To feel that many men are totally unprepared and unsuited to domesticity?

So many instances shared on Mumsnet of grown men behaving like adolescents.

Spending hours gaming, incapable of regulating their emotions, violent outbursts, dick-led decisions, expecting Mummy 2.0 from their wives, utterly lacking in empathy and care during pregnancy, labour, newborn baby & toddler years, father fails ...

But why is this?

Was it always so, or do we just hear way more now from women who are no longer prepared to put up with it and ready to discuss and share advice?

Should there be some kind of exam, a screening process before they can proceed to the next level of In A Relationship?

So what are the ~75% of you who have sons doing about it?

The ‘lack of financial literacy’ is something I associate with a much older generation from the times when women couldn’t have bank accounts.
Now it’s more that women are financially vulnerable in a relationship. Generally because of the ties of childcare and associated inability to earn more.
Certainly in my circles women are on top of financial planning as much as, or more than, the men.

It's just a statistical fact. I never thought that it would be controversial. Mumsnet frequently tries to raise awareness of financial literacy in women.

You've got to understand that women need to have upfront conversations about money before having children. They then need to work out a financial plan for two people themselves, alongside their partners. If one parent wants to be sahm, then the other must pay into a pension for both, etc. It's planning and, unfortunately, bloody hard conversations.

I'm kind of sceptical of how hard this conversation is, to be honest. I'm fine for my wife to stay home. I receive tax benefits from my pension and pay into hers. She has her own assets, etc., but if God forbid we separated, she could cover the basics on her own.

You do realise there are men who actually live on their own and are perfectly capable fully independent grown adults, both straight and gay men

A lot of men change after marriage. They think I'm married now, uts her job a lot of them actually get married to have someone do the chores and cooking. Especially Nigerian men. In my culture if someone sees a man cooking, they start asking him to get married to get a wife to do it

Barney16 · 14/03/2025 06:32

My partner is just lazy but also of a generation that have outdated ideas about who does what. Example, last week I knew I would be late back from work so asked him to cook dinner. He said he was "happy to pick up the slack". Outrageous, as I pointed out.

Same

Workingmum13 · 13/03/2025 20:45

I said many women have poor finacial understanding google it. Not ever woman on earth.... youve misunderstood some of my insults which offends me feel free to have the last word.

PrettayGood · 13/03/2025 20:41

I get that useless men like this exist. What I don’t get is why women marry or partner them.

LastRoIo · 13/03/2025 20:41

I notice that a lot of women nowadays bang on about how men should call out sexism from their fellow men. But if a woman calls out sexism from other women she gets called a misogynist. 🤔

BlondiePortz · 13/03/2025 20:38

So would women have to take an exam or just men?

MixedBananas · 13/03/2025 20:33

I would say the same about women. The ones .arried into my family are utterly useless. Most work 1 or 2 days and they can't cope with any responsibility at all.

Yellowhammer09 · 13/03/2025 20:32

Men and women are very different, so I don't know why we're all striving for them to be the same.

The problem is that you don't know what the word "many" means. Are you illiterate? I thought you were implying I was.

Edited

How could I be a student and illiterate babe? You don't seem to understand what you're arguing about.

Someone said that women have no concept of finances. I believe you were attempting to prove they don't. You said something about divorced women not understanding money.

I asked you for evidence of women having no concept of finances despite billions managing their own finances and many working in finance.

Now you're asking me if I'm illiterate. You're not making sense babe.

username299 · 13/03/2025 20:25

That's no way to act babe. No need for aggression, you'll do yourself a mischief.

I'm simply asking you to back up what you're saying.

Workingmum13 · 13/03/2025 20:25

Well no because even when a woman is working ft she still picks up most household chores, so not a point. I think thats crazy but socially accepted or was.

LastRoIo · 13/03/2025 20:19

DarkForces · 30/12/2024 07:42

Except the fact that it's well researched that men as a class do far far less around the home than women as a class. Anecdotal evidence from a pp's son doesn't change that fact. The question is why and why women put up with it.

Well, in many cases it seems to be because the man is happy to work his arse off and provide an enviable quality of life while his wife works 2-3 days a week in a low stress job. The reverse is rarely seen.

That's the other side of the coin and most couples are somewhere in the middle.

Babe, I'm awaiting your evidence. You're making the claim that women have no concept of finances. Babe, some women work in finance, run large companies, manage accounts and babe, many women work for years and know what finances are.

Show me the data for ops assertion first........

People like you are the problem, finacial illtracy amongst women is so bad the govetnment is developing programs to help fix this.

People need to raise their kids to do and be better and women need to know what finacial planning is.
