Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

Dvds didn’t exist in the 70s, nor did video for that matter. Adult shops didn’t exist. It’s easy to see you weren’t there!

Porn has always existed. Ok, videos and dvds in the early 80s. But graphic magazines and shops with adult content well before then.

Why are we discussing when dvds first came out? The point is porn from decades ago featured unshaven men and women, porn now features shaven women and men. I don't see what the problem is, trends change?

Obviously women and men should choose for themselves but there isn't any evidence that they don't.

You can keep telling me it have a purpose and I will keep telling you in modern hygiene context it doesn't and until you give me some breakthrough information that I haven't came across we will have to disagree.

Post your links to the research that backs you up then please.

years in microbiology research tell me the opposite, so if you can back your point up I’ll be very interested.

Porn is more accessible <obviously> but top shelf mags, adult shops and very explicit dvds videos have been widely for years.

The point is unshaven looks were popular in the 70s, now trimmed looks are popular. It is fine, trends change.

As I said In the 70s people in the porn industry weren't trimmed or shaven and porn was just as popular.

Porn was virtually non existent in the 70s. Nothing except the very tame top shelf girlie mags was widely available. Anything approaching the kind of porn that’s accessed via the internet now involved a visit to the kind of specialist shop that no man wanted to be seen entering and only existed in big cities.

If you want a bush, have a bush, if you just want to trim, just trim. I've never had a man refuse me no matter what it looked like 😂

No - I haven’t found a compromise. I don’t remove the hair from my vulva because I don’t want to.

ohime · 31/12/2024 08:56

Oh, ugh, is this the norm now? So sorry, younger women! Had a full Brazilian once (after a partner asked and paid for it) and that was enough - my god, the itching. As for whether one should indulge a partner's preference for how one's body should look, I would say sure if it's something easy, like dressing up in something a partner likes - that's a nice thing to do for someone - but not if you're going to have to live with it for a while, and especially not if you're at all uncomfortable with it. In my experience, trying to do things to please your partner when you're secretly uncomfortable with them never works out well.

More or less equivalent questions might be: Would you get a haircut, or buy an expensive pair of glasses, that you don't really like, but your partner does? (i.e. something that you'll have to live with for a while) Would you wear revealing clothing in public for your partner if you felt uncomfortable in it and were getting creepy unwanted attention? Going a step further, would you get a boob job if your partner really wanted you to? (That's more extreme, but I think it's along the same lines.) And of course the real question is, would your partner do the same for you?

Because you don't have an answer?

I wasn’t commenting on people’s preference for keeping or not keeping pubic hair - it’s absolutely an individual choice. I was merely pointing out that pubic does serve an evolutionary purpose - there are trillion articles on the internet if you want to look, a link for one of those articles I posted previously.

Stop getting your knickers in a twist.

Its funny isnt it, that this thread was made to ask how women prefer to have their own body, and if they feel pressured by men, which most have said they dont...

But then any woman who prefers to shave on this post have been ridiculed by other WOMEN and told they resemble a child and must be dating paedophiles.

I dont think men are the problem here.

Totally agree. I can't believe some of what I'm reading in here. Many women choose of their own free will to,trim, shave or whatever. Why in earth this means they are being controlled or coerced or being with a pedophile I have no idea. Trends come and go, whether that be padded shoulders in jackets, fillers in lips or being bare below. Frankly being bare below has been a thing for a fairly long time, certainly 1990s and early 2000 and is definately extremely popular. The little market town I live in has a booming industry in beauticians, all of which offer waxing including full waxing and my beautician says it is a massive part of her workload. We have also just had a dedicated salon that is ONLY waxing! I really don't think these women are all being driven by porn or their partners!!

For heavens sake MN...I can see why it is termed the MN mafia

I don't really understand the idea that it's easier to keep clean. Do people generally have hair on their vulva and anus?

People do generally have hair around those areas, yes Confused.

Gloriia · 31/12/2024 08:14

CurlewKate · 31/12/2024 06:46

I don't ridicule women who remove their pubic hair. I do think it's important to consider whether the pressure that exists to do it is fuelled by the industry. Which it obviously is- the correlation is unmistakable. And there is always in threads like this the suggestion that women who do not shave are smelly, don't care about their themselves and are generally grubby.
Of course it should be a free choice. But I do think people should think about the background their choices.

If people feel cleaner, more hygienic then that is up to them. Not up to anyone else to police or judge women's choices.

Why do people shave their armpits, because they prefer it as it looks nicer and that is a good enough reason.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 31/12/2024 08:03

What sort of infections are people getting without pubic hair?

I'm 47 and I've never had an infection of any sort down there.

I'm very calm, what are you on about?? Did I say you were having a go at me?

It doesn't serve any purpose for me at all. For someone who cleans, wipes and showers daily hair just gets in a way and makes it harder to stay clean. It serves purpose for you then great. Not for me personally.

Great for you, but generally speaking it does serve a purpose.

Couldn’t agree more.
I said it upthread and I’ll say it again.
Never in my life have I felt pressured to shave my pubes from porn, or from a man.

But the amount of WOMEN on this thread absolutely bashing us bare ladies, calling us sex dolls, over plucked chickens, silly silly women, and telling us our partners are paedophiles… wow. It’s been very eye opening! It’s definitely not men that are the problem.

I hear u however pubic hair smells u need to be a clean person and a lot of adults struggle to bath twice a day to maintain cleanliness so forgive me but in theory it might be so but practically it’s unhygienic. Secondly as a couple u should be able to shave if a partner suggests and it makes them comfortable coz as ppl we like to hold on to our rights 2 much. I do not see anything wrong to do so if it’s makes it enjoyable for both sex is a 2 way thing

if it smells, you're not clean. and that doesn't require washing twice daily.
in fact, over washing can make things smell worse, as it upsets the PH balance.

don't buy into the idea that your body is intrinsically dirty and wrong.

Sorry you experienced that traumatic experience. But I do think to jump to the conclusion a person has sinister motives, just because they have a preference for removing pubes is a bit of an over-reaction.

@thinwomansbrain i was also sexually abused at the same age by a fanily member.

I still dont think someone having a preference of a woman, with a womans body, means they must be a paedophile.

And people bringing children into a topic thats completely unrelated is actually them sexualising children and disgusting.
