… and now we find out we are both positive. I’ve been ill with cold and cough symptoms for a week. I had one day off work then spent the whole weekend with family for my mum’s 80th. We went to abba voyage. I have been in the classroom. I have been out for dinner with colleagues last night. Until now, it was just a cold virus. But NOW I feel duty bound to tell people? I kind of prefer the living in ignorance thing! Should I announce it or not? I will def tell my mum. Not sure how I feel about Covid now that all the rules have ended. I kind of feel annoyed that he did the test at all!

So you're annoyed because now you know you have Covid, not because you exposed your 80 year old DM to it?

No it’s not like that. I feel awful like I should have tested before we went. But no one is even doing that now. There’s so many coughs and colds around we are all getting on with it. It’s like he’s now opened a can of worms and feels like we have to tell everyone and that I did something wrong

I don't get the point of testing tbh. If you've got a virus & you're ill, it makes no difference if it's covid or something else. Why would your behaviour change? People seem to be happy to go about their business spreading all over as long as it's not covid though.

JimHalpertsWife · 18/12/2024 18:40

Surely it's the same as what you do with any other bug? Keep away from people if hacking up/vomiting/on the loo all day.

If not, and it's presenting as with other colds, hand washing and using tissues and getting on with your day.

Why did you do the test ?

I would stay at home if I felt shit and stay away from immunocompromised people the same way I would with a normal cold.

It was me who got ill first. I knew DH had caught my ‘cold’. So when he did the test today I knew I’d had it first. I don’t know it sort of feels different when you ‘know’. I felt a bit better at the weekend and went on normally.

i am surprised people are testing - unless you mix with vulnerable people i supose
our cleaner has tested positive

Balloonhearts · 18/12/2024 18:32

But it wasn't just a cold virus. It was covid. Doing a test doesn't change it. If I refuse to acknowledge eating the dodgy chicken, it doesn't mean my upset stomach isn't food poisoning.

He's done the sensible thing really, not sure why you're annoyed. It's always better to make an informed decision whether you want to spread it.

I'd tell your mum at least. If she's caught it off you at least she can get treatment if it starts going downhill as she is elderly and therefore more vulnerable. You're no less dead for not knowing what killed you.

As for the others, I'd rather know tbh so as not to spread it further.

loulouljh · 18/12/2024 18:29

If you are ill stay at home. If not crack on.

WaitingRoomBoredom · 18/12/2024 18:27

I don't get the problem. It was never about rules for the sake of it, but rules to try and minimise spread and help people make informed decisions.

I have a family member who is vulnerable and I'd really appreciate people I'd been in close contact with telling me so I could take action. Yes, I might be in contact with others who don't know, but every bit of reduced risk is good.

DetestTheClockChange · 18/12/2024 18:21

But you obviously took the test too?

Personally I think it's the responsible thing to do to still test. People can make their own decisions based on that information (for example my DM has to have antivirals if Covid positive asap). But I know many others disagree.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 18/12/2024 18:21

I would. I think it's always polite to give people a head's up if you're under the weather with anything contagious.

LoyalTaupeTiger · 18/12/2024 18:20

Doing the test doesn't change the fact you have COVID though?
