Husband went to the gym on Christmas Day?

pineofcone · 27/12/2024 13:51

We did Christmas just the two of us. We don’t have children and our families live in different countries.

We did presents, watched a film, cooked dinner and then he said he was off to the gym. He is very much into the gym, goes pretty much every day.

He couldn’t understand why I was annoyed that he couldn’t just miss one day. Aibu?

😴 ok stranger, thanks for a classic yet boringly unoriginal MN comment, I’m sure your opinion of me as an anonymous person you’ve never met means a lot.

I agree with the poster you replied to here. At the start of reading your thread I was sort of thinking yeah for one day he should of just left the gym but then I read all your replies and they are not showing you in a good light. If your attitude is like this normally then it’s no surprise he went to the gym

Winterskyfall · 28/12/2024 08:57

pineofcone · 27/12/2024 21:59

Who said he felt bad though?

Ok, change the words to you trying to make him feel bad then.

pineofcone · 27/12/2024 21:59

Who mentioned one hour?

You have studiously avoided the question of how long he was gone so people will fill in the very deliberate blanks themselves.

I think I understand why he went to the gym.

He goes every day, unsurprisingly.

I think I would too.

MissTrip82 · 28/12/2024 07:59

We both exercised on Christmas Day (separately). We didn’t go to the gym but could have - we have fob access, so the opening hours are listed on the site but we can get in anytime (for those who googled gyms).

It’s a normal thing to do if you enjoy exercising. For us very exciting as only possible as we were both not working for the first time in about ten years!

What a sad little life Jane.

Who’s that invested in a thread they spend their time googling gym opening times.

I see why he "went for the gym"

Shrinkingrose · 28/12/2024 07:44

Op, what did you want from this thread. You seem pissed off people aren’t just agreeing with you and saying he was in the wrong.

I think if you just want people to go yeah you’re right. Then it is best not to start and thread, asking, as people will be honest, and it won’t always go your way.

in this instance, many people would be absolutely fine with their partner going to the gym in the evening, as long as it didn’t impact the Christmas festivities, which it didn’t or kids/family. Which again it didn’t. In a good marriage accomadating each other is key, and it seems he happily did everything all day and just wanted to go take some exercise.

we have no idea what’s going on with your marriage where spending a day together is so important to you , and he’s not supposed to want to go to the gym, or why you didn’t wish to be alone.but on the face of it, you appear petty and unreasonable

Alaimo · 28/12/2024 07:31

I went to the gym on Christmas day. It was open but unstaffed.

It was also just DH and I at home. We had a leisurely breakfast/brunch and then Christmas dinner around 6pm, so lots of time in between tog etc some exercise. It was surprisingly busy I. The gym too, at least 30-40 people in there in the early afternoon.

NiftyKoala · 28/12/2024 07:02

Maybe next year you can talk before Christmas and explain to him how much you'd like a whole day together. It doesn't even have to be Christmas.

BigSilly · 28/12/2024 05:48

I would have done had it been open

daisychain01 · 28/12/2024 05:38

What are you looking for on your thread, @pineofcone it isn't clear.

to give you any sort of worthwhile response you needed to give more information to judge whether it was a reasonable action for your DP to go to the gym. Was he gone for an hour or so? How quickly did he return? Did you have Christmas dinner together or did he do a disappearing act for hours?

instead of being goading and mocking posters on here, why not give some information if you do actually want some proper opinions based on more than the most scant information.

if not, happy new year, hope he doesn't disappear to the gym on NYE.

wombat1a · 28/12/2024 03:11

My DH for sure would go for a bike ride if the weather was okay for it. There is no chance at all of getting him to sit on a sofa and watch a film if he could be outside. Honestly I'm glad to let him go as he would be up and down the whole time watching a film to find anything else to do.

Itsannamay · 28/12/2024 03:10

I went for a walk...if dh told me he didn't want me to go as he wanted to spend 24 hours with me, I would have thought he was bonkers (and felt suffocated). Unless there was a reason e.g. he was really sick.

I would crack up without the fresh air / exercise / peace for an hour.

derbiee · 28/12/2024 03:08

Gyms are open but this is MN he has to be shagging something, I don't know if this place could handle him getting petrol

If my husband wanted to go and it did not interfere in anything planned i would have no issue, he'll would freeze over before I did it but nothing to do with Christmas

I would go to bookshop if it was open but would this mean I would have to cheat with the man in knitting section?

Amanduh · 28/12/2024 03:01

My gym was open Xmas Day, always is.
I wouldn’t begrudge my oh going but if I’d explicity asked him not too I’d be annoyex/disappointed and find it unecessary on Christmas Day I think

JHound · 28/12/2024 02:44

As for him going to the gym (if he really did) it’s 1-2 hours out of a 24 hour day so I don’t really see the big deal.

There are gyms open on Christmas Day? Mine was firmly shut.

dothehokeycokey · 28/12/2024 01:08

My dh also went to the gym on Xmas day

Ours has 24 hr access.

I don't see what the issue is @pineofcone ?

So it was a Xmas day without family around what difference does that make??

Seriously if you're that needy you have an issue.

It does make me laugh here at times.
The posts from women saying they don't get any time out and are told to just go and do stuff for yourselves and under no circumstances are you to go home or not go and yet a man goes out to the gym and everyone jumps and says he's not putting the op first.

I look forward to some peace and quiet when mine goes to the gym to read my book or just pootle or watch what I want on tv

LunarLanding · 28/12/2024 00:37

Very much envy your day OP! My day was a screaming toddler that didn’t like anything and no rest until she finally went to bed in the evening. I’d have given my right arm for some quiet time on Christmas 😂

The irony of your response to being called unpleasant 😭😭😭

Op you are coming across as quite unpleasant in your replies. I can see why your DH would want time away from you if you are also like this in rl

I went for a run on Christmas Day and I’d like to confirm that doesn’t mean I was having an affair and getting bent over a log somewhere in the woods, it just means I went for a run.

Mandylovescandy · 27/12/2024 22:47

I went for a run Christmas day, think he could have run the plan past you but not inherently unreasonable to want to go
