To not understand parents who go to Disneyland without their kids?

I know I'm being irrational. I know it's none of my business.

BUT.... I've seen a couple of friends over the last year or so, who have children the aged who'd enjoy Disney, and yet they go to Disney without their kids.

I cannot understand it!

If I could afford a holiday without kids or at all it wouldn't be to bloody Disney land.

Clearinguptheclutter · 16/12/2024 12:35

When I went this summer I was stunned by the amount of adults, specifically adult groups, with no kids in sight
of course I don’t know if they left kids at home or just didn’t have any, but clearly there is a strong interest from adults as well as kids

peachystormy · 16/12/2024 12:31

@MaggieMistletoe am howling at moronic 🤣 indeed it seems the best word to describe it can't imagine why anyone would willingly want to go to Disneyland, kids included

afluffle · 16/12/2024 12:29

I hate it when adults take over kid's things, cos then things start getting weird soon after that as the company starts pandering to the adults with the money... example: Disney movies, Harry Potter fans, over-priced Lego.

Leave things for the kids! Grow up!

I8toys · 16/12/2024 12:28

Totally agree. There was a guy at work - divorced and new girlfriend. Took the girlfriend and not his kids. Reliving his youth obviously. He was a knob so......

Dueanamechange2025 · 16/12/2024 12:20

Do you know the kids actually want to go? We went a few times over a couple of years, the last time my DS (11/12 at the time) decided he didn’t want to come. Yes my DD still came but I’d have been going with my adult sister & niece if she didn’t. The experience without children is totally different.

Of course it's fucking weird to go to Disney without your Disney-appropriate-aged kids! 😆

There's nothing wrong with adults enjoying disney. Let people enjoy what they like if it's harmless.
But I wouldn't go without my kids just because they'd absolutely love it.

We go to Disneyland Paris quite a lot (at least once or twice a year) a couple of times I have also had solo trips. My kids have been plenty so I don't feel as though they are missing out and I have a completely different experience going on my own, for me it's similar to how some parents might go on a retreat without their kids.
However I couldn't go on my own having not taken my kids and having plans to take them not long after.

Yes this sums it up.

@MaggieMistletoe didn't have the conviction to stick to your paedophile comment?

That's right clever clogs, I reworded it more subtly.. all of 2 seconds after I posted it. What a sleuth you are!

There are documented incidents of paedophiles at Disneyland, a quick internet search will provide numerous newspaper articles.

@MaggieMistletoe somebody needs a hug

But not from a giant Mickey Mouse please.

Dotto · 16/12/2024 12:02

There are a great deal of rides, attractions and bars that are not suitable for younger or older children.

Either way, no problem at all to have an adults only Disney trip if you don't want a child-centric holiday.

Some people need to learn that the world doesn't revolve around children, nor does Disney.

Plus it's fucking expensive and if you know your children are going to be whining in the heat, leave them at home.

I think there's something weird about adults who go and hang around kiddies play areas, let alone going to a children's theme park.

peachystormy · 16/12/2024 08:59

Your right, it's bloody weird

Not as weird as judging other people for doing things you don't like.

Now THAT is weird. And rude. And patronising. NEWSFLASH: People are different!

And I have not been to any Disney park since my children were primary school age, but I'm not so arrogant and judgemental that I pour scorn on adults who go without children.

BlackChunkyBoots · 16/12/2024 11:52

My cousin in her 50s has gone with her husband of about the same age. She loves all things Disney. They don't have kids.

I wouldn't go with or without kids.

I went with my children to Disney Paris one year then a couple years later went with just a friend. Both experiences were enjoyable but going with another adult meant we could take advantage of single rider queuing and take advantage of staying out later.

Barney16 · 15/12/2024 23:46

Disney Paris was without doubt the worst holiday I have been on with my children. I would never go back with them or without them. Every one else is very welcome to it.

Thedishwasherbroke · 15/12/2024 23:41

My kids would hate Disney theme parks. Don’t like any Disney characters or films, aren’t interested in rides, can’t stand queues, hate crowds, struggle in heat… I could tell them we were going to Disney and they’d probably be about as enthusiastic as they are about going to the dentist.

Disney is not really my thing either. But if it was I don’t see why I should miss out on something I enjoy just because my kids don’t like it. As long as the adults you refer to aren’t flaunting in their crying kids faces that they’re going without them while chanting “nah nah ne nah nah” then I think it’s fine for them to holiday wherever they want. Presumably the kids are being well looked after by Grandparents or the like.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 15/12/2024 23:23

There are about a million things that people do that I don't understand.

Anyone going to Disney anything ever is on that list, but quite a long way down in terms of global importance or the amount of headspace I give it.

WomensRightsRenegade · 15/12/2024 22:57

I can’t understand a lot of things about other people’s holiday choices. So fucking what?

Screams bad parenting to me. How could a parent who really loved their Disney aged kids go to Disney without them?! The kids would be heartbroken.
