is it just me or does anyone else hate the days inbetween xmas and new year and going into the new year. I feel like i end up a little depressed, like i have nothing to look forward to. Kids driving me mad, been round my OH to much so were bickering and i just feel out of routine.

Do anyone else feel like this?

Suzuki76 · 29/12/2024 14:16

We were so ill and bored last year we've been travelling round the country to see family this year to fill the time!

I love the days between Christmas and New year. For me it's a period of resting and relaxing. I think I like it more than the run up to Christmas.

Very true

Mary46 · 29/12/2024 14:15

Dog great as gets us out. Enjoying Netflix too.

Lolypoly14 · 29/12/2024 14:15

I hate it.

I find I get a bit depressed to be honest so like to have plans and keep busy during this bit.

We usually go away for a couple of days but DH has had flu since Christmas night so we’ve cancelled our plans. We’re supposed to be having a New Year’s Eve party but it looks like we’ll be cancelling that too.

The dog has been walked a lot, I’ve been for many mooches in town and I’ve watched a lot of crap on TV and am eating for the sake of eating. I’ve met up with friends a few times, but they’re mostly busy with their own families. I have finished a couple of knitting projects that have been lying around for ages though.

Napping ruins my sleeping patterns - I have insomnia on and off so I am quite strict with myself over bed times/lie ins and naps.

I like structure and routine and I’m not great with aimless mooching so I feel like I’m just wasting days. I’m bored shitless, but I cba to do anything either.

I'm working between. Is this an option for you ? When our dc were young we never both took AL during that period as we preferred to save joint leave for the summer.

lleeggoo · 29/12/2024 14:12

@CurlyhairedAssassin

I'm the same about New Year, I'll be in bed before midnight probably. But why cut Christmas short by going back to normal as soon as possible? Or do you have to work?

I don't cut it short

I'm not fussed about new year so after Christmas/Boxing day we just go back to normal in our family.

Rather than fill December with busyness and stress, save the fun things for now. Pantos, light displays, family visits etc. So much more relaxed and enjoyable at this time.

Love it!!

Sales, sleep in, eating, slippers, cleaning & clearing out crap. Washing on the radiators, visiting folk, relaxing, Netflix, films, telly, audiobooks.

LOVE. IT!

You are my kind of woman.

Enjoy it!

Thejugglestruggle · 29/12/2024 14:01

It's my favourite. Leftovers, telly, lights still up, waking up later, less structure. A welcome change to the rest of an overly scheduled year!

I like it more now i've let go of the guilt of not "being productive". It's marvellous. And hurting no-one.

Natsku · 29/12/2024 13:58

I like them, sleeping late and eating cheese. But I'm back to work tomorrow so no more relaxing.

LondonLawyer · 29/12/2024 13:56

No, they are utterly fabulous! I'm still at my parents' place, my sons and DH are here, my sisters, nephew and brother are all around, there's nothing much anyone has to do except chat, play games, go for walks and chill. It's lovely.

FourChimneys · 29/12/2024 13:50

My one person business goes quiet which is perfect. We normally pick a room to redecorate. This year it is the sitting room so although we are in chaos it is positive and rewarding.

We also go away, hike up a mountain or two, see family and friends or do some gardening. If I was just sat on the sofa I would hate it. If I do get bored there is always my tax return to do.

My brother always goes for a long walk, two or three days normally.

Neveragain35 · 29/12/2024 13:49

It’s actually my favourite bit! All the stress and build up of Xmas is over, everyone is just pottering, we can lie in, watch TV, go for walks, catch up with friends… even when the DC were little it was just a nice time for them to play with their new toys and hang out.

MerryLiftMass · 29/12/2024 13:49

You need to get out of the house for a bit and beat the cabin fever. We do panto inbetween Christmas and new year but even just a good walk outside will help!

Ilovemyshed · 29/12/2024 13:48

Its lovely. Chance to catch up on a few jobs, have long lie ins and walks, potter out and about, knowing that work is quiet and emails will be few on the return.

Mary46 · 29/12/2024 13:48

Yes agree op. I tried to plan a meetup with few colleagues but everyone is sick or flus. Days long. Went sales another day

Mapleunicorn · 29/12/2024 13:46

I hate it. The build up to Christmas is over so everything feels a bit flat. I love the enthusiasm that comes with a new year - throw myself into house projects and going on a health kick, but I can’t get my brain to do it before the 1st. So I float around feeling unproductive. I really should just embrace the time for relaxing but it just feels like there is no purpose to these days

specialsauce · 29/12/2024 13:42

I'm enjoying this bit. Pottering, getting small jobs done but then having an hour to do nothing in between. No rush as no work tmrw so can slowly get things shipshape ready for 2025.
And the footballs on again at 3 - always makes me feel like a kid again, on a Saturday with the football on in the background (mum pottering in the garden, dad fixing something at the table while watching the footy - me playing with my tea set)
oops sorry - got carried away there 😄

Pleaseletmegohome · 29/12/2024 13:40

I LOVE it. Best bit for me. I hate, really detest, the build up to Christmas and the day itself. The sense of pressure & foreboding I feel is awful. This period of aftermath is heaven. Like an almighty exhale. I adore it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/12/2024 13:39

I’m enjoying the R&R tbh. Caught up on a few jobs this morning and found homes for some Christmas presents. Planning an afternoon with a new book and/or a jigsaw. Yes there’s too much food and not enough exercise, but I work hard in a demanding job all year, spending time doing not very much at all is restorative. But I don’t have young kids needing to be occupied, they’re older and squirrelled away revising for upcoming exams.

Itisjustmyopinion · 29/12/2024 13:39

It’s one of the best weeks of the year. It’s like one long weekend and I love it. Great reset before getting back into the usual routine
