You're stupid OP - HTH

I do know this is a pretty awful thing to think and extremely negative but I will quite often think it and have a little giggle to myself.

It isn't always the OP - it can be applied to many other posters

NB post menopausal here and the filters came off a while ago.

OP posts:
HardenYourHeart · 24/12/2024 10:39

Totally agree. We all need a little rude awaking from time to time. Often it's stuff we already know but are having a hard time admitting to ourselves.

Then again, there are also quite a few posters who love to stomp on people when they are down and it's not productive.

LittleRedYarny · 24/12/2024 10:39

YANBU with the exception of threads about randoms parked on people’s drives and the complete batshit crazy opinions/behaviours of specific family members at Christmas. I live for these threads (especially the parking ones!)

Snazzysausage · 24/12/2024 10:38

Oh lord. It's the
"my partner earns 3 times what I earn,we each deposit the same amount into a joint account and pay bills 50/50. We each have our own account, no idea what's in his. I work and do all the cleaning, life stuff, childcare, buy extras for the family, kids clothes etc. It's my house and we're not married. He's a fantastic dad and partner but aibu to ask him to pay a bit towards the Christmas expenses and maybe not play golf, football, go bike riding every single Sunday?"
It baffles me that these posters need it pointing out to them that they're living with a cocklodging moron.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/12/2024 10:34

call 111 rather than seek medical advice from a bunch of randoms based on a grainy photo

FizzyBisto · 24/12/2024 10:34

toomuchfaff · 24/12/2024 10:24

Or I have a small spot on the tip of my nose, it's been there for 4 years, should I go to A&E on Christmas Eve?

Not necessarily related, but that's just reminded me of the time I read about some people who took their hamster to the vet, having found a couple of lumps underneath at the back of his body, and were terrified that he might have cancer.

The vet examined him and immediately confirmed that they were his testicles!

So many people lack common sense these days.

The ones that annoy me the most are the regular "could I be pregnant" threads. They go into detail about dates they had sex and when they think they ovulated. Take a damn test and find out yourself! I often wonder how these people function in every day life.

Aah god those annoy me! And the ones that show a negative pregnancy test, with dates that mean they can’t possibly be pregnant.

”I last had sex six months ago, and have been having regular periods ever since. Last period finished about a week ago. Could I be pregnant? Here is a picture of a negative pregnancy test I did this morning, and the other five negative tests I did yesterday”

everyone: “ooh yes I see a faint line, the six “periods” you’ve had were probably all implantation bleeds, I had exactly the same with all 11 of my pregnancies, sending you baby dust!!!”

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 24/12/2024 10:33

They could. But then everyone would be banned, and there’d be no Mumsnet 🤣

FizzyBisto · 24/12/2024 10:30

Bbq1 · 24/12/2024 09:53

There are Op's who ask a really obvious question to which the answer/solution is glaringly obvious ti everyone reading it. I can also never understand somebody seeking advice from an online forum when their dc/dh is potentially seriously ill with worrying symptoms. Just go to A&E, don't ask MN if you should or what the medical issue may be!

"Sorry for any spelling errors, but my head has just been severed and is hanging off to the side - so I'm having to guess where the letters are on my phone keyboard. Is this serious, do you think? Has it happened to anybody else on here? Should I go to A&E or just try pouring some Calpol down where my neck probably should roughly be and get an early night?"

NormanBateslonglosttwin · 24/12/2024 10:28

Because so many peeps on these threads come across as really thick and having no brain cells. If you can earn £100k pa that would suggest you just might have some brains, but not always the case.
So as for the rest of us what hope is there? A lot of people are so reliant on apps now for the stupidest of things it's a wonder they don't get rewards for breathing.
Before anyone comes on to say about their kid in icu etc on breathing tubes, this is not about them as you well know so don't be that tit who mentions it.

FrozenLimeMargarita · 24/12/2024 10:27

ilovesooty · 24/12/2024 08:41

I think that's a good point. A lot of distressing situations do have their roots in communication difficulties I think.

But I find women are trained from an early age to be compliant, easy and amenable - so 'a conversation' FEELs like a confrontation.

A large part of communication issues (and the acceptance of poor behaviour) relates to the above, a overwhelming need to avoid confrontation in any form or someone being even the tiniest bit upset with them even if it is for a totally valid reason.

toomuchfaff · 24/12/2024 10:24

curious79 · 24/12/2024 08:32

The worst ones are ‘I am bleeding severely … my X has fallen off… should I go to A&E?’

