To say your engagement ring goes on your finger first and THEN your wedding ring?

So, just that. As you'd have your engagement ring on already at the altar and then your wedding ring goes on, surely?

A quick glance around shows others have it the other way around Confused

I haven’t read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been said.

Wedding ring is meant never to be taken off .
As it was originally a religious and legal symbol of your marriage.

Whereas engagement and other rings are added as decorations!

Well that’s me stuffed then, I wear my engagement ring fairly regularly but never wear my wedding ring.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 20/12/2024 17:43

You are unreasonable for including a surplus ‘ and e in ‘your’, but as posted I also think the convention is that wedding ring goes first and then engagement ring

I wear mine the "wrong" way round so engagement on nearest to my palm as I was given it first, and then wedding ring on top. Although unconventionally my engagement ring is actually a wedding band as I'm not into a big stone type one. So they are both bands and I love them 🙂

TonTonMacoute · 20/12/2024 17:29

To me it makes sense to do it the traditional way because I don't wear my engagement ring every day.

carameldecaflatte · 20/12/2024 17:27

I wear mine the "wrong way" because I prefer the way they look and I don't really care if it's the done thing or not Xmas Grin

muddyford · 20/12/2024 17:25

I wear my wedding ring under my engagement ring because I rarely take off my wedding ring. I don't want to be taking my wedding ring off to take my engagement ring off when gardening or whatever.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/12/2024 17:18

Does it really matter?

Changingplace · 20/12/2024 17:16

When we got married the wedding coordinator said not to wear my engagement ring, wedding ring in first etc, I ignored her as it felt so weird not to wear it and I don’t really care about stuff like that, I think she was annoyed 🤣

These days I usually wear my engagement ring plus my nans engagement ring that was previous worn by my mum, never wear my wedding ring as it’s just too much jewellery for me.

The wedding coordinator would be horrified 🤣

OMG I've been wearing it wrong 😑

Yeah but it doesn't actually matter. Wear it whichever way you prefer.

I don't see how the closest to your heart thing matters, assuming that both rings were given to you by the same person!
dh keeps his ring in a drawer so that's not very close to his heart.

Well it doesn’t matter at all, obviously, it’s just tradition.

Nearest to my wrist, I used to wear mine Eternity, wedding, engagement. It made sense that way due to the shape of the engagement ring

Maboscelar · 20/12/2024 17:08

I have mine eternity ring closest to my hand, then engagement ring, then wedding band. None of them ever come off.

NagathaCrispy · 20/12/2024 17:07

Wedding ring on all the time and engagement ring on top when I wear it. I don't wear it all the time. When I got married I wore my engagement ring on the other hand until my wedding ring was firmly in place!! then swapped it over.

ChubbyMorticia · 20/12/2024 17:06

When we married, we were broke, so no engagement ring, just a gold wedding band. Husband bought me a diamond wedding set at nine years.

So I wear the original band, with the diamond wedding ring, then diamond engagement ring

user2848502016 · 20/12/2024 17:05

Most people do it the other way around in the UK (wedding ring on first with engagement ring on top)

HocusFord · 20/12/2024 17:05

I was told wedding ring goes on first, then it’s closest to your heart. When I got married I swapped my engagement ring on my right hand and then switched it back to left after the ceremony. I don’t really think it matters though!

I wear mine the same way as yours. Personal preference ☺️

I agree. But I don’t think many do agree with us.
to me it makes sense and I think my rings look better that way.

SiobhanSharpe · 20/12/2024 17:04

I think you should wear them in whatever order looks best on your finger. Or however you prefer, swap them around daily if you like. It really doesn't matter a jot.

lover99 · 20/12/2024 17:04

Won't make much of a difference after he's left me for his secretary 15 years down the line.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 20/12/2024 17:03

I wear it like you do because the rings sit together better that way, but I'm aware that it's not the traditional way to wear the rings.

Are you in the uk. How can you possibly not know this.

Pretty easily! I’m not sure I believe there’s a ‘right’ way to wear your rings, surely it’s personal preference. I’ve certainly never noticed the order of rings on anyone’s finger.
