To call things off because of the way he dresses?

I work in a healthcare so wear a uniform, man I've been on a couple of dates on often works in my department and is always in scrubs.

The way he dresses, really gives me the ick. I was so attracted to him before, but now I've seen him outside of work in his own clothes j barely am.

We haven't slept together yet.

Should I just get over this? I don't know how!

So, I know this won't be an ick for a lot of people here. I think it may be generational, as he is a decade older than me.

Skinny jeans, fluorescent coloured boxers, all white Ted baker trainers. They're the worst parts for me.

Do you think it wouldn't be the ick for most MNetters because we're not focused on clothes, or that's what all men 'our age' wear?!

I think the skinny jeans in particular would be a pretty universal no no on a man in this day and age 😂

Are skinny-jeaned men less virulent I wonder?!

I don’t think you mean this, or at least I hope not

This is so funny - sorry OP. How old are you? I dumped many men in my twenties over a jacket or shoes that I couldn't abide.

In fact I was once in a serious relationship with a guy who got a free jacket from work. It was horrible. I roared laughing when I saw it and asked him how he kept a straight face and what he was going to do with it. I couldn't believe my ears when he told me he was going to wear it and to prove his point he put it on right away. As he zipped it up he delivered the relationship ender "it's warm and that's the main thing."

Are you shallow? Am I? Who cares - you don't fancy him, get rid.

Perhaps I'm just shallow?

I was so attracted to him right up until the point I saw how he was dressed in person.

You are, sadly

Gosh, I don't know anyone of any generation who dresses like that. But hang on, the boxers are presumably invisible most the time, so it's skinny jeans with white trainers that put you off. Doesn't sound that bad.
Do you think that someone 10 years older than you should be wearing a different style of trousers? Or do his legs look awful in them? Struggling to understand here.

How shallow.
But have the grace and courtesy to dump him now. You won't change him, nor should you try.
Find someone who dresses in the costumes you approve of, because clearly that it important to you

This. I don't really notice men's clothes as long as they are neat and tidy and appropriate for the occasion. Unless they dress really outlandishly.

Literally described DS(16) so yeah if he's a grown ass man defo ICK!!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/12/2024 12:29

The wrapping is easy to sort, the contents are what count! If you can't see past the clothing, then you need to move on.

FrostyTheSnowHuman · 16/12/2024 12:27

I think ideally you want a partner to have at least broadly similar tastes in music, films, decor etc. There’s a reason you don’t see too many goths going out with people who wear tracksuits 24/7! If you hate his clothing it’s an indicator your tastes aren’t compatible.

Also, perfectly reasonable not to fancy a man in skinny jeans! Few could 😜

BlueGlassVase · 16/12/2024 12:25

I don’t think you’re shallow. I don’t think it’s really about what he’s wearing it’s about how that might reflect his attitudes and interests and how they might not chime other your own, I’d leave it OP.

WolfFleece · 16/12/2024 12:25

Yeah any of those things would put me right off too. It’s all part of the overall picture of fancying someone, and if you don’t fancy him
it aint going nowhere. Particularly the skinny jeans part 🤢.

Annabella92 · 16/12/2024 12:21

How skinny is skinny jeans?

Slim or basically painted on leggings

How do you know what colour his boxers are?

What is wearing on top

Somewhere in-between that. They skinner than slim, but not skin tight either.

I've seen the boxers poking out.

Better to meet someone your own age. Don't let an older man steal your years.

DecayingRelic · 16/12/2024 12:19

I get you

I really could not be attracted to a man who wore skinny jeans, they are hideous😁

You are allowed to call it off for whatever reason you want. If his clothes give you ick then just end it.

Chamomileteaplease · 16/12/2024 12:17

Yeah that sounds bad! Skinny jeans on men are just so bad.

But I don't have a solution! So difficult.

Marblesbackagain · 16/12/2024 12:16

hydriotaphia · 16/12/2024 12:16

If you're not attracted to him then you're not. I can't really imagine being offended by the clothes you describe (not the point I know).

AuntyEntropy · 16/12/2024 12:16

If you don't fancy him then don't shag him.

Porcuporpoise · 16/12/2024 12:15

So you're not well suited, move on.
