My BIL has just left and was such a grumpy sod for the whole time he was here. 🙄 I wanted to shake him but DH told me to just leave it, it's just what he's like... and don't I know that's true!!

What about you? Who got on your nerves?

Yes thank you. I am the worse person in the world but I have it back.

You're not and if they think it, their opinion is worth nothing.

My mum. Has been a totally uncompromising dick about how we do Christmas our whole lives (e.g. I wasn’t ever allowed out on Christmas Eve…the one year (aged 25) I popped out to my now-DH’s house to see him for 2 hours she made me feel terrible and gave me the silent treatment); anyway, this year, she divorced my dad, has got a new boyfriend and dropped us all. So sad.

My mum did the same a few years ago. Things have never been the same since. Saw her briefly before Christmas but she told us it was too much for her to have us visit over the festive period and chose to have a quiet one with her boyfriend. Didn't even do presents for the kids.
DH annoyed me as I was left to host his parents and as he's still recovering from a bout of man flu, he didn't lift a finger. Too worn out and tired.
Plus the kids bickered their way through Christmas. I'm actually glad it's over. Definitely getting Grinchy in my middle age!

Aww reading all these comments, just makes me miss my mum and dad more. My mum was adorable and loved coming for Christmas. Either DH or I would pick her up in the morning, then she'd have a brew when she got here, I'd plonk her in front of the tv with the remote and any offers of help I'd decline. She would be so grateful for absolutely everything, from cups of tea, drinks, the meal and the lift back home. She was an absolute treasure to have around. Dad used to go to his partners family (mum and dad had been divorced since 1980) but we always spoke on the phone Christmas morning. And I saw him all the time.
I'm so sorry that a lot of you have absolutely shocking parents and family. I count myself blessed that I had lovely parents. 💐

NorthernSpirit · 29/12/2024 22:46

My 16 YO stepson who agreed weeks before that he was coming to us for Christmas (24th - 28th) this year.

SS messages my DH at 10pm the night before he was due over to say he won’t be coming.

DH is upset (actually that’s an understatement) but has been putting on a brave face to family & friends who have asking where he is.

He then said he’d come on the 29th (today). Husband chases him to see what time he’s coming over, at 3pm he sends a text ‘not today, maybe tomorrow’.

I’m so done with being a stepparent. Absolutely thankless task.

My SIL but to be fair she pisses me off constantly.

My mother has enraged me. This probably sounds silly hit a elderly relative of our is terminally unwell and is very unlikely to be here for next Christmas. She bought me a beautiful gift that I love (not expensive but something that she knew I would love). The second this lady left my mother picked up my gift and handed it to my sister in law and told her oh this is beautiful take it home with you.

DH and his man flu 🙄

Was just going to put this... But then add, that with all the coughing day and night and very few mouth covering occasions, I now have the bloody thing too! Happy fecking New Year to me! 🙄

JustWalkingTheDogs · 29/12/2024 22:07

My df, I love him to bits but I realise that as he's now in his 70s he's turning into a bit of a racist, sexist grumpy old man, who packages up his inappropriate comments as humour. I don't see him very often as he lives a fair few hours away but after 5 days I was struggling to bite my tongue

2025willbemytime · 29/12/2024 22:05

Ex h. Horrible to me. Unforgivable towards our children.

confusednana · 29/12/2024 22:03

DSS (30) who stayed for a few days... never showered, changed his clothes or brushed his teeth for the whole time he was here. Didn't get out of bed until gone lunchtime, simply sat on the sofa and stared at the TV. expected to be waited on hand and foot and as usual never gave me, his dad or my children a gift!

HappyMamma2023 · 29/12/2024 22:00

My uncle. I can't forgive his poor hygeine. He took his shoes off the first nignt and immediately apologised for his smelly feet! I honestly thought we'd brought the cheese board out early 🤢 meanwhile DH is silenty laughing uncontrollably 🤣🧀

DH's family being loud and excited about his cousins wedding (all paid for and over the top) when his other cousin who can't afford hers and has been engaged forever was sat in the same room, then asking her why she hasn't got on with planning hers like money frows on trees. So thick and insensitive.

Dementia was the biggest dick this year, probably the last Xmas whilst my Mum has some semblance of what is going on.
In second place is my sister who never visits her, rarely calls and declared herself and her husband too tired to drive 2 hours to share said likely last Christmas.

I know this is off topic but i wanted to share something i was taught when i did “Dementia Friend” training… emotions remain even if the person has forgotten the event. So although your mum may forget being with her family and having a good Christmas she will still feel happy from the nice time she’s had x

Usually because getting away would impact other people negatively.

I got away, we only have one life

I am so glad I am single, my choice, some of the husbands on this thread should all be under the patio, castrated and/or shot!
Why do you good women put up with being so disrespected, bullied and abused?

