To be devastated that he's missed the Christmas shopping deadline

I only asked for one thing. The deadline passed last weekend and it turns out he hasn't even bloody ordered it.

Christmas is ruined! He's suggesting he fashion one out of tin foil instead. He thinks he'll be able to fasten it together with the Tiffany paperclip he got me a few years ago. To be fair, he created a surprisingly good mock up of a Jackson Pollock painting, although I think Crispín and Tabitha suspect it's not genuine.

I'm utterly discombobulated.

Could you spray paint a real cabbage??

TheignT · 15/12/2024 10:05

I’m happy to pop to Asda and Hobby craft and spay paint a cabbage silver for you. I’ll even hand deliver it. Because it’s the season of goodwill I’ll only charge £20k. #christmassaved

Sorry I'm too slow posting so missed yours. To be fair a DIY job would be ideal if OP wants the money for the real thing. You are very enterprising though.

TheignT · 15/12/2024 10:04

I'd pop down to the greengrocers, spray tin of silver paint and it will be fine for now. He can always get the real thing in the New Year for you. It will be OK.

The man’s a brut!!

DrippySuet · 15/12/2024 09:51

@drspouse

No issue there at all. That’s the butlers job.

Rosscameasdoody · 15/12/2024 09:50

drspouse · 15/12/2024 09:47

But how would you get the crisp crumbs out of the cabbage?

Crisps ?!! Surely you mean game chips !!!

You need to raise your standards OP.
Insist he makes amends.

RaininSummer · 15/12/2024 09:43

I would send you one of my spare silver cabbages if the Royal Mail could be relied upon to deliver in time (and if I possessed a spare or any silver cabbages). Since when were cabbages festive ornamentation anyway?

Rosscameasdoody · 15/12/2024 09:42

Emptyandsad · 15/12/2024 07:06

Don't worry OP, I got this for my partner and, would you believe it, she got one for me! So we have two.

I'll give you my PayPal deets and you can just wing me £28,000 and I'll send the spare over via Evri 😊

And Evri will promptly deliver it to a house a few streets away and send you the tracking details showing the balloon in the wrong area, and a photo of someone elses’ doorstep !!

evtheria · 15/12/2024 09:39

@Anewuser

I thought the same. I’d never get my skittles out between those flaps.

I was quietly enjoying the thread until this line, DP came in to see what on earth I was laughing about but I can't even explain any of this discussion to him.

FozzieWozzieWasABear · 15/12/2024 09:38

Badly done MrTilypu, badly done.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 15/12/2024 09:37

I'll make you one for 20k, I'll even throw in a real cabbage you can use for Christmas and a bag of Aldi chocolate coins. PM me hun.

Allihavetodoisdream · 15/12/2024 09:36

I think you’re being too harsh on him personally. He could be ND.

DaringLion · 15/12/2024 09:31

Hope you have your therapy booked

CatrionaBalfour · 15/12/2024 09:26

Such bravery and endurance, OP. If there was a Mumsnet Woman of the Year, I'm sure we'd all nominate you.

BoudiccasBangles · 15/12/2024 09:22

Let him fashion you one from tin foil and serve it to him for Christmas dinner.

Dobest · 15/12/2024 09:22

How do we know it's not a Brussels sprout, grotesquely overdeveloped?

MrsMitford3 · 15/12/2024 09:22

You can borrow one of mine.

I ordered mine in October to be prepared.

Never rely on a man for something so vital.

ThePoshUns · 15/12/2024 09:06

My algorithms are going to be so distorted after this thread

ChristmasEveNotChristmasSteve · 15/12/2024 08:55

Unforgivable.

JaneGrint · 15/12/2024 07:35

Oh my goodness 😮 That is one of the strangest centrepieces I have ever seen 😮

How could that possibly work as a bowl????

You could offer him the chance to make it up to you by spending that £28k on a nice trip away instead.

There's a picture showing how it works as a bowl with a cover. It's what every dinner table needs. How will you ever be able to hold your head up in society without one, OP?

maudelovesharold · 15/12/2024 08:48

As long as your guests are eating their lunch with this ‘must-have’ cutlery, no-one will notice a missing cabbage! williamwalter.co.uk/product/antique-silver-george-iii-coburg-pattern-flatware-for-24-made-in-c-1813/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAmfq6BhAsEiwAX1jsZ9DrCfn189VEqYjiaMTc4pYM3sD2Gink6caVkxX776RrxvZ4aNCkIxoCibIQAvD_BwE

1apenny2apenny · 15/12/2024 08:48

Oh come on easily solved. A Lidl cabbage and a can of silver spray paint, does your DH have no imagination. Using that method he could go all out and do a matching broccoli and a few carrots to really make a great centrepiece!
