costs between you all.

Then split the alcohol costs between the drinkers and add to the above costs.

Explain this to the pregnant women, and ask them to bring along any alcohol-free alternatives such as zero beers, nosecco etc. Not everyone is comfortable with these so they are best left to organise amongst themselves.

TeamMandrake · 31/12/2024 11:30

If they were not pregnant, then you would need to buy more booze, so the cost would be exactly the same surely. So no-one is paying more because they are not drinking.

Huskytrot · 31/12/2024 11:29

wantnoscrubs · 31/12/2024 11:08

And what about kitty for the night out? Shall we just have one for the drinkers and the pregnant ladies have one between them?

Yes.

One for drinkers, one for non-drinkers. Easy.
