It’s just DH and I. Kids are all grown up. What do you do all day? We’re just sat watching sky news and it feels a bit like a normal Sunday. It’s sunny outside and it all feels a bit weird!
interested to hear what other couples with no kids so on Christmas Day

So, so sorry for your loss.

Lie in and then presents in the morning. Something posh for breakfast. Then start making the Xmas lunch with Xmas music playing. Open some drinks, cocktails and champagne, eat. Listen to some music, chat etc. Cheese and nibbles for evening meal. Light a fire and either continue listening to music or watch a xmas film.

Depending on how we feel and the weather will maybe do a walk or play some board games. We didn't do that this year though.

I like it quiet, low stress and chilled with lots of lovely food and drink we wouldn't normally have.

We’ve got grown up kids. We’ve been on a long dog walk then went for a swim & sauna at the local health club. Came back & made a lasagne & are now watching grease on tv.

Well my 21 year old daughter passed away suddenly 7 weeks ago, our 23 year old daughter went down south with her boyfriend (I insisted she go) so just DH and I.

Up early and took the dogs for a big run and swim. Dropped them back home and went to the cemetery with some flowers for DD. Lots of people there.
Home for a cooked breakfast and a nap. Went out for an hour to visit a friend.
Home for another nap ( grief is truly exhausting) DH took dogs for another run while I cleaned up a bit. Then quick dinner, hot bath and bed.

I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️❤️

My boyfriend and I have been to the pub for a drink while our teens (we don't live together) have been sleeping or my daughter has been to work. I'm going to do my jigsaw puzzle once the kitchen is cleaned up.

Badburyrings · 26/12/2024 14:09

@LoudPlumDog I am so sorry about the loss of your daughter.

LoudPlumDog · 26/12/2024 04:05

Thank you everyone
I made it through the day relatively okay, so that was good.

CoastalCalm · 25/12/2024 16:39

Just me DH and DDog , has been nice and relaxing but despite me asking DH to pace himself on the morning snowballs and beers (I’m not drinking) he is currently asleep - secretly don’t mind but I did ask him not to leave me alone as missing rest of my family who are having lunch together. I had to decline as recovering from surgery.

ZippyDoodle · 25/12/2024 16:01

Just DH and I today for the first time ever. We had a couple of presents then a very nice dinner. Sitting here drinking Prosecco and watching tv. We're going to have Chrstmas pud a bit later. Planning to watch Wallace and Gromit and Gavin and Stacey later.

I have worked flat out for the last week and I'm completely knackered. I'm quite happy not to see anyone.

More tv, walk and cheese and wine planned for tomorrow.

Pretty dull really but we're happy.

CurlewKate · 25/12/2024 16:01

Us! We're having a lovely time. Nice food and wine and we're going to start on Rivals later. Full disclosure- we're having a second Christmas with the adult children in a couple of days time, so it's only delayed. Not sure how I'd feel if this was my only Christmas Day......

dimthelights · 25/12/2024 15:43

It's just me, DH and the dogs today! We don't have children. Hosting the whole family for Boxing Day tomorrow which I am looking forward to...

Today started with a dog walk and DH is now making Christmas dinner while I watch tv. It feels like a special day but probably quite quiet compared to people who have children. I really look forward to it - one day where I can just relax eat nice food and not have to worry about much. Just me and DH.

GettingStuffed · 25/12/2024 15:33

All 3 of us are adults, we had smoked salmon ( posh fron M&s) scrambled eggs and bucks fizz for breakfast we've had tapas for lunch and DS and I are watching The Italian Job whilst DH is snoring his head off.

Dinner is paella.

KimberleyClark · 25/12/2024 15:25

Just had a lovely Christmas lunch. DH has taken guest dog for a walk and we’ll open presents when he gets back.

Lottapianos · 25/12/2024 15:23

'The best Christmases have been spent away in a European city - in Vienna, Venice and Amsterdam you can go to an art gallery on 25th, which is absolutely the best way to spend the day.'

I often thought of this, but assumed that everything would be shut and it would be a bit miserable!

Your day sounds gorgeous by the way 👍

We don't have kids. We have got up, had pugs in blankets for breakfast, been for a local walk and now watching shit tv. We are going to my mums for dinner later. No it's not a hugely magical day but it's nice just to hang out together without work etc.

Fabulous typo in second sentence. Must have taken a lot of bacon to wrap them.

Broadband · 25/12/2024 15:21

Taken the dog for a lovely long walk (great weather here), home for breakfast and chill out watching a soppy film on Netflix. Opened a few presents and saved a few for later, now cooking dinner with a G&T and we will open remaining gifts afterwards. Very chilled and nice.

Cynic17 · 25/12/2024 15:21

Never had kids, always just the two of us. Just relax, read books, listen to the radio, bottle of champagne, snacks for lunch, bit of a sleep. Husband did go on a bike ride first thing.
Just a quiet day, no big deal.

'We TTC 12 yrs, lost 3 and have no living children'

I am so deeply sorry. I wish you nothing but peace for the coming year ❤️

JC03745 · 25/12/2024 14:52

We TTC 12 yrs, lost 3 and have no living children. DH presented me with a bucks fizz when I came downstairs today. We have a single friend coming around for lunch and staying tonight. Might take the dog for a walk later and watch TV, but otherwise no specific plans.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/12/2024 14:52

I'm so sorry about your daughter @LoudPlumDog Flowers

Jazzabel · 25/12/2024 14:50

It’s just me this year. Dd1 is with her boyfriend’s family and dd2 is at my parents with some other relatives. I’ve got that nasty flu thing that’s going around and whilst I’m coming out the other side of it, a lot of this year has been so tiring and draining that I don’t have the mental or physical energy to put on a happy face and join everyone today. I’m sure they don’t want my germs anyway. Will catch up with everyone over the next week when I feel better. Currently watching the grinch under a blanket and feeling an affinity towards him.

Kitkat1523 · 25/12/2024 14:48

Kids all grown and flown
DD and 2 GD will be round about 4pm but up to then just chilling the 2 of us…..Xmas tunes on Alexa…..,log burner lit……DP has made Xmas dinner , going in eat in about 15 mins…..phoned my mum earlier, will see her at new year….phoned both my sons…..will watch to when DD leaves ….. it’s just a day really🤷‍♀️

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/12/2024 14:46

Ha ha @Nothatgingerpirate
I was wondering about the pugs in blankets too !

We are just me and DH for the day time . A bit of a cheat as DS and his partner will come round in the evening.

We've done presents and had our lunch. Had a lovely surprise main present I wasn't expecting as DH had already bought some expensive concert tickets I wanted for next year and that was meant to be the main present.

Just chilling now and will pop the dog out again before it gets dark.

I think that if we were going to be by ourselves completely all day we'd probably go away somewhere to make it more of a special day. We're both retired so the day off at home is our norm.

Oh dear, pugs in blankets?
What an ample breakfast!
