I was in a job a few years ago and there was an issue with the heating. It gets really hot in the office, 26 degrees in winter which is really drying and I was going home with head aches. Raised this with managers who didn't do anything and than health and safety guy. I should be this ill from working in an office.

He said he would follow it up and agreed it was hot. The operations manager contacted the office manager to see how the temp was in the office - to which it was said I was wearing a coat (there are two people with the same name in the office but she shortens her name). The director of HR was CC and anyway I got a job with a £5k pay increase a few weeks later as it got way out of hand.

Anyway I was surfing Facebook and the office manager has made a comment about it on her facebook and tagged my manager and the person who sits next to me. The comment was brief along the lines of "what do I have to deal with".

Aibu in thinking that's not right?

Obviously very inappropriate if a manager is commenting about staffing issues. However, 2 questions: why on earth are you connected to your previous manager on Facebook? Why do you care if you have left?

She's a friend I though. Sent me a Christmas card
Came to baptism. So not some random things but hey that doesn't fit with the narrative of people writing shitty things on Facebook and getting caught

"Watching" just for the bonkers updates 😂

Same. This is excellent value entertainment.

ThinWomansBrain · 27/12/2024 19:51

well clearly your new employers didn't search your social media when recruiting you, or if they did, shock horror, it didn't put them off recruiting you.

And MN is anonymous (presumably your name is not Olive Writer) so no one will recognise the extent to which you can hold a grudge over something so petty,

Also, are you saying that your manager at the time tagged your future manager and the woman you would go on to sit beside in the future in a post about you even though neither of them knew you and you hadn't been given the job yet?? I think you're overthinking this.

No, completely wrong

Thank you. That's a wonderful synopsis. Of course, the story raises as many questions as it answers. Although I'm tempted to ask OP follow-up questions, I fear the wrath of some other posters who seem a little irate. Can't imagine why... ;)

Because people are rude and aren't accountable for their shitty behaviour

About it, as in about your complaint? The wording is a bit difficult to follow.

InSpainTheRain · 27/12/2024 19:49

VivX · 27/12/2024 19:48

How did you know that the post was specifically about you? Any number of things could have happened in your colleagues' day. They could have been referring to something else entirely.1

Bournetilly · 27/12/2024 19:48

Posting about work colleagues is inappropriate.

I don’t really understand the post though. Your colleague who sits next to you posted they need a day off to catch up and your boss commented this is what I have to deal with? That doesn’t seem like it’s aimed at you.

TeaAndTattoos · 27/12/2024 19:48

You can tell the kids are on their Christmas holiday and bored already.

WigglyVonWaggly · 27/12/2024 19:45

I agree with you, OP. They shouldn’t be criticising an employee publicly on Facebook - it isn’t the place. Not nice to see people you thought you got on with are writing things about you as if you’re a pain in the arse. Had you seen it at the time, you could have raised this. Three years is too long ago now so I’d try to forget and just be glad you are out of there.

Lifestooshort71 · 27/12/2024 19:44

Ooh, I'm enjoying this one - just when the sparkle had gone down on Christmas, up pops something a tad amusing). I'm sorry OP, I can't feel compassion because I'm still not sure why you feel so aggrieved.

VivX · 27/12/2024 19:43

"Facebook stalking" is just slang - all it means that you clicked on someone's profile and looked through their posts etc
...it doesn't mean that you're engaing in illegal/criminal behaviour.

HollyKnight · 27/12/2024 19:42

You don't know that it was about you. I'm sure your manager had more than just that going on. Plus she thought the complaint was by the other person (with the coat), so if she had been talking about that incident, it would have been the other person she was thinking about.

FeliznaviDogs · 27/12/2024 19:42

ByOliveWriter · 27/12/2024 19:19

Because why are people gate keeping what I'm bothered about? They don't live my life.

But you’ve asked for readers opinions by asking ‘AIBU’ - so readers are giving their opinions and you don’t seem to like it if readers don’t agree with you.

Highlighta · 27/12/2024 19:41

I'm just impressed you can remember the exact date of the day you got too hot three years ago.

I can't remember what I ate 3 weeks ago.

And yes, YABU.

Jennyathemall · 27/12/2024 19:40

ByOliveWriter · 27/12/2024 19:33

It's just typical of MN users. Either leave your husband as he is breathing or gatekeep what people should care about. No care or compassion

Sad face.

Richiewoo · 27/12/2024 19:40

Get a life. Its history
You're not there anymore.

HagTime · 27/12/2024 19:39

I'm going to drink a shot every time this OP says gatekeeping.

LuckysDadsHat · 27/12/2024 19:38

You need to let it go. Something this petty should not take up this much space in your mind.

Also there is no maximum temperature under health and safety legislation so it could have been 40 degrees and nothing you could do.

HagTime · 27/12/2024 19:38

What an absolutely bonkers thread.

Agix · 27/12/2024 19:37

You were Facebook stalking. People go out in real life knowing people will see them in the street too, but if someone comes and purposely watches them without their knowledge or an invite to join them, thats stalkery. That's the real life equivalent of what you were doing.

Anyway OP, YABU. Their FB posts are fine.

BeLilacSloth · 27/12/2024 19:37

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 27/12/2024 19:29

I like a challenge:

three years ago, OP complained to anyone who would listen that the office was hot in winter. Then someone else wore a coat. At the same time, the poor suffering office manager posted on FB (and I paraphrase) ‘Look at these bloody idiots I have to deal with at work’, possibly while mourning her career choices via much wine.

OP gets another job, somehow.

Theee. Years. Later. OP is stalking reading her old colleagues’ posts and finds the post from three years ago.

She wants to know if the office manager was BU to post that at the end of what had clearly been a trying week.

Answer: hell no.

Thank you so much for this, I read OP’s post 3 times ans still had no clue what was going on!!
