Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

And anyone who thinks a grown woman who has chosen to be hairless looks anything like a child. That is ridiculous. Absurd !

Why would it be a treat?

mondaytosunday · 29/12/2024 22:53

Never had anyone remark on it ever. I've only once had a bikini wax and decided never again.

@CandyCane457 it wasn’t aimed at you specifically. Lots of posters have said it. Sorry that you were hurt by my comment.

WishinAndHopin · 29/12/2024 22:52

Shaved poons look like raw chickens.

I think they look better with their clothes on.

I am celibate so there’s no consideration of others, but I personally dislike my hairy arse crack, God made a mistake putting it there. Also I have exceptionally hairy legs, my bikini line extends into full on man hair on my inner thighs. Plus my pubes are really long.

I feel I do have to get rid of a lot of it to be able to swim. But I rarely swim and have bought a modesty costume.

Shaving it all takes several hours, leaves me with minor cuts at the follicles as the hairs are so thick, looks good only for one day, then is sharp and itchy for a good week. Oh and you can still see the dark roots below the skin.

StrawHatLuffy · 29/12/2024 22:52

Anyone tried to pressure me would be laughed at and I'd plait the hair to make a point.

Collette78 · 29/12/2024 22:52

I personally prefer to shave .. I’ve not been pressured either way by any partners.

I am however currently embracing not shaving and it’s kind of liberating, but I wouldn’t keep it if I decided to start dating later on, as it’s my personal preference not to have any.

I find it hypocritical that some posters on here are attempting to belittle those that want to shave.

It’s personal preference, if you want people to be liberated then they are entitled to whatever their choices are.

Runkle · 29/12/2024 22:52

Never in 13 years has DP mentioned it. Nor previous partners.

tellmesomethingtrue · 29/12/2024 22:51

Sorry @CandyCane457 that did make me chuckle. Your choice.

Jennyathemall · 29/12/2024 21:46

No the opposite. Only this very evening my DH asked me not to shave for once and grow it out a bit to “mix it up” I said no way!

Some men find the spiky bits from growing out cause them some discomfort :)

CandyCane457 · 29/12/2024 22:46

Assuming that was aimed at me, I’ll probably phrase it any way I like! You knew what I meant, completely unnecessary comment.

er… it’s in the actual thread title

It's ironic that so many are saying your body your choice, but many are going eww at being bald.

I’ve also found this interesting!
Anyone on here that’s bald has just said that’s because it’s how they like it, but haven’t made any digs at women who prefer not to shave.
But the amount of non-shavers making digs at us bald “ sex dolls” (as someone upthread said 🤣) is interesting!

babyproblems · 29/12/2024 22:49

Surprised at so many saying they’ve never felt any pressure! I’m under 40 and I’ve always felt pressured / thought everyone did too! As far as I know (I’d be surprised if it was lies) all of my girl friends have either none or very little or regularly get it taken off to some degree! Wondered if it was an age thing. Being hairy hasn’t been fashionable once since I’ve been between say 18/20- now! Would be interested in it coming back into fashion actually for a change 😂😂😂

I’m 35 and, in the words of Sarah Millican, “I just try to keep it in my pants” 😂

Nothing worse than going for a swim and realising in the changing rooms that it looks like Hagrid is trying to escape from between your legs!

That’s what swimming shorts are for!

I beg to differ... when someone is eating you out... you'll look like a child.

Just asked my boyfriend if this is the case and he laughed at me and said “never once have I thought that!”

CandyCane457 · 29/12/2024 22:46

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 29/12/2024 22:44

I assume that anyone old enough to have pubic hair is probably too old to be saying ‘down there’.

I'm not a fan of shaving so I simply don't do it.

I do however think it's strange that people always bring 'pre-pubescencey' into these threads.

I'm 55, if I shaved my fanny and any child's pubic area even remotely resembled mine after I've had 3 vaginal births, I'd be phoning the poor kid an ambulance and ringing ahead to the hospital!

I agree so much with the pre-pubescence comments!

Im 35 and completely hair free down there, and when I look in the mirror I see the sexy, curvaceous woman that I am, not a child.

ArkaParka · 29/12/2024 22:42

NeverEverOhNo · 29/12/2024 21:51

What do most people do with their pubic hair? I'm in my 40s and feel like people don't share much. So I'm not sure if what I do is normal!

cariadlet · 29/12/2024 22:42

I'm in my late 50s and have never shaved or trimmed. I had a lot of sexual partners when I was young and not one expected it.

Fair enough if you do it for yourself but if it's an expectation for young women then that's really sad. Yet another thing - like slapping, choking and spitting - that comes from modern porn.

Nano234 · 29/12/2024 22:42

The expectation is from me ... I thought we all shaved for general tidiness :/
