Lighthearted post really , but I really feel we get a rough deal. My birthday is on the 23rd December. Interested in hearing other stories or even those born on the 25th itself!
Or if you can think of any positives to this I would be very surprised.
Along side the ... I got you this for you birthday and Christmas presents , the cancelling of not making your birthday due to other Christmas events happening or just being too skint as it's Christmas there's more of a chance people forget you over this period. I dread mine every year.
Tell me I'm wrong?

My best friend's birthday is early Jan. I make an effort for her but wouldn't for anyone else. She is literally the bestest friend ever. But I'm skint and partied out and tired and work is shit and the last thing I want is to have cocktails and go out. Her birthdays are usually either small or very low key for that reason. Half the people she invites don't come. Many who do, don't have a drink, don't buy a present and leave by 9pm. Like I said, I go all out for her sake because she gets a really raw deal in my opinion.

Spectre8 · 18/12/2024 19:43

Mine is the 28th and yeah it sucks noone other than family is available to hang out it's really shit I mean not even on my 40th could any of my closest friends just once, once make an effort to celebrate it on the day. Always told to move it.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 18/12/2024 19:42

I'm mid January and it's shite. No one cares. I've not celebrated it since my 30th.

Rockingrobin25 · 18/12/2024 19:41

Mine is 5th January and it's the worst!! At least in December everyone is still in party spirits! By my birthday everyone is tired, hungover, skint, on a diet and doing dry Jan (usually including myself) I very rarely do much to celebrate to be honest!

Scottishskifun · 18/12/2024 19:39

Both DS's are Winter babies, both were early so born a few weeks then their due dates.
DS1 gets it worse as the mid Jan one. We have changed it so that the most special gift is for their birthday and Christmas is some stuff from the list but nothing huge. We have found it really helps.

I have a few friends who have "half birthdays" in the summer just to make it more enjoyable or the ability to do something as a winter birthday has to be indoors which comes at a cost!

My birthday is Christmas Day and I have an ‘official birthday’ in June. I often get cards addressed to the Queen!
I love knowing my birthday is Christmas Day but I really don’t celebrate it until June.

I'm really liking all these posts about changing your birthday to the summer!

As an early January birthday, I just get given all the crap that's in the sales. I don't mind getting things that were in the sale if they're good, but sometimes you can tell why something didn't sell at full price. And sometimes I get joint Christmas and birthday presents even though my birthday is over a week later

My BFF has a Jan 1st birthday. She says its the shit because when she was a child everyone just did one gift and told her it was for her birthday as well (sucks when the GPs did it every year) and now she is an adult everyone is skint, hungover, and doing Dry January.

Bonus is that you almost always get the day off work though. But she tends to ignore it completely.

Move to Scotland - it's a bank holiday there!

I could recommend it to him! 😂 He lives in America now though so might not be that convenient…

I guess it’s not a massive party day for you either?

Poppyredstar · 18/12/2024 19:22

Oh yes I can see why this would be rubbish too!... I think if I was you I would be tempted to change it new years eve! I know someone whose birthday is new years eve and they absolutely love it!

Lol yeah, if I could change my bday i’d change it to the summer! I was due on NYE so that would have been better for sure. I don’t celebrate my bday anymore so it doesn’t really bother me now, but i’ve only ever been on one holiday for my bday as its such an expensive time of year.

This thread has just reminded me that it's ny cousin's birthday tomorrow and I am seeing her at a Christmas party the weekend so need to get her something and wrap in birthday paper!

I think a birthday in the lead up to Christmas is particularly hard where everyone is so busy. My ds' birthday is in the lull between Christmas and new year. He seems to quite like that no one is working so there are always family members up for doing something special e.g. going out for dinner or ice skating etc

I'm glad it helped you remember! The wrapping paper never bothered me in the slightest. It was the joint presents

Dd's is the 21st, it didn't matter to us or her previous years but she'll soon be 12 and it's starting to upset her that it gets swept over by a lot of people/friends.

EarlofShrewsbury · 18/12/2024 19:27

My DD1s due date was 24th December. Her actual birthday is 24th October. At this time of year I'm so glad she turned up 9 weeks early.

ady1 · 18/12/2024 19:25

My birthday is Xmas eve and my DS is the 22nd! He’s only 7 and doesn’t seem to mind so far but might change when he gets older. I’ve always loved my bday, my parents always did a big family party on Xmas eve night which in hindsight was probably more a Xmas get together but I always felt like it was all about me.

I raise you January 4th… 10 days after Xmas, 4 days after NYE. No one wants to go out 😵‍💫

No bills coming through yet, though. And the early payday hasn't begun to bite yet...

I’m the 30th, as I got older, friends didn’t want to come out on 30th as wanted to save themselves for NYE, or if you did go out, you’re hungover for NYE. I complained to my parents every year and made sure none of mine were born in December! It sucks no matter how much the parents tries to make it special.

My DDs is on Boxing Day, I try to keep it as separate as possible, go mad when anyone tries to buy her a ‘joint’ Christmas/birthday present, decorate like crazy just for her birthday, luckily all the family turn up for my DDs birthday on Boxing Day to celebrate. I don’t want her to ever feel that her birthday is overshadowed 🥳 just glad she wasn’t born on Christmas Day 🤣

Circe32 · 18/12/2024 19:21

Mine is the 21st. Luckily, I tend to receive separate cards and presents for birthday and Christmas, but I do find it mildly annoying that when going out for a birthday meal it can be difficult to avoid the Christmas menus and parties. It kind of takes the shine off it.
Thinking about stealing a PP's idea of celebrating in June lol

I'm very early January so not quite so bad. However everyone is always skint, possibly still hungover or just going back to work so don't really care. I've never planned anything a get together for it and just go and do my own thing on my own.

Moll2020 · 18/12/2024 19:20

My first GD is due on 23rd, my Mum is 89 on Christmas Day!

I think also for me is I'm a single parent . I don't have a partner to make it a fuss.
Going out to celebrate with friends or family would mean alot... especially when I've been out for thiers throughout the year.
I get it's a tough time for alot of people and I just get on with it by trying to get myself something nice these days ( if I'm not too skint from buying everyone Christmas presents!) I'm being light hearted really, but yeh it sucks..
