My DH spent all morning on Christmas Eve putting up fairy lights on the patio and then announced he was going to clean the living room windows (and even though it was by now dark). Meanwhile I am running around like a blue arsed fly cleaning bathrooms, changing sheets and hoovering because his bloody family are coming to stay.

Bloke priorities.

They are good, or rather think they are good at looking busy to avoid actually doing their fair share.

Festivespirit85 · 27/12/2024 18:50

I was gonna say, either he is taking a shit or doing some unnecessary job.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 27/12/2024 18:37

Every time we were going on holiday, I'd be running around getting myself and the DCs packed, tidying, sorting out cat sitting etc etc. DH would slowly get the ladder out to put all Dvds, DVD player and laptop in the loft for "security". Fine. But this is the same man who would regularly leave the back door unlocked (and occasionally open wide) overnight. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheHistorian · 27/12/2024 18:23

Guests knocking on the door to be let in. Ex-husband would decide it's time to have a shower.

As pp said avoidance behaviour.

Barney16 · 27/12/2024 18:22

Ah, another example of male avoidance. When we were little and going on holiday we would all be sat in the car waiting for my dad to finish faffing around in the house My mother would be going ballistic in the car, he would be sauntering around "checking the window locks" or some other nonsense he had come up with. He did it every time, without fail. We always went on holiday, it was just some weird protest faff about. Make sure he doesn't replace all the patio slabs OP, make it easier for you to bury him under them.

Iceboy80 · 27/12/2024 18:12

Let's be honest no matter what he does, you'll never be happy.

Motnight · 26/12/2024 12:24

How thoughtful.of him preparing his final resting place 😬

🤣🤣🤣

GuessingGownaGoGo · 27/12/2024 18:08

If it gets the patio (and other things) done - perhaps book a few more holiday outings?

CRD67 · 27/12/2024 18:02

To your headline
Panto in an hour, guess what my husband is doing ?
I was hoping the correct response was
He's behind you.
😁

I think this kind of thing is a product of Man Time. I've noticed over the years that Man Time has only three units:

  1. Five minutes;
  2. Half an hour;
  3. 'Oh, all right then, an hour tops.'

(Except in the case of Tradesman Time, where it goes more like:

  1. By the end of today;
  2. Friday latest;
  3. sucks teeth 'Hard to say, love, we're waiting on a part from Azerbaijan.')

Its to note the same men habits transverse the ocean to the US.😂😂😂

peachystormy · 27/12/2024 17:54

My kids dad left his 4th birthday party to go help a friend move a bed

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 27/12/2024 17:44

He’s unaware of where the man ended up in brookside

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 26/12/2024 21:14

I love a panto. Saw two this year. Have not moved any slabs.

😂Would the dishes not have been easier?

It was subconscious, I didn't realise until later. And it was an epic amount of dishes! No regrets Wink

If you get time, read the short story, The Way Up To Heaven (widely available to read online).

Loved that, thanks!

Technonan · 26/12/2024 20:02

Panto? I'd rather be sticking needles in my eyes.

haretodaygonelater · 26/12/2024 19:48

Update
We made the panto in plenty of time, we go every year at Christmas and all really enjoy it.

I'm shocked at how many hate it to be honest.

I think he just has his own internal clock, he is very laid back and it's not unusual for him to be pottering about. He did get a lot done of it today and usually finishes jobs quickly so he isn't a bad guy, just very chill!

Did he mishear when you said panto ?

Interestingly all journeys in Man Time are twenty minutes, regardless of distance.

So this is why I find MN invaluable, because to me this behaviour is not acceptable once, let alone over many years, and I don't see the humour in it? So it's interesting for me to see how people handle it, as reader, I divorced mine. Obvs he did other shit as well, but to me this is weaponised incompetence.

Becc91 · 26/12/2024 17:03

How inconsiderate...😤
I hate that men just
Will he be sleeping on the sofa tonight?? Oh no he won't (oh yes he will 😈)

Wildlynx · 26/12/2024 16:41

Reminds me of this Rosie made a thing cartoon. Which may or may look like a previous Christmas morning in our house, minus the trip to Bethlehem 🙄

This is why there was no room at the inn. He'd left it too late and they were all full.

Twototwo15 · 26/12/2024 16:50

Tinseltuttifruitti · 26/12/2024 15:13

Panto, patio, they sound so similar...
Regarding avoidance, I once stripped the wallpaper and repainted the ceiling in a bathroom to skip my turn at dishes Blush

😂Would the dishes not have been easier?

Daleksatemyshed · 26/12/2024 16:50

I'd rather dig a patio than go the panto, tell your DH 1) he has my deepest sympathies but also 2) to get his arse in gear, his DC are waiting
