Lighthearted post really , but I really feel we get a rough deal. My birthday is on the 23rd December. Interested in hearing other stories or even those born on the 25th itself!
Or if you can think of any positives to this I would be very surprised.
Along side the ... I got you this for you birthday and Christmas presents , the cancelling of not making your birthday due to other Christmas events happening or just being too skint as it's Christmas there's more of a chance people forget you over this period. I dread mine every year.
Tell me I'm wrong?

My birthday is the 23rd.
I've never been given a gift and told its for my birthday and Christmas. Anyone that would do this is awful.
Whenever I tell anyone my birthday they all say oh whats that's like and are expecting me to say its terrible, but Ive actually never minded.
As a kid I obviously didn't know any different and my family always made a big effort to keep the two separate. Plus to me it always made birthday more exciting as I was guaranteed to be off school, there were christmas decorations eveywhere and everyone was in a celebratory mood!

Bubblesgun · 18/12/2024 18:45

my daughter is close to christmas. Yes other family members may give her 2 presents in one but they are always a lot more generous than they would otherwise.
re: birthday parties. She always always does it the 2nd week end of december. Of course we do have a cake for her on the day.

so i would say, it is up to your parents / hisband / partner to ensure that you are celebrated though.

it s not too late to re educate them on how to celebrate you

Meant to say summer! No idea when the official birthday of the King actually is...

It isn't an exact fixed date; they choose a suitable weekend each June. His actual birthday is 14 November.

Mine's in the second week of december and I still got screwed as a kid. 😂 A cheaper birthday gift than my sibling every year from our parents because Christmas was coming.
The one gift that counts as both from some relatives.
And Christmas decorations going up on my birthday was apparently meant to make me feel good. I don't know why.

Exactly this

DS is Dec 6th and no issues so far but he only turned 2 this time so not had many birthdays yet.

HopefullyHopeless · 18/12/2024 18:43

I can think of a positive! Birthdays from 21st onwards are rarely at school on their birthdays. That's quite good right?

CariMaroon · 18/12/2024 18:43

My DGM was 25 Dec and I know she enjoyed the fact most of the family would make the effort to be there on the day or at least call.

My DH is 30 Dec and he loves it. He said he was never at school on his birthday and as he got older his friends and clubbing it was great as his friends would be in party mode and there was always events on.

UndeniablyGenX · 18/12/2024 18:43

Just joining to read people's experiences as it's interesting.

CatWolf · 18/12/2024 18:42

Are you suggesting Jesus had it the worst?! Well maybe he did, being born in hay and given myrrh etc…

Mine is Boxing Day. I've always liked it. Makes me feel special! Also I'm always so caught up in planning for Christmas that I forget I've got a birthday in there too so that's fun. Plus with it being just after Christmas it postpones the post-Christmas blues.

I don't like 'and happy birthday' written in a Christmas card from people who would send separate ones to anyone else, or birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper - if you wouldn't give me a card or gift for my birthday if it was in July, then that's fine, you don't need to give me one! But if it was in July you obviously wouldn't be wrapping it in Christmas paper or writing in a Christmas card so please at least treat it like a separate event like you would if it was at any other time of year.

I've had the happy birthday in Christmas cards many times... so irritating

As an early January birthday, I just get given all the crap that's in the sales. I don't mind getting things that were in the sale if they're good, but sometimes you can tell why something didn't sell at full price. And sometimes I get joint Christmas and birthday presents even though my birthday is over a week later

FiveFoxes · 18/12/2024 18:40

If your birthday is in December, you still get parties. In fact, you probably get more than normal people because people are in celebration/ party mood before Christmas. I can see presents might be a problem, but personally I think I remember people's December birthdays more because they are near Christmas.

Now January birthdays especially early January (from 2nd/3rd onwards) are really rubbish as everyone is skint and on a diet and is fed up of socialising by then...

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 18/12/2024 18:40

You should follow the Monarch's lead and have an official birthday in July.

(I'm being entirely serious!)

Poppyredstar · 18/12/2024 18:39

I'm getting that it also sucks to have a birthday in January too. I reckon December and January must be the worst months to have one! If I compare mine to my friends / family that have a birthday in the summer for example it's always made into a bigger deal and everyone is always up for it and they get more gifts for sure!

AceofPentacles · 18/12/2024 18:39

DS is Christmas Eve, he doesn't mind it but hates travelling to relatives on his birthday so that's been a bit tricky for visiting

NotYourSaviour · 18/12/2024 18:39

My mum's birthday was Christmas Day! I don't recall her ever minding much. When I was a kid, if I got her a combined birthday and Christmas present, I'd wrap half in Christmas paper and half in birthday paper, always made her laugh.

She died in 2020, would have been 87 this Christmas Day.

I’m sorry, but January 1st is definitely worse.

everyone is hungover, broke, fed up with celebrating, and as a child no-one wants to do a party on New Year’s Day!

Wow you beat me! That really is the worst!

A good friend has a birthday on 25th December. When they got to about aged 20, they simply decided to "change" their birthday to 25th June. Of course all official documents etc. still state Dob as 25/12, but he just celebrates on 25th June. Seems to work for everyone!

This is brilliant

I get it! But I'm mid Jan. it's truly pants. At lest December birthdays people are cheery and looking forward to stuff.
Mid Jan means everyone is broke, all dieting/doing dry January/staying in.

This is true! My friends is January and everyone is on detox she always complains.

A friend with triplets born 25th used to do their birthday party on 24th, usually 11 to 1.30 ish, it was very popular with the parents, a few hours of peace to make final preparations!

I think if people really want to they will make the effort.

My friends birthday is on Saturday, her gift is wrapped to be given on Saturday when we are going out for a birthday brunch and a mimosa or two.

My niece is the 27th, her gifts are wrapped and ready to take to her on the day when the family will gather for cake.

You sound a really lovely person
