First time doing it this year. Added sweetcorn to mine as I like it! Rate my roast (Christmas dinner)

I confess I couldn’t cope with it all being piled up like that. I plate everything into distinct areas on the plate, and just go back for seconds if required.

TheoreticalVacuum · 26/12/2024 17:26

The veg doesn't look overcooked, the Yorkshires look good, but the sweetcorn would ruin it for me. However, I'm all for putting whatever you want with a roast. If you enjoyed it, then it was a winner. .

TheRozzers · 26/12/2024 17:21

If you made it for me I would gratefully eat it but secretly judge you for the sweetcorn and Aunt Bessies Yorkshire pudding.

Maybe this one is better. Agree presentation could have been better !

Looks like mine did, a mess.. but tasted fecking GORGEOUS ❤️ Yours looks like it tastes beautifully too. 10 out of 10 for me

Bigearringsbigsmile · 26/12/2024 17:06

Tell me about your gravy please. It looks alarmingly bistoish

Difficult to tell as it's in a pile rather than flat on the plate as sep elements. I can't think how I'd begin to eat food from a pile

Can't you? I'd give it a go 😂

LesLavandes · 26/12/2024 17:01

Looks great

Flicitytricity · 26/12/2024 17:00

It looks lovely!
Hope it tasted as good as it looks 😋

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 26/12/2024 16:54

Yabu for putting sweetcorn on your roast, sorry 🤭

OneTC · 26/12/2024 16:54

Roast is one of the most unphotoable foods, as any thread about roasts on this site will tell you. Post after post of indeterminate slop.

You can do it, but generally people don't arrange it when they plate it, especially if it's self serve or part self serve.

NameChanges123 · 26/12/2024 16:53

Well done! It looks tasty.

It looks tasty. All you need is a bigger plate! 😂

Yep, maybe a bigger plate but it looks good to me. Frankly, I don't plate anything apart from small children's meals anymore. Let them all help themselves.

Presentation is not always appreciated.
The worst is when I used to make Herring under a fur coat or Shuba for my Russian ex boyfriend with all the delicate layers and I wanted him to eat it by keeping the different elements intact, using the side of a fork. But nyet. He just squished it all up.

Not to my taste.

I'm a chef and there is no way of making a roast look pretty unless you serve everything in side dishes!

Of course there is.

There's a thread with lots of photos of Christmas dinners and plenty of them look pretty.

Oh there is of course! Lots of colours, nicely spaced out, attractive plate with gravy on the side, it can look very pretty! I did mine in a giant Yorkshire this year, with swede purée, sprouts and red cabbage for colour.

KnopkaPixie · 26/12/2024 16:17

Good work, first timer. I agree with Pinot Noir.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 26/12/2024 15:47

Well done to you. Did you enjoy it?.
Looks like a classic roast 8/10

RobertaFirmino · 26/12/2024 15:47

How did it taste? It looks good for a first effort, be proud of yourself!

I'm a chef and there is no way of making a roast look pretty unless you serve everything in side dishes! The meat looks tender as it is flaking apart, the greens are still green, the yorkie looks good (if that's homemade good job! If not who cares) and the spuds look nicely roasted. Good job you! 9/10

PinotDragon · 26/12/2024 15:41

For clarification I can see a spud by a yorkie
