Conspiracy Theories part 2

A follow on thread as the first thread is full. This message is directed towards @Corinthiana

A few negative newspaper headlines made Diana unpopular? Nonsense. She remained a figure of profound importance internationally. She died over the summer - August. So she was on holiday. She was divorced and they shared arrangements with the boys. So she was on a yacht? Did you run her personal schedule to know that this was a sign of her prioritising her relationship over her sons as this is what you appear to be implying? Do you honestly think that the public reaction in the immediate aftermath of her death was due to her sudden post death elevation to sainthood as opposed to her enduring popularity during her life? What an illogical statement.

She was indeed a very complex woman but the fascination with her was boundless. You sound reductive and agenda driven. Greed? She was from a true blue blooded family - she famously said to Prince Philip 'my family is older than your's'.

Agreed .

Nah fk Harry. You cant do what he's done and be welcome back here.

This was awful. Those boys having to walk behind the coffin was truly unbearable. I will never be able to denigrate Harry for the trauma he suffered as a 12 year old boy. I hate the way he is treated by the media. He deserves peace and healing.

Agreed .

I just find it difficult to believe , several staff saw her on the 3rd of may at the club, last sighting was between 5-6pm. The adults had dinner at 8,30?
that leaves a maximum of two hours for everything to happen , the alleged accident then hatch a plan then be at dinner by 8,30
probably they were very relaxed with their arrangement the last couple of nights , perhaps all they did was stand by the closed door and listen to any noise? That whole arrangement if I remember from the Netflix doc , no one from their group wanted to recreate that evening , that’s in itself is strange.

There are many many intriguing aspects to the case, not least of which is the Smith sighting.

On the night of the disappearance, Irish holidaymakers Mr and Mrs Smith passed a man carrying a girl across the beach. They said the girl looked young, fair-haired, very pale and completely comatose. She was wearing light coloured pyjamas. Mrs Smith believes it was Gerry she saw. Mr Smith, who said he was 60-80% sure it was Gerry, stated that the man had beige trousers that buttoned at the sides - a singular item of clothing later seen worn by Gerry.

Mumsnet is a commercial social media platform. They are not the arbiter of truth or morality. They place a series of rules around what can and can't be posted to align with their commercial objectives and purported values.

No shit.

It was pretty crazy wasnt it and all before the advent of social media. The british stiff upper lip was gone and all kinds were publicly weeping in the streets more than they would cry for even their own mother. That was most bizarre.

Yes and the fact the young princes ,were trying to comfort complete strangers so weird .

I'm not making an argument - I am saying that I, personally, think discussing certain conspiracy theories can be fun to discuss and others less so. Alex Jones was basically, to me, a figure of fun who was sometimes more dangerous, and then slipped into truly horrific and personally-targeted topics.

And there's a reason why Mumsnet are pruning various of the posts about the McCanns and not doing the same for more frivolous theories.

Well you best tell Detective Amaral that he is now thrown into the same pool as Alex Jones then. Do you generally construct such straw man arguments or is this a special treat for us to show us how clever you are?

I made a post about the Obamas and you responded to me asking about the McCanns. I said that I didn't want to indulge in the McCann ones, as I find them disgusting, and you've been badgering me about it since.

You are funny. Have a great Christmas.

It's a bit like Alex Jones. A lot of his conspiracy theories were just loopy, others were (in my view) harmful, but he ultimately crossed a line in targeting the parents of murdered children.

I thought that this was a continuation to the thread about whether or not there are any conspiracy theories that you believe in (to which may answer, in broad terms is "no").

In the original thread, I was one of many non-beleivers. I hadn't realized that we weren't allowed to post.

I stuck around in the last thread largely because some people kept repeating the same lies over and over, and in part because some conspiracy theories (e.g. whether or not they moon landing occurred) are more enjoyable to discuss, to me, than some which are targeted at specific individuals.

Well I started this thread to convey my thoughts on Diana, Princess of Wales as a continuation of comments about her on the first thread. I can't help what people follow up on - be that the moon landing or anything else. The case of Madeline McCann was also discussed on the first thread. It is a legitimate matter of public interest given the millions spent on finding her and just by the very nature of the suspicions levied against her parents by the JP. I am not going to be told what I can and cannot comment on with regard to issues of public concern.

I was reading an interesting book about a conspiracy theorist who changed his mind on a conspiracy and accepted what people said had actually happened as truth.

His followers didn't like that.

They harassed him, sent fake porn of his relatives to his mother, harassed his employers. All because he changed his mind on a conspiracy

Do people actually believe the McCains very confidently committed a crime in another country and knew they will never get caught?
the Guilt of leaving their children instead of hiring a nanny will haunt them forever ,
as for the cadaver dogs, wasn’t if explained that these type of dogs pick up the scent of decaying body as recent as minutes after dying? .

If anything happened I don't think it was deliberate I think it was accidental but with a clear element of neglect. The cadaver dogs as I understand it, are particuarly and specifically highly trained to react to the smell of a deceased body. I don't understand the point you are making about the timing? I think the theory is that Gerry's bag was in the boot and this may have had contact with a deceased MMc. The detective said there were no signs of an abduction at the apartment and he was very very clear about this. Why did Kate McCann refuse to answer the police's 48 questions? What mother would not go to the ends of the earth and answer anything and everything to find their child?

So you are too intellectually superior to be commenting on a thread about conspiracy theories are you? Please direct me to the Michelle Obama accusations as I did not make anything I merely commented on some of the information available on this issue. I said I was intrigued by the timing of Joan Rivers' death - it is a comment based on something that is unusual. Why don't you try and calm down or have a cup of tea instead of getting worked up on threads about topics you claim to be too clever to indulge in?

I dont think they planned it, no but they had to deal with the consequences of their actions so with quick thinking they hatched a plan.

I'm allowed to think something disgusting without sending written notice to everyone that has ever partaken in it, you know.

Personally I think the Michelle Obama accusations are disgusting, too (and, as mentioned by others in the last thread, have an air of racism to them).

I do think that most conspiracy theorists are either unpleasant people, intellectually lacking, or both.

The intensity of grief was really weird though I think part of it was because whatever your thoughts about Diana as a,person she died tragically young and it was heartbresking to see the very real grief of Princes William and Harry.

Private Eye does not represent the populus of the UK. I went to Kensington Palace after she died and watched her funeral in Hyde Park. The intensity of grief was like nothing else. She was incredibly popular and that is why the press rebuked the Queen for not returning and lowering her flag - they tapped into the grief of the British public. I saw the video of the driver and he did not appear to be drunk. Why was she not wearing her seatbelt when she had a bodyguard and was known to be safety aware about it?
