Is 8 too young to watch Sex and the City?

Ugh! My 18 year old would be horrified watching it tbh. It’s outdated trash and guilty pleasure viewing even as an adult. For a child it would be super cringe and totally inappropriate. In fact bordering on porn in some episodes it could even be considered sexual abuse to watch it with a child. I might be tempted to report this as a safeguarding concern.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 25/12/2024 23:38

(I do enjoy SATC actually but no way do I want my kid ever seeing it as a relationships manual)

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 25/12/2024 23:37

I don't think an 8 year old child will be able to keep track of more than 5 minutes of it and I very much doubt they'll take any of it in. But why an adult would even consider putting it on with kids around beats me. I learned more about meaningful relationships from Bluey, personally

Otterparty · 25/12/2024 23:37

It’s actually a form of abuse exposing kids to sexual scenes/themes when they’re too young.
id be worried for the child too.

Areolaborealis · 25/12/2024 23:37

Would you be happy if she described what she'd watched to her teacher or re-enacted the scenes with friends?

TwilightAb · 25/12/2024 23:35

Absolutely way too young. Why would an 8 year old even want to watch it? I know mine wouldn't.

Incognitoburrito88 · 25/12/2024 23:35

I’m super liberal with what I let my kids watch - watched deadpool with my 13 and 15 yr olds last week. No way I’d watch SATC with an 8 yr old. Aside from anything else I think they’d be bored by it. It’s an adult programme with adult themes.

Superfastconnection · 25/12/2024 23:35

I feel sad for the child, although maybe it will all go over their head

OP posts:
Greycheck · 25/12/2024 23:35

Absolutely and I'd be really worried to be around anyone who wanted to expose such a young child to those themes...

Mmhmmn · 25/12/2024 23:35

Obviously.

I mean most of it will go over their head but it’s deeply inappropriate for an 8 year old. Try the Lion King or Frozen.

Yes I have and yes I think it’s too young, but I’ve been made to feel like I’m a prude.

Be interesting to hear who thinks you're a prude for not letting your 8 Yr old watch this programme?

You certainly aren't a prude, just someone with boundaries.

StaySpicy · 25/12/2024 23:34

There are some fairly graphic nude 'sex' scenes. 8 is way too young.

TheaBrandt · 25/12/2024 23:34

Felt guilty watching it with my 16 year old!

dont doubt yourself.
whooever is trying to make you feel like a prude has seriously warped idea of what’s okay.

its not okay to expose young children to adult content. I’d be worried about their decisions not your own

Turophilic · 25/12/2024 23:33

Christ yes! Oral sex, rampant rabbits… it’s not exactly Year Three playground conversion fodder

doodleschnoodle · 25/12/2024 23:32

Good grief! 8?!

Op have YOU ever watched SATC? If so then I think you know the answer is absolutely yes 8 is too young.

Otterparty · 25/12/2024 23:29

This has to be a wind up?
but just in case of course it’s too young!!!
16+ or 18+ I’d say.

ClarasSisters · 25/12/2024 23:28

Yes. Hth.

AgathaLioness · 25/12/2024 23:28
