To be totally and utterly fed up?

I have flu - proper flu, not a bad cold. I feel like absolute and utter crap.

My sister is hosting me and our parents for Christmas day and has been utterly awful towards me for the last couple of days because I'm really struggling. Highlights include "I'm wallowing in self pity" and "I'm fucking ruining Christmas by being so soft"

She has a cold and keeps snapping at me that she's not well either. I've cried more over the past few days than I have in ages with her. Not even sure why I'm posting, just need to vent I guess.

Just to be clear - I wanted to stay home. Sister was demanding go to hers.

And you're an adult, you say no you're not feeling well and will stay home today.

Seems like there's a lot more going on with you crying and being this distraught.

chaosmaker · 25/12/2024 15:56

@QuestionableMouse I'd leave as soon as possible. If you've taken your parents over then you've done your bit. Go home and sweat it out. xmas is just one day in the grand scheme of things and health is much more important.

Stay at home! It's doing a number on lots of people and you need to rest.

I've had it for 3 weeks now. It's not as bad as it was but I've been in tears. I've got constant headaches, sneezing and my teeth hurt now. I'm also exhausted even after sleeping all night.

AInightingale · 25/12/2024 15:05

You posted on my thread about the flu the other day I think. It really is a lousy one. You won't even be hungry. I felt sick all day yesterday and it's laid me very low emotionally as well. Just have a cup of tea with them if you really have to be social, keep your distance, go home!

you are a grown up - you could have said "no". You should have said "no"

Go home if she's an arse. Who cares if it upsets her? she clearly doesn't care about upsetting you

Roselilly36 · 25/12/2024 15:04

Stay at home.

WishinAndHopin · 25/12/2024 14:58

You and your sister are both unreasonable for spreading your viruses. This will be your New Years gifts to everyone.

Neveranynamesleft · 25/12/2024 14:46

Your sister is outnumbered by the number of people on here telling you to go home. You are an adult, you are not well, stop dithering and go home and look after yourself. Leave the rest of them to it.

Just to be clear: you are a grown up. Act like one: Stop being a martyr, stop risking infecting everyone else, take some ownership, stop wallowing in self pity and go home.

suki1964 · 25/12/2024 14:37

Sorry but with flu you should have stayed home

Proper flu, you cant even sit up let alone stick a smile on the chops and eat

Get to your bed, just ask for fluids and paracetamol to be on the bedside and go and wallow . Im not being nasty, but seriously flu is as bad as it gets without dying - if you are lucky.

Theres christmases ahead, write this one off and look after yourself

I genuinely can't remember feeling this unwell on absolutely ages.

So you need to stay home.

Completelyjo · 25/12/2024 14:36

She’s probably annoyed you’ve been too ill to help but not too ill to stay home. Convenient.

Wonderi · 25/12/2024 14:34

I’m sorry you’re feeling so poorly.

It sounds like you have the type of family that if you don’t go you’ll be blamed for ruining Xmas.

What’s your mum like?

If you go, then just try and put on a brave face and eat as much of her food as possible 😁
Then go home and don’t visit her again for a while.

I hope you don’t have much planned over the next few days.

AskingForAFriend10 · 25/12/2024 14:33

Screw her. Stay at home.

I had the flu end of November. I have never been so ill for so long. For two days, I was in the bed, couldn't even watch a telly.

I couldn't take care of my toddler, I was dead. It took two weeks to feel normal again.

She can demand all she wants. You do what is best for you.

Jewell25 · 25/12/2024 14:29

There’s no way you should be going round there with flu. You need to stay at home & rest. I’d be really annoyed if I had a visitor with obvious flu as I wouldn’t want to catch it.

Why do you have to do what she says?

Norder · 25/12/2024 14:23

I mean this nicely, but you should be at home resting if you have flu.
You shouldn't be visiting others to spread it to them, I wouldn't have a visitor with flu in the house. I caught it in my early 20s, usually fit and healthy, and was still absolutely floored, no way would I be risking anyone else catching it, especially parents if older. I don't think I could have gone visiting with it anyway, didn't have the will or energy.

But she's not your boss. Why didn't you decline and stay in bed like an ill person can and should. If you go along with her, you're perpetuating the whole problem.

I’d be very pissed off if you came round with flu. The sister on my mum’s ward told me she should isolate for 5 days (planning to go to family today for the big meal, 20 people, including elderly vulnerable and very young). I told the family it was a terrible idea but point now moot as the doctor wouldn’t discharge her.

I think, very unfortunately, I gave my boss flu or whooping cough (according to her dr) last week. Didn’t realise I was quite so unwell.

MumChp · 25/12/2024 14:17

Go home. Not worth it.

How is she going to enforce her demand? The police don't come out for things like that. Seriously, stay at home and get better.

What's the worst that can happen if you say no? If you do as she says, she could catch what you've got and it sounds as if she's not very well anyway. Does she want to be as poorly as you?

But you're going to pass it on to your parents by choosing not to stay home?
I don't understand.
