Why the fucking fuck have we had massive fireworks for the last twenty minutes on Christmas fucking day?!

Why? We have had solid bangs for the last twenty minutes - who the hell goes out on CHRISTMAS DAY at 4.30pm for fucking fireworks?

I'm at my mum's and will probably now have to spend boxing day in the emergency vet if it's similar at home, because my cats don't cope well with fireworks and I stupidly assumed Christmas day was not a day for fireworks displays.

Edit for time!

11.30pm-12am last night

I was so pissed off, was just drifting off. Woke my 4month old baby too, you can imagine how thrilled i was

Luckily the dog is so old he can't really hear them anymore

jannier · 25/12/2024 20:56

Here it's been 3 or 4 times a week since Diwali

Round my way, it means the new drugs are in so you can text your dealer. Is that not a thing in other areas?

Do you also live in Teesside/Middlesbrough because same 😂😂

It's Christmas and time to be joyful. We always have house fireworks after Christmas dinner and love it! The louder the better to celebrate this time of year !

If you live in the back of beyond knock yourself out. If you live in a populated area maybe have some consideration for other people who might not have the same enthusiasm. Especially on whats a stressful day for many.

EllieRosesMammy · 25/12/2024 20:53

Honestly people are just inconsiderate wankers and seem to be 100x worse on Christmas.

My neighbours are currently blasting kareoke. We live in terraced houses, why do people think it's okay?!

VegTrug · 25/12/2024 20:49

@Meandhimtogether Still selfish. Setting fireworks off 'in memory of....' is just an excuse to make a noise. It still terrifies animals, children & elderly with dementia

Why? It could just as easily be because it's christmas

Because fireworks are not associated at all with Christmas, whereas Hanukkah is a ‘festival of light’ and fireworks are sometimes used. Not often. But with it being the first day, it was just a thought!

Veterans? Not sure there are many left who faced active combat in the Second World War. Not sure someone’s else’s cats stress related cystitis would even occur to me

Yes because there have famously been no wars since WW2

VegTrug · 25/12/2024 20:47

@Bogginsthe3rd Aren't you selfish and don't you just love that about yourself? Yep! Course you do

God what a fuss. I quite like a firework

So do I but some people clearly don't.

Apparently, their dogs are the prime consideration.

Twats.

We had them going off last night at about 1am.

1am?!?!? I'm pretty sure that's illegal

CruCru · 25/12/2024 20:43

There’s no reason to have fireworks for Chanukah. You light a candle on the menorah but that’s about it. It isn’t like Diwali, where they do have fireworks (at least in India).

VegTrug · 25/12/2024 20:43

Oh that's bloody selfish. Even as a kid I remember being horrified that any grown up could buy explosives capable of killing people. Hopefully they'll eventually be banned outside of organised displays! 🤞🏻

Some people like fireworks, some people don't. The people who don't like them always seem to imagine that their dislike should be prioritised by people who don't know them and don't share their perspective. Not sure why

Edited

I actually don't think this, I just think given the nature of fireworks it would be nice to have a bit of warning on days where it's unexpected, is all.

And I grew up within hearing distance of weekly tests of the Broadmoor siren so it's not that I'm not used to loud noises, I just think it's a bit antisocial to create extended loud noise without warning on a day when a lot of people will not be expecting it.

Am now home and one cat is unsettled and the other one is fine so I am hopeful we didn't have quite such a massive display here, if at all, and I can perhaps avoid spending tomorrow in the emergency vet with them for stress related cystitis (which is what always happens if they are home alone when fireworks happen - I can only make sure this doesn't happen if I know when fireworks will be, and I know I'm not the only one who has to do this).

Hmm - in two minds. Personally I love fireworks but hearing that veterans might be traumatised makes me think twice.

I think with the Happy Holiday message , fireworks at Christmas will become more rather than less common in the future

We did too, about 5pm, really loud.

Yep we do. When your sibling kills themselves due to fireworks, you might too. HTH.

MrsR87 · 25/12/2024 20:25

There were some here at just after midnight last night that lasted for 15 mins or so. Me and DH had just gotten into bed after finishing putting all the presents out and sneaking the stockings into our 4 and 2 year olds rooms. I was so mad and worried that they were going to wake up and see them! Luckily they didn’t 😊

TheHateIsNotGood · 25/12/2024 20:04

Thought my dog was being a bit of an arsehole but then realized there was a firework-related explanation for dog barkiness.

Wasn't aware that xmas day was celebrated with fireworks but I guess it was just some peeps being them.

cuteyfluff · 25/12/2024 20:04

hilariousnamehere · 25/12/2024 19:25

Weirdly no, north Essex! Never had them before at Xmas and have been here last 12 Christmas days, except last year I missed because I was too ill to drive.

Maybe it is Hannukah 🤷‍♀️

Does it matter? Just accept that someone has a reason for setting fireworks off today
