To not understand parents who go to Disneyland without their kids?

I know I'm being irrational. I know it's none of my business.

BUT.... I've seen a couple of friends over the last year or so, who have children the aged who'd enjoy Disney, and yet they go to Disney without their kids.

I cannot understand it!

That sounds weird who does that?!

You ok? Jesus….

Bit OTT isn't it?

Ah, the voice of reason. Thank you.

Thank you. Smile I am gobsmacked at the judgement, the nasty comments, the scorn, and the 'people who go to Disney parks with no children are paedophiles' type comments. Utterly horrific!

WTF is wrong with some people?! Confused

Not as weird as judging other people for doing things you don't like.

Now THAT is weird. And rude. And patronising. NEWSFLASH: People are different!

And I have not been to any Disney park since my children were primary school age, but I'm not so arrogant and judgemental that I pour scorn on adults who go without children.

@MaggieMistletoe am howling at moronic 🤣 indeed it seems the best word to describe it can't imagine why anyone would willingly want to go to Disneyland, kids included

'I am howling at 'moronic!'

Easily pleased aren't ya? Wink

NarnianQueen · 15/12/2024 22:44

All these people defending it!

Of course it's fucking weird to go to Disney without your Disney-appropriate-aged kids! 😆

Will you be having toast with that enormous serving of judgement?!

Fookin' hell. Are you OK! Confused

I think you need a glass of wine, a sit down, and a nice warm mince pie. Help you chill a little bit. (And book some anger management classes for after Christmas eh?) And try and get someone to speak to, to try to find out why you have such dark and weird thoughts.

Wordsmithery · 16/12/2024 13:19

I went to Disney pre-kids and it was fab.
Once you've got kids, though, going without them feels really really mean, unless you're taking them separately. It's every kid's dream, isn't it? Why would you not want them to share the fun?

RandomUsernameHere · 16/12/2024 13:16

Mine would never forgive me! Grin

TiredArse · 16/12/2024 13:14

Absolutely fine for adults to go.

But I do think it’s mean to leave at home kids who are old enough to enjoy it. Imagine being 10 and your parents fuck off to Disney, and you get a day out at Blackpool with Nana.

Are you actually serious?? Are you genuinely insinuating that adults who go alone to DisneyWorld are all paedos, how dare you. It’s for people of all ages and features more than just rides for kids, it’s got Michelin star restaurants FGS. If anyone’s a brainless fool, it’s you.

Rapunzel91 · 16/12/2024 13:11

Hmm no I’d find that a bit strange. I’ve been once and we took the children who all loved it. If my DH and I were going away by ourselves I’d go somewhere that I now the kids wouldn’t enjoy as much

LonginesPrime · 16/12/2024 13:10

It does seem a bit pointless to want an adults-only holiday but then choose somewhere filled with other people's annoying kids (who are always 100x more annoying than one's own kids).

Which makes me assume that any parent doing this is either planning to get heaps of photos (with the characters/props, etc) for Instagram, or they intend to go on the bigger rides their own DC are still too small for.

Still, that's up to them, I guess.

alfhroa · 16/12/2024 13:07

Just curious if those who don't like adults going at all feel the same about all theme parks? Is Alton Towers acceptable?

alfhroa · 16/12/2024 13:06

That's right clever clogs, I reworded it more subtly.. all of 2 seconds after I posted it. What a sleuth you are!

Not a sleuth at all, just happened to see the original post and when I went to re-read it to see if you were being as nuts as you sounded you had retracted, if you're going for controversial you may as well stick with it, especially when the whole audit trail is there under edited.

CheeseSandwich2 · 16/12/2024 13:05

peachystormy · 16/12/2024 08:59

Your right, it's bloody weird

What’s an acceptable age to go to Disney then? Do people get too old?

alfhroa · 16/12/2024 13:03

I just don’t get it when people go halfway across the world for more than a week leaving young kids at home.

Really don't get it? Or just not something you're comfortable with yourself?

Fireworknight · 16/12/2024 12:58

It’s a theme park. So there are rides that attract all ages.

Foxblue · 16/12/2024 12:57

People tend to fall into 3 camps on stuff like this (ditto lego, online gaming, festivals, anything that might be related to childhood or teenager-dom)

  • it's not my thing, but I get why you'd enjoy it
  • it's not my thing, and I dont understand why you'd enjoy it
  • it's not my thing, I don't understand why you'd enjoy it, and I think you are weird for liking it
I've never met anyone in the third camp who wasn't at least a little bit of a nightmare - the kind of person who gets in a huff because their old work colleague didn't text them to wish little Timmy a happy 12th birthday. You know the type. Follows 6 million made up social 'rules' to the letter, thinks anyone who doesn't is 'rude' and can't comprehend the thought of liking something they have deemed 'childish' because they 'like' things within an accepted realm of what they think they are supposed to like, have never even been remotely curious about anything else, and therefore think people are weird if they want something different. Lighthearted... mostly.
Cocomelonhater · 16/12/2024 12:56

I don’t get people who go on holiday without their young kids full stop tbh.

Of course a weekend away is needed from time to time if you are lucky enough to get childcare, but I just don’t get it when people go halfway across the world for more than a week leaving young kids at home.

Horrace · 16/12/2024 12:48

Selfish fuckers

Eyresandgraces · 16/12/2024 12:43

I love Disney land.
However I've never been without small dc.
I met a dm and dd once who went every year. They would have been 40 and 60's.
Everyone likes different stuff.

Cailleach1 · 16/12/2024 12:38

I was amazed that adults went to Disneyland on their own. Each to their own though.

On our last visit to Disneyland Paris, we met a woman with a young daughter on our way back to London. While chatting, she told me she had met a man there who had sort of hooked up with her. She was very flattered. I would have run for the hills. Some fellow on his own in Disneyland, who then approaches a mother and her daughter to hang out with them.

MammaKel · 16/12/2024 12:36

Pre children my husband and I went to disney a lot - we've been to paris, florida, LA, and Tokyo, and I can assure you neither of us are pedophiles, ND maybe but definitely not pedophiles.

We haven't been without our children. However, I don't judge if others want to. There's a lot of things geared towards teenagers and adults there.
