To hope these antibiotics work before tomorrow

DD (5.5) just got diagnosed with chest infection after high fever lasting from Thursday-Saturday, cough, one bout of diarrhoea and overall not being happy, hasn't ate anything today, thought we was seeing an improvement yesterday but woke up today coughing her lungs up as she was all night and crying and not wanting to move. And was even falling asleep on me in the GP office.

Took her to GP who prescribed penicillin for chest infection ( first time needing antibiotics ) I may have just had a little cry because I'm so sad she won't be able to enjoy any part of the day tomorrow.

DH is exactly the same but older and much more capable of putting on a face for a couple hours.

In anyone else's experience is there any chance of improvement by tomorrow morning?

Will be giving all 3 doses today even though she will have to be woke up for the last one.

Is currently sleeping now.

My DS has just recovered from a chest infection too OP. It’s tough, we seem a slight improvement by his 3rd dose, he had 3 a day. I hope your DD is better soon and is able to enjoy her Christmas.

A five year will be expecting gifts tomorrow. Delaying gifts will feel like punishing them for being ill. It normal takes 40+ hours for antibiotics to work so I would plan on a low key day for tomorrow.

Delaying might be a good idea to give them more time to work! For what it’s worth though she may be feeling better tomorrow, I had an awful chest infection in October and had antibiotics, I did feel significantly better after taking all of them for the first full day so it’s possible! X

Christmas movies and cuddles sounds perfect. Maybe write her a get well soon letter from Santa on top of her presents hoping she’ll enjoy them when she’s better.

That's such a sweet idea!

If she's still feeling ropey can you just celebrate Christmas a day or so later?

Talkabtit101 · 24/12/2024 13:07

@Cornettoninja

I did say this to DH, I might leave it until Boxing Day and just make tomorrow about Christmas movies, as she's been very excited and it's her first year understanding what is 100% going on.

We have no family coming around either and have cancelled all events as we've been ill and haven't wanted to infect anyone else, so maybe a delayed Christmas.

@ApparentlyRockBottomHasABasement

Ooooof aren't you a small minded little person, there's always one on each thread.

Hmm, do you think it was my happiness that took her to the Gp office this morning? Bore off, I'm clearly worried about her hence why I'm sat with her right now whilst she sleeps and making sure she's drinking and weeing, making sure her head is elevated and her breathing is fine.

I won't be apologising for being bothered that my happy little girl who has looked forward to Christmas for so long is now sad and unhappy and won't be able to enjoy her day.

I can't find anywhere in my post that says " I'm so happy she has a chest infection I'm just really sad she won't enjoy Christmas "

Keep your shitty words to yourself. Cheers.

Odd that you are sad she won’t be able to ‘enjoy the day’ rather than ‘worried DD is so unwell’.
It’s just a day, it’s not more important than a her feeling so dreadful she’s asleep whilst being at the Drs.

D’you think she’s got enough brain capacity to worry about both? Back off.

@Talkabtit101 fingers crossed that she perks up quickly but if not don’t be too fixated on the date. If she’s not well enough for presents or food let her take it at her own pace and have a delayed day when she’s up to it.
