Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

I just trim it because I prefer it that way, and have attempted to remove it all in the past just to experiment - I was single at the time - and I could not believe how hard it is to remove it all. Unless you go for a wax, and that's expensive. And the wax didn't get it all, and it grew back in ten days. Not fully of course, but after ten days I certainly wasn't smooth. The beautician said she was using the strongest wax and still couldn't pull it all out. Maybe because I was mid-forties and had never waxed.

Even shaving, getting it all is a nuisance.

A lot of men want smooth these days, and it's the porn influence. Seems like no one has pubic hair anymore!

Yeah the result is never actually that good - and what’s the point of having it all off if your arse crack is hairy anyway? No way am I putting a RAZOR FFS that near my anus when I can’t even see what I’m doing properly! And not keen on anyone else putting wax in there either! And if the arse is going to be hairy then everywhere else might as well be 😆 Oh and I actually have some fine hairs on the mucus membranes bit of the labia, and like hell am I waxing there. No no no no. No no no no hell no. 🤣

I am late 40s now and this was never a thing when I was growing up. In my 20s I remember the 'landing strip' being mentioned but I never heard of anyone shaving or being bald. Tbf it wasn't something that came up on conversation much either but as far I'm aware the full shave concept only became a thing in 2000s and following on from porn becoming more freely available.

ThatKhakiMoose · 29/12/2024 23:08

I don't think that total removal is child-like, as people often say on this topic. It's perfectly obvious that the person is an adult woman. I can see how it's erotic to see what's usually so hidden, and the odd time I've removed it all, the skin is very sensitive down there. But removing it all, all the time? What an absolute pain.

Doitrightnow · 29/12/2024 23:08

I loathe going bare. Ingrown hairs, itchy regrowth, camel toe....

I'm not willing to compromise on this. My boyfriends have all accepted it. But maybe it's different for the younger generations.

DissidentDaughter · 29/12/2024 23:08

Getting uptight about hairless adult fannies looking pre-pubescent is a bit odd. Unless, of course, you’re blind.

Cosyblankets · 29/12/2024 23:08

No pressure
I prefer a wax

BashfulClam · 29/12/2024 23:06

Never removed mine. Get a bikini wax if I’m going on holiday and trim it down as I have a full on ‘fleece’ happening.

But I don’t feel better. I look better when I’ve just had my hair cut but I don’t feel any different. Unlike when I had my public hair waxed and hated the feeling.

nam3c4ang3 · 29/12/2024 23:04

Every single partner I have been with doesn’t care - my husband now also doesn’t mind - it’s whatever I feel like depending on my laziness I guess - I usually leave a strip 😂

Namerchangee · 29/12/2024 23:03

I’ve never shaved for anyone and I’ve had no complaints. I trim and keep it tidy for hygeine reasons. No way am I scheduling pubic hair removal into my already crammed schedule, only to then deal with the BS of itchy regrowth and ingrown hairs. Anyone taking issue with it can wax their balls.

My question for you OP is: what type of alteration to his body and appearance does your partner make to fit in with your likes and dislikes? What would you expect him to do? If not, why not?

Pelagi · 29/12/2024 23:01

It’s up to you what you do with it. The correct response to anyone pressurising you to have it one way or another that you prefer not to do is, “think yourself lucky you get to see it at all, matey”.

byteme1011 · 29/12/2024 23:01

im a hairy mofo and i like to swim and honestly if i leave it to grow out it quickly coats my thighs - i shave that and trim the rest as in use cross stitching clips and clip it

I'm late 40s and it was never an expectation for me or my friends. I think people in their 30s now (millennials) were the generation where it really seemed to be expected to take it all off. Younger women seem to be pushing back against it again. I have a teen daughter and removing body hair doesn't seem to be such a thing.

Yes - I teach university students and the young women often go about proudly displaying underarm and leg hair - good for them!

No pressure here - I have no intention of shaving! Did a couple of times in my 20s: hated the look (and the itching). DP doesn’t seem to care - he quite likes a bush.

I’m bi and I don’t like a shaved look on women either - thankfully none of my female partners ever did!

“For hygiene reasons”

this always comes up on these threads. Pubic hair is hygienic. Removing, trimming, whatever is not more hygienic.

I have straight pubes, and if I don't trim they get pretty unhygenic when it's the time of the month as they just hang down.

SpringIscomingalso · 29/12/2024 22:57

My husband does not know what hair I grow where. LOL. As long I am here

Surprised at so many saying they’ve never felt any pressure! I’m under 40 and I’ve always felt pressured / thought everyone did too! As far as I know (I’d be surprised if it was lies) all of my girl friends have either none or very little or regularly get it taken off to some degree! Wondered if it was an age thing. Being hairy hasn’t been fashionable once since I’ve been between say 18/20- now! Would be interested in it coming back into fashion actually for a change 😂😂😂

@CandyCane457 it wasn’t aimed at you specifically. Lots of posters have said it. Sorry that you were hurt by my comment.

I’m not sure that I’m “hurt” I just felt it was unnecessary, and it followed one of my posts where I used that phrase so I don’t think it was too wild to think it was directed my way! But don’t worry, I’m not hurt!

Nerdlings · 29/12/2024 22:56

I’m not sure why anyone would want you to look like a pre pubescent child.

I’d seriously reevaluate your relationship

ShortyShorts · 29/12/2024 22:56

CandyCane457 · 29/12/2024 22:42

I agree so much with the pre-pubescence comments!

Im 35 and completely hair free down there, and when I look in the mirror I see the sexy, curvaceous woman that I am, not a child.

I've a feeling it's a bit of a 'learned MN response' that some people just slap out without actually thinking.

StrongasSixpence · 29/12/2024 22:54

I'm mid thirties and shagged around extensively from 16-21 and from 29-31 (been in long term relationships otherwise). Prime age group for supposed preferences for baldy fannies.

Never had an issue. I keep my pubes trimmed fairly short and sometimes shave the bikini line when I shave my legs but have never waxed or shaved the mons pubis or labia majora. No man has ever batted an eye or made a comment. Never felt pressured to do anything different. My long term partners both never expressed a wish for me to wax and would only occasionally mention it was getting in the way (for oral) if I had left it a few weeks without trimming and it had got a bit wild.

I would not tolerate a sexual partner who couldn't cope with pubes. I would also dislike (but not make a fuss about) a partner who waxed but don't care either way if they trim.

whiteboardking · 29/12/2024 22:54

I thought everyone below 40 removed most of it..
