To think Chris Rea’s family should drive to him one Christmas?

Poor guy. Every. Bloody. Year.

Wouldn’t it be nice, just for once, if they drove over to him so that he could have the day off from being stuck in the annual traffic jam on the Road to Hell?

Top to toe in tailbacks when he could be at home, sleeves rolled up, stuffing the Turkey with a nice glass of Rioja on the sideboard with his name on.

C’mon guys. Do the right thing. Drive over to Chez Chris this year.

But "it's been so long" apparently so maybe they usually drive to him and it's his turn!

What puzzles me is he takes a look at the driver next to him and declares he's 'just the same'. In what way? How does he know where he's going? He might be driving to work/his mistress/a party/shopping etc!

YABU. He's driving home. He needs to get better organised and not go so far away on Christmas eve (or whenever).
So many people manage to get their shopping done in good time every year without having to write a song about it!
<lighthearted, I really enjoy this song>

I always think that the last thing Mary wanted after she’d just given birth and them presumably got her baby settled, is a bloody drummer boy turning up and “ playing his drum for him!”

YABU, he is driving HOME. Maybe he has been working, perhaps on an oil rig in the North Sea? Or away spending the week with his secret second family? Might be a bit awkward if everyone turns up there for some festive fun.