Isn’t posting on mumsnet the last thing you think about when faced with a medical emergency?!

Or I have a small spot on the tip of my nose, it's been there for 4 years, should I go to A&E on Christmas Eve?

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 24/12/2024 10:22

I need to add a moan about posters who believe earning over £100k bestows god-like abilities on people.

”I can’t believe you earn £100k and you can’t [do some possibly trivial but slight niche thing]”

Usually tax related (because that’s usually when mention of salary is relevant), but could be anything really. Often used to imply that the OP is making everything up, including both their earning power and the issue.

Cantankerous curmudgeonly nincompoops.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2024 10:19

There was a self-help book years ago called Feel the fear and do it anyway. I often think of that when I see posts from people shaking and crying because the doorbell is ringing.

FOJN · 24/12/2024 10:17

FizzyBisto · 24/12/2024 09:47

Along with pullover(!), rigmarole and kerfuffle, may I also add ballyhoo into the mix?!

Is that hullabaloo?

tuvamoodyson · 24/12/2024 10:14

Read the other 110,000,000 million threads about child free weddings/sexless marriage/should I report this teacher/GP (insert profession of your choice)interfering MIL’s….the same half dozen subjects that go
round and round here. There truly is nothing new under the sun!

girlghostbusters · 24/12/2024 10:10

I find myself thinking that whether you are 32 or 62, an arsehole is an arsehole. Not an infrequent sight to find posters justifying being raging arseholes ("I just tell it like it is!" "No filters!" "I'm just direct/blunt/etc") based on something in their lives (having young DC, being menopausal, etc).

A reasonable person of any age is able to decipher that being unable to accommodate anyone else's opinions or needs, whilst respecting her own needs, is not particularly a crown to seek. Most of mumsnet are not like this, but the 0.5% are awfully vocal about being angry shut-ins who shun all society because their friend group, in-laws, parents, siblings, DC, have failed them in every way.

MostHighlyFlavoredGravy · 24/12/2024 10:00

It's not, it's palaver.

Lol I know that now don't I, I said 'I thought'

BlackeyedSusan · 24/12/2024 10:10

SparklyTurtle · 24/12/2024 08:13

Yep. Most of the time I think Google could have answered their question and there was no need for the polava of asking Mumsnet and waiting an hour for replies.

Yep.

I was tempted to ask Mumsnet this morning... Google much quicker. Perhaps it is the social side of asking here that helps. (I usually end up having to Google anyway if I do post in a panic)

FizzyBisto · 24/12/2024 10:07

Goodness, this thread: who would have ever thought there could be such a huge polenta palaver about the spelling of the word 'palaver'?!

Radishknot · 24/12/2024 10:07

But if people didn’t use this forum for advice, inane or not surely it wouldn’t exist?

Radishknot · 24/12/2024 10:06

I quite enjoy the “shall I go to A&E ones “ as you always get replies saying if you’re breathing & not dead you shouldn’t be going.

NormanBateslonglosttwin · 24/12/2024 10:02

So many peeps with stupid inane questions on aibu just need a quick kick up the arse and a tiny bit of common sense. Some of it is so stupid I can't help thinking 'how do they get through the day or even how they get out of bed in the morning?
The so called high fliers earning £100k a year but can't cope with the fact the local supermarket has had a mass sell out on some arty farty food.
If someone is ND or has problems they have mentioned anxiety / depression [I have severe mental health issues including bi polar and bpd] so I can understand that, but so many things are so stupid it's not real.

CraftyNavySeal · 24/12/2024 09:18

Google or ask the company you bought it from.

So many threads with people asking questions about Vinted/ebay/amazon/Royal Mail etc. How about asking the customer service people whose literal job it is to help you instead of random people on the internet, or even just reading what the respective websites say!

I can't comment on the other company's but Royal Mail have absolutely no customer service to their name, unless you wish to sit on hold for best part of an hour on the phone. Sometimes it is just easier to post here asking if someone has been in the same situation and what the resolution was.

FizzyBisto · 24/12/2024 10:00

Sharptonguedwoman · 24/12/2024 09:48

I tried to work it out before I looked it up. I got 'hard to hear' which isn't very different really.

At least you did take the time to look it up before using it.

Not like the folk who assume that LOL means 'lots of love'.

"Just to let you know: My Uncle Brian sadly passed away last night."
"LOL."

MostHighlyFlavoredGravy · 24/12/2024 10:00

MILLYmo0se · 24/12/2024 09:59

And I always thought it was palavar😂oh well, we all know what we mean

It's not, it's palaver.