Usually because getting away would impact other people negatively.

KStockHERO · 29/12/2024 18:01

My mother who refused to come to my house because of her worsening health (fair enough) meaning I had to visit her.

She informed me that I had to clean her kitchen of the terrible black mold infestation. I did that, stripping the lining from my lungs and making my eyes water like crazy. Then she told me I looked really old (because my eyes are red) and my voice sounds weird (because the anti-mold stuff dried out my throat).

Then she kept referring to my husband (DP of 20 years, DH of 11 years) as my ex-boyfriend's name.

Then she barked ridiculous instructions at me and called me a "stupid cow" as I was getting equipment ready to clip her toenails.

Then as I was leaving she asked me "Do you want any cheese? I've got far too much and I won't use it" after I bought her a cheese hamper for her Christmas present.

So, that was very nice.

MyPithyPoster · 29/12/2024 17:54

I have a list.
ex-husband for taking child on the 22nd basically did absolutely nothing with him but meant that I couldn’t do anything with him either. We are trying to enjoy the gap between Christmas and New Year, but it really isn’t the same.
Next year we’re going on holiday together from the 10th till the middle of January

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 29/12/2024 17:53

Oh and how can I have forgotten? Alcoholic ex partner knocking on our door 1 30 am Christmas day after pubs shut.

Didn't answer.

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 29/12/2024 17:48

Oh I have a list

Ds s girlfriend who has been staying for ages and messes everything up. When they get their own place he ll see how messy she is (cos I clean our kitchen every fucking day multiple times).
Ds for not telling her to go home.

Dm for not seeing I m on the edge of screaming and it's not all lovely spending Christmas together when I m still very tired from the flu.

Df for dying a few years ago (I know this is unreasonable) because I really need him today. We "got" each other and he was always on my side. Nobody who shares my car interest now.

The police for allocating dd Christmas day shift this year. I know she does an important job but I really missed her.

And yes I m unreasonable and will be very much capable 50 something "Miss" next week when school goes back but right now I want to cry like a teenager 😢

CRCGran · 29/12/2024 17:47

SIL...... I usually host xmas for about 8 family members. For many years. SIL has never so much as contributed a Brussels sprout. But she sits and dictates to my brother what he can eat. Not allowed an extra roast potato or seconds of pudding. I usually tell her to shut up and mind her own business. She has various illnesses but they seem selective, eg she claims she can't manage to eat much but always eats full 3 courses at mine every year. However, this year I said I wasn't hosting abd suggested we all go out for dinner on xmas eve. Everyone agreed. So, a week before xmas she called to say she hoped I wouldn't be embarrassed at her being unable to eat much !! I said I couldn't give a flying f*ck what she eats. So she called my sister and said the same. My sister gave her the same response. So.... she called the restaurant and checked it would be OK for her to have small portions!!!! Got to make everything about her. And it's all fake. She had a face like an arse the whole evening because nobody was paying any attention to her. My niece, her daughter, told her on at least 3 occasions to shut up and just don't eat the food if she didn't want it. It's because of her crap like this that I couldn't face hosting this year. And believe me this behaviour only scratches the surface. Hateful miserable woman. We're thinking of going abroad next year !!! Just me and hubby !!! Had enough!!! However, it was just the 2 of us on xmas day. We visited my son, DIL, and GC in the morning then home for a lovely day and boxing day.

My MiL who sat and did not help in any way as I ran around for 3 days feeding, tidying, planning activities etc. to be fair she has some mobility issues so I understand that there were some things she couldn't do, although there were some she could have (peeled veg for example). But what really pissed me off was that she would guilt trip DH into amusing her constantly as she would say she was bored or feeling left out, so that meant I never had DH's help with the domestic chores as he was always having a cup of tea or GnT with his mother while I beavered away in the kitchen like Cinderella.

This is up to your DH as well.

My DN.

My plentiful Boxing Day buffet table included a plate of duck spring rolls with a hoisin dip.

Everyone was saying - "oooh I really like those!" There were 12 on the plate, enough for one each or maybe 2 as a few vegetarians were there. Tons and tons of other foods to choose from including vegetable spring rolls.

DN took 6 duck and 4 vegetarian.

He then had the audacity to complain there were none left when he went back for seconds.

In addition to this he also took about 10 of my DDs delicious home made sesame and red onion sausage rolls leaving a paltry few for everyone else. This was before anyone else had a chance to take a few ( he was predictably the first in the queue...) Before anyone says, he is NT and has no allergies.
Oh and he is 21 so should have developed a few bloody manners by now! 😡

I can’t bear it when people are incapable of basic maths. The number of items there are divided by how many people there are is a number you should not take more than.
