I love him to bits but fuck me hes outdone himself this afternoon

Went out to pub and had a lovely time. Came home to him bashing into thing and staggering about with a nice pile of sick in the middle of the only rug we have (why do they always do that) quickly rush him to the vet who asks what he ate. He ate bread dough and vommed it all back up. The yeast was fermenting in his stomach and he was effectively drunk.

They could feel something in his tummy so he was sedated and x rayed. He had coins in his intestine and a Lego action man. So he's had emergency surgery today and has cost me &
£1600. He'd eaten 27p in coins fuck knows how or when!

How old is the dog you ask? 17 years old no shits given.

He also chewed off the vets shoe lace when he was brought back to me as the vet was telling me what he had removed from his stomach. He didn't swallow that thank God.

Crikey dogs are the stupidest pet known to mankind. Makes you wonder how they would have survived in the wild to be honest or whether they would have died out with the dodo. Cute and fluffy but brain the size of a pea. Still they manage to make their owners pick up their poo (usually) so there must be something going on up there. Cute and fluffy has a lot to answer for.

This post has both cheered me up as I am obviously not the only one with a greedy dog (yes, labrador) and depressed me as he is only 18 months and I hoped he would grow out of it - obviously not! The microwave is bolted to the counter and has child locks, as does the food cupboard and fridge!

GoldFawn · 21/12/2024 09:03

Love him!! Ur post made me chuckle, he's adorable.

crowsfeet57 · 21/12/2024 08:56

I love your dog. He's brilliant! I speak as someone with a 9 stone newfoundland puppy, who I found wandering round the garden with a christmas cracker in his mouth the other day!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 21/12/2024 08:55

Oh Simon - Grin. That is such a good name, well done OP.

And the dog that ate the full poo bag and pooed it out whole, ewww. But also 🤣

Our family sprocker years ago once rummaged in a bag that a visitor left by the door without realising that the dog would be interested. It contained 8 knitted ducks, filled with polystyrene balls and a crème egg. He ate the whole lot, obviously aiming for the chocolate, but the wool and polystyrene too! A very expensive operation followed

Don't talk to me about sprockers! Mine chewed his way through 3 kindles over the years. (My fault for leaving them on the coffee table) He also had a thing for cloth handkerchiefs-I'd find them pooed out in the garden. And I've still got a TV remote with toothmarks on it. His springer mum never chewed anything in her life.

Gordonramsayatemyhomework · 21/12/2024 08:50

This is a brilliant thread, and Simon is a great name for a dog

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 21/12/2024 08:44

@captainPugwashh my daughters dog ate anything and everything!! single handedly kept the vet in business! bath bombs, soap, prescription tramodol out of my bag, tights, knickers you name it! if it wasnt under lock and key it was his to eat and that is including the legs of lamb, the christmas turkey, french fondant fancies, and childs hamster!! my dogs on the other hand, have only chewed remote controls, house phones, solar lights, shoes, 20 made to measure shirts, electric wires connecting dishwasher to plug while it was plugged in! and dont forget the utility room door just so they can see in the kitchen when the door is closed! everything!

It woz the cat wot did it your honor

Indeed! I mean, look at his little innocent face. That is not the face of a cunning criminal. The DCat set the whole thing up and left him drunk just so that they could laugh at him. I don't know what he's getting the blame! Grin

Excellent thread OP. Sorry about the vet bill so close to Christmas though. Thankfully my Sheltie specialises in duck and bird poo and not items which have to be removed.

And why do they always manage to throw up on the carpet or rug?

The little buggers do it on purpose. Ours are addicted to rabbit poo, they see it as a great delicacy.

Happyholidays78 · 21/12/2024 08:35

A family members dog ate a RAT whole! The rat was likely to have had poison as they had put boxes/poison down. Poor dog had to go to the vet & threw up the rat whole 😔 it was the most disgusting thing I've seen! He's still a cute dog though (he's now called rat breath)

@Nothanks17 you've clearly read further down the thread to see the picture, yet you still thought of quoting the OP so we've either got to read it all again, or scroll past it. Why?!

It is not too difficult to scroll past it🙄

He's a corgi x Labrador so Labrador size with corgi legs 🤣

He sounds very elegant, in many ways. 🤣

JMSA · 21/12/2024 08:23

He's so dumpy and cute Grin

Drowningnotwaving74 · 21/12/2024 08:21

Poo
All the poo
Everyone's poo
Fox.poo a specialty.
Broadband x 3 (its now by the ceiling)
An extension cord (he then ran for a cuddle when it went bang)
Nuts, seeds, bread (especially white) put out for birds by neighbours.
Cheap dog food put out for foxes (that he would turn his nose up if I attempted to feed him it)

This bloody dog will be the death of me

I have a new, recently rehomed, greyhound. She is a champion thief. Even my fruit lives in a cupboard now. Cupboards, fridge and freezer have child locks on, even the upper cupboards. I have had her a week tomorrow and she steals anything that she perceives as food. She is not some half starved ex racer, but a pampered and cared for one.

i completely feel your pain with Simon. He is so beautiful too. That wee face is gorgeous. As for the dog walker/muzzle situation. Your dog so your preference. It’s not like the dog walker picks up the vet bills.

Gizlotsmum · 21/12/2024 08:12

Bless you! So sorry but I laughed too with a bit of relief it wasn’t me and mine!

To try and find a positive - it’s only REALLY cost you £1599.73 😁

This is Bella. She is a tiny Artful Dodger, a thief, and a burglar.

Last Boxing Day, she managed to reach, unwrap and snaffle a box of 80% dark chocolates. Sadly for her sisters, they were also in the room, so they all had to have the induced vomiting treatment to be on the safe side. They all came staggering out of the vet’s office looking like the food poisoning scene from Bridesmaids.

The other two looked murderous, while Bella was unrepentant, with a face that said, ‘Worth it.’

It actually says on her vet record, “Suspect Bella is the culprit. I could smell chocolate on her breath.” That’s my girl…

Love Bella!
We have have a frenchie whose nickname is ‘Pig’ for this very reason! Absolute dustbin. Some of the things he has eaten or tried to eat I can’t even think about at this time of the morning 🤢🤣. His latest attempt was a pack of drawing pins, but he was spotted before he could actually get them down (he no doubt would have given the chance). We’ve looked into a muzzle but those for flat-faced breeds have a Hannibal Lecter-esque quality about them and I just can’t do it.
