DH and the 3 hour nap

AIBU to be absolutely fuming (lighthearted) at DH for coming home from work today then taking a 3 hour (so far) nap. 4 DC under 5 wondering when he's joining us for Christmas. Just me then!

Is it lighthearted or not? Are you angry? Why post? Does he have form for this?

Endofyear · 24/12/2024 23:22

I'd have sent the children in to jump on him after an hour! Then I'd say, I've just got to nip out now so you're in charge of the kids and take myself off to Costa for an hour for a hot chocolate and cheese toasties 😁

Mine too. He was up at 5:30 for work, physical hospital job and children are older 10 & 14. But I've been running round doing all the prep and cleaning today and he fucked off for a nice long nap! He's just appeared for dinner.

He's not usually so thoughtless and we're a team. I think maybe struggling as it's out second Xmas without his mum.

I'm hoping at least if he's had a nap he'll be refreshed and ready for Santa duties later, which is basically the middle of the night with older kids!

feathermucker · 24/12/2024 17:54

Tell me you sent the kids in by now at least!!!!!!

If he didn’t come down straight away, either wake him again yourself or send the children.

Yeah, I don't get threads like this. Why would you just be fuming and posting on MN about it? Just go get him up if needed? Don't get what the big deal is.

Gcsunnyside23 · 24/12/2024 17:43

I'd already be up there loudly banging stuff

Sunshineclouds11 · 24/12/2024 17:42

I'd be livid

Mashroom · 24/12/2024 17:38

Very selfish man

biscuitsandbooks · 24/12/2024 17:36

I don't think this is particularly lighthearted tbh, he's taking the piss.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/12/2024 17:35

Mines asleep too but in his defence he did drive us 250 miles last night and then had to be in work for 9am.

Woke him after an hour, he said he would be down in a minute....

ginasevern · 24/12/2024 17:29

I expect he's had a few to drink. It's pretty standard (or it used to be not that long ago) to decamp to the pub on Christmas Eve when you finish early. He's sleeping it off.

Silverfoxlady · 24/12/2024 17:28

It may be a little inconsiderate, but what if he is coming down with something? If this isn’t a regular thing, then it might just be a one off late night / sick nap. Maybe he can make it up to you by wrapping presents late or prepping food for tomorrow? He will be full on energy when he wakes (if not sick)!

I love my naps. Wish I could have a 3 hour one too..

MrsTigerface · 24/12/2024 17:19

I think he’s being incredibly inconsiderate. Sure he’s tired, but I bet you are too. An hour’s nap should have been restorative enough for him.

If it’s any consolation, he may well not sleep terribly soundly tonight after such a long nap, but that’ll serve him right.

twohotwaterbottles · 24/12/2024 17:15

Has he actually forgotten he has children to parent? How unattractive and selfish.

Iamnotalemming · 24/12/2024 17:04

Not quite the same but my DH cleared off to the shops for 3 hours this afternoon leaving me alone with toddler and Christmas prep because he didn't like the sound of what I was planning to cook tonight and had forgotten to get the one type of chocolate his mother had asked for her stocking. He's home now and 'relaxing'. Although I've told him I'm going for a run and he needs to feed toddler. Can you just put all children in bedroom with him and go for a walk?

CaneToad · 24/12/2024 17:04

God, the jammy bastard. I would bloody love a long nap.

Blueberrymuffin8 · 24/12/2024 17:00

Fuming and lighthearted is an oxymoron

Patienceinshortsupply · 24/12/2024 17:00

That's why God invented the airhorn.

Open the bedroom door, put all the kids in there with him and take a few hours to yourself.

This

Themaths · 24/12/2024 16:56

Bananadeckchair · 24/12/2024 16:43

Nope. Normal office job. Half day today for Christmas

Does he think because he had a half day that the time off is his time and he shouldn't have to do anything in the house?

MimiGC · 24/12/2024 16:54

Shiningout · 24/12/2024 16:52

I'd have got his arse up way before the three hour mark

batsandeggs · 24/12/2024 16:52

Four under 5?! I’d be fuming. But I’d have also woken him up again.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 24/12/2024 16:51

You'll get LOADS of people here saying, wake him. Don't be a martyr etc.

Last Christmas day, my DH took a "nap" after brunch/presents that lasted till 6pm. At which point dinner was ruined and my then 1 year old and I ate alone, not quite what I'd expected. I posted here and honestly was amazed at the responses about how I was being a martyr and I should be more understanding bla bla

Yes, he may be tired. But do you know what. So are all parents at this time of year. He naps through most the day today, he's on washing up and bin duty til new year. And you get some down time without the kids.
