What was your position on Amber Heard & Johnny Depp

I wonder if your feelings have changed since the trial?

I always viewed their situation as mutually toxic - they both abused and were abused. I honestly hated seeing people seemingly enjoying the tearing down and gaslighting of Amber. I think Amber did herself no favours. She’s clearly a narcissist and it was obvious when she was recounting her experiences. Very dramatic and forced. But I still believe she was hurt by Depp.

Johnny Depp has garnered so much good will for just being Johnny Depp. Not to mention the Children’s hospital visits. But multiple things can be true at once. He can be charitable with his time whilst also being an abuser.

Depp may never have hit Kate Moss. But that has no bearing on his relationship with Heard. In some relationships fighting is almost like foreplay. The emotion, passion etc can be addictive. It probably excited them both to fight and make up.

It is accepted Johnny Depp was addicted to both drugs and alcohol. In my experience, alcoholic men can be absolute monsters. I had an abusive father and the anger just came to the fore as soon as he drank.

Amber is back in the news and I just feel very sorry for her. I’m sure she played her part but I’m sure she was also hurt. Just chewed up and spat out.

I found the fact that she filmed parts of their relationship, where they were in an argument, was strange, and didn’t do her any favours, as it felt like she was ‘poking the bear’ during the exchange and he reacted to her. It all felt very staged and set up. It was that which made me think they were both equally toxic, and clearly brought out the very worst in each other.

SemperIdem · 15/12/2024 21:41

I always felt she suffered for failing to be “the perfect victim”. My opinion of Johnny Depp changed entirely - he is an odious, abusive addict who used his significant power like a weapon. An utterly repugnant individual who appears who has been able to move through and forwards from the whole debacle entirely unscathed.

Supersimkin7 · 15/12/2024 21:41

Amber overplayed her hand.

They were both ‘keen party types’ who were rich enough to get away with bad behaviour inc physical fights & drunk
at breakfast.

She blew it by presenting herself as a saint when she often punched him first. She’s bigger than he is. And drank as much as he did.

Team Johnny here; I don’t know anyone who turns violent aged 56. I really don’t know anyone who can spend years with an addict and not notice till after the wedding.

Touch of St Meghan the Martyr, with added ham.

GladAllOver · 15/12/2024 21:41

Total disinterest. After all it was /is none of my business.

Patienceinshortsupply · 15/12/2024 21:41

I think they were equally as toxic as one another and neither came out covered in glory.

It hasn't been said whether she's pregnant or using another surrogate with this second child.

Aliceinneverland · 15/12/2024 21:40

My Instagram reels were overrun with JD propaganda at that time of that case, I have subsequently had the PoW with peggate and my husband had the same plus Andrew Tate and Conor McGregor during their recent exploits with courts/law. But none compared to what JD unleashed on the world during that trial. It is clear once again that powerful men are using social tools to their advantages, a tale as old as time.

BeensOnToost · 15/12/2024 21:39

I went from thinking they both have issues to thinking the both have issues but he is an absolute piece of shit and I can't wsntch anything he was ever in, I won't watch anything he goes on to be involved with and that I will boycott anything made by people who don't give a shit about what he did because they are star fuckers who know he will make them money.

WhatTheKey · 15/12/2024 21:26

I'm surprised at how Paul Bettany seems to be none the worse. I always thought he seemed okay until I read those texts. Horrible bastard. Not to mention JD, of course. Misogynistic, toxic men.

Those texts were vile ...... Grown men and Fathers swapping what they did was absolutely shameful. Both sullied iny opinion now

SweetBobby · 15/12/2024 21:10

I couldn't feel one ounce of pity for her. She's a vile, lying narcissist.

That she is

JennyForeigner · 15/12/2024 21:37

Disgusting misogyny. I don't hold a torch for Heard but just don't want to see Depp's smug swollen face around ever again. Also, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies were shit.

I used to like Paul Bettany. Absolutely killed that stone dead. Arse-kissing wannabe prick.

username299 · 15/12/2024 21:36

I thought he came across as repulsive. He basically needs carers and is incapable of looking after himself. He has tantrums.

However I didn't believe much of what she said. I believe he was emotionally abusive but I believe she was as well. Her friends also took advantage of him.

They both seemed pretty toxic.

My position... there was an absolute frenzy of misogyny unleashed on Amber Heard during the US trial. It was disgusting and quite traumatic. I have no idea really what happened in their relationship and I do think she's likely quite a difficult person, but Depp I just find despicable - for his vindictive behaviour towards Amber, his horrific texts about her, and quite a few other reasons including his friendship with Marilyn Manson, his violence over the years, his dodgy history (the Viper club in particular is extremely shady), and other 'colourful' things like trying to obtain paintings by the serial killer John Wayne Gacey and Hitler's gun.

Agreed.

Both pretty awful people, but the free pass he got just for being who he is says a lot about society.

yousexybugger · 15/12/2024 21:33

I felt really uncomfortable about the whole thing. As others say, I felt they had both probably behaved badly but he had much more power and reputational sway and could have walked out long before it escalated (I know that's not how dysfunctional relationships work). I feel she was out of her depth and not likeable which isn't a crime, and he is very likeable. He had a better lawyer whereas hers made silly mistakes.

I feel he just looks sleazy now, flogging his Sausage perfume after steamrollering a much younger and less accomplished ex using the best PR and lawyers money could buy.

I thought less of Kate Moss and other exes. It's not that I was a particular fan but she's a 50 odd year old woman who dated him decades ago. Sounds like it was fine at the time but that was ages ago. I'm not sure what she thought she had to add to the trial other than an enormous amount of goodwill whether or not deserved. How did she know how he had treated his wife behind closed doors?

As I say, I don't think either behaved well but he will make a much fuller recovery than she will. Which would be one thing if it was just career wise, nobody is owed an A list career, but death threats, the messages about raping her body etc. really unsavoury. Plus his children seeing that. It wasn't necessary

Jostuki · 15/12/2024 21:33

Both as dreadful as each other but he came out too as he had better legal representation and is more beloved by the public. I also think that Kate Moss lied.

CrazyGoatLady · 15/12/2024 21:33

ESH - everybody sucks here was the conclusion I came to.

Twototwo15 · 15/12/2024 21:32

I didn’t like either and still don’t. I do think she got a bit too much hate and can’t see why everyone thinks he’s so wonderful.

Hugge · 15/12/2024 21:31

WhatTheKey · 15/12/2024 21:26

I'm surprised at how Paul Bettany seems to be none the worse. I always thought he seemed okay until I read those texts. Horrible bastard. Not to mention JD, of course. Misogynistic, toxic men.

And iirc Bettany tried to blame the messages being “taken out of context”. I wonder what context is acceptable to describe the burning and raping of a woman?

Despicable.

StrawberryWater · 15/12/2024 21:31

I believe her and the more I read about JD the more I think the probability that he isn't an abusive a-hole astronomically impossible. I'm actually glad his movie career has never really recovered.

XWKD · 15/12/2024 21:30

I think she was treated very unfairly by the media and the public, but that doesn't change my opinion of her. I think they're a pair of narcissistic abusers, and that one of them is as bad as the other.

Wellingtonspie · 15/12/2024 21:29

I mean that were both toxic to each other. But some of her stories were out there even for them.

Also I’m sorry but I lost it at her taking a shit in the bed and the dog stepping on a bee… the face she pulled sorry but the relevance was what???

Americano75 · 15/12/2024 21:29

I believe her. Always have.

FailureAndSuicide · 15/12/2024 21:28

They're both vile
