AIBU to want the ‘Thanks’ button back?

Just that really!

I’m hating these new emojis. Hand 👏 to me means either well done or sarcasm and that gurning face for humour is positively terrifying.

Is it just me who is mourning the loss of the simple Thanks button?

@mnhq can we have it back, please?

It might help a bit but often the problem nowadays is people just responding to the OP post without even reading later posts from the OP let alone RTFT.

The next change should be - you are unable to post until you have scrolled through each page of the thread. That'll cut out similar posts I reckon.

(disclaimer - I did not read to the last page so someone could very well have added this before me. Hence why we need it!)

Alliwantforchristmasiscoffee · 20/12/2024 21:00

yes agreed op @IlovePond I'd press the thanks button.....but I can't 😭

JetskiSkyJumper · 20/12/2024 20:57

I didn't even know it had gone. I don't get anything on the app!

BIossomtoes · 20/12/2024 19:09

I like them. Ideally there would be more.

SoupDragon · 20/12/2024 19:03

Not even the "thanks" one? 👏🏻

It looks like clapping to me - as though saying well done to someone!

SoupDragon · 20/12/2024 19:03

iridescentsnowflake · 20/12/2024 18:39

I like the new reactions but would like a thanks option too. I wanted to thank someone yesterday without posting but didn’t because none of the reactions seemed relevant.

You can turn the email notifications off.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2024 18:07

I only know about these 'reactions' via the email notifications. These just say something-and-so has reacted to a post, doesn't say what sort of reaction so it's rather pointless and irritating.

JJZ · 20/12/2024 15:06

I prefer (and seemingly alone in completely understanding) the new reactions.

I never really understood why you would “thank” anyone for a post.

Sometimes people give really good advice or show a lot of understanding. If people are kind we should think it is normal but it isn’t always. Maybe I lead a sad little life but it makes my day if somebody takes the time to say thanks.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2024 15:07

Well you have an iPhone so you haven't caught up yet! I have Android so will always be in front with tech.

MN on an iPad so it's big enough to read! I'll trade being 'in front on tech' for being way better on security any day thanksGrin ....but at some points the mn android version has been behind/buggy relative to iOS anyway so it's swings and roundabouts.

After initial reservations, I am now using them quite happily. I agree about the thanks. I think it should replace the heart which is meaningless. As a very old, in years of age, MNetter I occasionally pass my pearls of wisdom on to others. I have often been thanked and it makes me feel a valued member of the community.

Newgirls · 20/12/2024 14:49

Yes I realise that posters can’t see the thanks etc

but it might still cut down repetition as they can now agree or like rather than thanks

we shall see if it changes anything!

Where, and which version of 'the app', please?

Tbh I don't get the point - I use the iOS app and have easy access to the good old MN emoticons plus normal emojis. Does the 'react' let you leave an emoji without actually bothering to write a post?

Well you have an iPhone so you haven't caught up yet! I have Android so will always be in front with tech.
I also have normal emojis as does everyone, and I like the quick responses, saves a post doesn't it? You dont HAVE to use them - just ignore them, but I like them!

PebbledashDreams · 20/12/2024 08:27

There should be one that’s along the lines of “I’m sorry to hear that, my commiserations, virtual hug.”

When you want to respond to someone’s sad post.

Didn’t that used to be the bunch of flowers emoji? They could have put that in as a reactions option.

Newgirls · 20/12/2024 09:54

I think it’s a great idea. I often simply agree and maybe it will cut down on a hundred people saying the same thing?

having a disagree seems a bit too negative for most posts

Agree it's a good idea

It allows acknowledgement of the poster without repeating what others are already saying.

Plus the description is clear even if you don't like the emoji:)

AnImaginaryCat · 20/12/2024 11:41

Ah I see, well that makes sense why you don't like the new options.

You are overthinking though, there's no strategy change from communication focused to reaction driven. It was always a reaction to a post because MN is just a forum and the majority of posts aren't seeking help information, so the thanks button for your reason meant its use would be quite niche.

I like niche.....

I like the options but the emoji are weird, especially funny.

AnImaginaryCat · 20/12/2024 11:41

venus7 · 20/12/2024 11:19

It meant thank you. If someone helped you, or gave you useful information, it doesn't necessarily follow that you like it, or find it amusing. I wasn't overthinking, or analysing.

brokenwand · 20/12/2024 11:37

I like them, much better than the thanks button.

TMGM · 20/12/2024 11:36

I like having more of a variety of reactions, I’d actually support a disagree or confused button 😂

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 20/12/2024 11:29

venus7 · 20/12/2024 09:45

None of those mean 'thank you'. As previous poster stated, it's now reaction driven, rather than the focus being on communication.

The clapping hands mean 'thanks'.

Try it on a post - once you've clicked on it, React changes to Thanks.

Viviennemary · 20/12/2024 11:25

I do too. These new ones are horrid.
