A friend just told me their budget for each other is £500. The same last year. I couldn’t imagine spending that much on each other, it seems so wasteful.

£150 on each other and £250 on each child.

Nothing. We go out for a meal/day trip together instead, or get something we need for the house.

SJM1988 · 24/12/2024 11:16

We don't set a budget but I usually spend £100 from me then another £100 from the children. Plus about £50 on the stocking

This year I think I'm under that as I got good deal on things he wanted.

My DH spent £500 on a KitchenAid mixer and accessories one year for me (very traumatic and hard year). It wasn't wasteful at all and a present I still enjoy several years later.

TTPDTS · 24/12/2024 11:16

More than that, we can afford it and we buy each other things we like and want. Not really wasteful if the money is affordable / the gifts are wanted.

Disgustin · 24/12/2024 11:16

We send around £250 on each other. We also send each other lists so it's we get what we want. My idea as I hate surprises

Thewrongdoor · 24/12/2024 11:15

About £30.

PietariKontio · 24/12/2024 11:15

Depending on our finances over the years, it's varied between £20 and £600. We usually spend the same on each other as we do on the kids. 'Wasteful" is a weird concept to have about spending money on someone you love?

Parker231 · 24/12/2024 11:14

When we got married we agreed we wouldn’t buy each other a Christmas present (we buy ourselves whatever we want throughout the year) but would spend money on a holiday together each January. We’ve followed this tradition now for 30 years.

ueberlin2030 · 24/12/2024 11:14

Nothing.
We get what we need when we need it or save up for it..
If I'm spending that amount of money I'd rather choose what to spend it on.
Each to their own though.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 24/12/2024 11:13

However much the gift I choose for him costs, within reason.

I'd say this year it's around £300

dizzydizzydizzy · 24/12/2024 11:13

I used to spend about £100 when I had a DP.

IamSmarticus · 24/12/2024 11:12

Why is it wasteful? If they can afford it and want to spend that much on each other then that's fine.

TheWonderhorse · 24/12/2024 11:12

Nothing. We have three kids and money is tight. Right now, Christmas is for the kids.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 24/12/2024 11:11

About £400 now. Was less when we had less. None of it is wasted though, it is all stuff he will like and use.
