Christmas cancelled

Feeling very sorry for myself! Had family coming over today for Christmas, I've spent ages preparing food, games, the usual - they've cancelled last minute as they're ill.

It can't be helped and I'm not upset with the family at all, just really disappointed to be spending Christmas alone 😔

I was wondering whether you could cook then deliver their meals, just an idea

Sounds like a lovely idea if its possible.

Sorry op but if they are happy enough to collect the food, take it home and eat it together without you.... Then that is taking the royal piss. Surely they could take you with them and eat together? At least give you the option if you want to go and risk catching it.

Tiddlywinkly · 25/12/2024 08:27

ALL of them are sick? Hmm....
If they have form for this, no way would I cook for them.
Also - headachy? No D&V? Crap excuse

I’m not being funny OP but ‘head achey and achey’ is not a reasonable excuse to cancel Christmas! They are not going to be bed ridden especially with small children in the mix so they are just deciding to have Christmas (albeit probably a paracetamol sponsored one) at your parents house and exclude you! On top of that they’ve decided to graciously use you as a take out service.

I wonder what they’d say if you said you felt a bit achey too and would just come over to them and spend the day there with them!

This is exactly what the OP should do!

Packetofcrispsplease · 25/12/2024 08:22

Aw no xx 😘 I would say to come to us but I don’t know where you live xxx 😘
what to do is postpone the usual festivities/ meal .
see what you can freeze or what has a long enough date to be used later this week ?
we are having a quiet one because family are too busy / spread out via the UK / overseas .
just 3 of us plus dog 🐶

Hecatoncheires · 25/12/2024 08:17

Another shout of do not cook for them! OP, they are treating you very badly. Can you see this? Handy for them all being together. Truth is that they can’t be arsed coming over to you. I’m very sorry that you’re being shat on like this. Hope you have a good day, whatever you end up doing.

Notsuchafattynow · 25/12/2024 08:17

Maybe I've no xmas spirit, but if they are well enough to eat they are well enough to come over to you.

You're not a caterer!

StarlightStalagmite · 25/12/2024 08:14

Definitely a piss take to cancel then expect you to still cook for them and come collect dinner so they all eat without you.

Inertia · 25/12/2024 08:06

They are shockingly rude. Can’t be arsed to come to you but still demanding dinner, refusing to allow you to go to them.

I’d be freezing the food and telling them you have decided not to cook , and just have a day of eating cheese and crackers, mince pies and panettone.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 25/12/2024 07:57

Can you not go to theirs?

I get that they're ill, but they're apparently not too ill to come over and pick up a Christmas dinner to eat.

If I were them the least I'd do is ask you to come over with the food so you weren't on your own.

Aah sorry OP, I hope you manage to have a lovely day anyway.

FWIW I think it's a bit shit of your family given you were prepared to risk it. If they had norovirus or similar fair enough they'd all feel to rough to move or have company but just a bit achey and headachey surely they could take a couple of ibuprofen and tough it out for the meal at least. L

KhakiOrca · 25/12/2024 07:56

Are you seriously gonna cook for them to pick up? They are treating you like a fool!

I am finding it hard to believe that you are going to be cooking for six people who won’t even be there and notr have you been invited there??
come on now! Put it in the freezer and tell BIL to get a takeaway.

biscuitsandbooks · 25/12/2024 07:56

If you still cook for them then you're a mug OP, sorry, but you are.

I'd be telling them that you're not going to the effort of cooking a big meal when nobody is there to enjoy it.

LizziesTwin · 25/12/2024 07:45

Anyone who’s on their own, check and see if your local parkrun is taking place. You don’t have to run the 5km and you’ll be welcomed. Lots of friendly people, you don’t even need to register if you just feel like turning up.

Any of the parkruns that are on today will have volunteer parkwalkers whose job it is to stroll round the course with anyone who wants some company. No need to run at all. You'd be made welcome.

YouCanKeepHimJolene · 25/12/2024 07:48

Ooft, OP, please do not cook for them. Make a few nice bits for yourself today and spend the rest of the day relaxing. I wouldn't be entertaining their cheeky fuckery. Shocking behaviour from them.

ThejoyofNC · 25/12/2024 07:48

Tell them you've cancelled the dinner and they'll be collecting cold turkey sandwiches. So they cancel a few hours before and leave you to spend the day alone but still want their bloody dinner?!

cookingthebooks · 25/12/2024 07:48

FannyFernackerpants · 25/12/2024 07:48

Do they have form for leaving you out OP?
How convenient that they are all gathered in one place but just happen to get a 'headache' severe enough that they can't travel but doesn't affect them eating.
No bloody way would I be spending today cooking for them, I would salvage as much food as possible and freeze it and the rest (veg etc) I would chop up and take to the woods on my walk and let the birds/mice/squirrels have it!

That's really shitty OP. They're a bit achey? I'd have checked you were ok with us still coming and then just dosed myself up!
If they had D&V then fair enough but not a bloody headache!
I wouldn't be cooking for them. I'd freeze it and postpone.
I hope you'll have a peaceful day regardless Flowers
