He’s fucking locked me out.

Basically this. I’ve text him as I can’t get in, I’ve just finished work. He’s on a works Xmas party.

Said he was setting off at 8:45 and he’d be home for 9 so I said cool, take the key.

Now it’s 10pm and I’m sat in a fucking bus shelter because he’s locked me out and won’t come back with the keys, he’s out and apparently I’m unreasonable for asking him to come home to at least let me in.

I haven’t a clue what to do, it’s 4°, my street is poorly lit and this place doesn’t shut til 12. I can’t afford a lock change so that’s out of the question and my mums not in. So I literally have to just wait.

Get rid of this man child who is happily letting you sit out in the cold whilst he is having fun with his his mates, if he loses keys all the time it could end up being a security risk. Get the keys and tell him to sleep in the car as you won’t be opening the door to him

Engineweld · 13/12/2024 22:48

FuckingFreezing1 · 13/12/2024 22:22

I don’t actually know where he is. And there’s no way he’d tell me.
I think there’s something trauma bonding me. What it is I don’t know.

So many on here judging you for your decisions. Make sure YOUR SAFE!! Try to find somewhere you can go to or stay till he eventually turns up. Decide tomorrow if you're going to stay with him.

Trolleysaregoodforemployment · 13/12/2024 22:48

You gave your only set of keys to the person who cannot be trusted not to lose them?
You have to sit in almost freezing temperatures because he would be mad if you came to get YOUR keys.
If this was your daughter ( if you had/have one) what would you be telling her to do? Sit in the freezing cold?
You are not responsible for his behavior but you are enabling him.

Don't hate yourself. Break the cycle. You deserve more.

After 6 years of shit like this who’s to say I don’t hate myself.

Don’t hate yourself, hate him. He’s a turd.

After 6 years of shit like this who’s to say I don’t hate myself.

Ok. Crack on.

Are you hoping to end up hospitalised and make him feel SOMEthing? Guilty? Remorseful?

You clearly aren’t ready to be helped as there are a whole bunch of options open to you so I’ll leave you to it.

Quitelikeit · 13/12/2024 22:48

You are clearly afraid of him otherwise you’d have gone to get the key

Tbh you have got no guarantee that he is going to come home at 12 he could go on to a club or house party

He’s obviously a heartless bastard leaving you out in the cold tho

LauderSyme · 13/12/2024 22:48

OP you poor thing, what a complete wanker he is. I really hope this is the beginning of the end of this relationship, preferably sooner rather than later. Dumping him would be a great early Christmas present to yourself.

My experience of being with an abusive man taught me that you have to leave before you know for sure that you want to. Because the abuse and trauma mess up your head so much that you don't know anything for sure anymore. Good luck with everything 💐

Judgmental ............

Nothing wrong with being judgmental of poor behaviour. Typical silencing tactic and female socialisation will make many women back down in the face of name calling.

Beautifulweeds · 13/12/2024 22:47

Livinghappy · 13/12/2024 22:10

Get a key box.

For future, never let him have your keys. If he loses his, then he should have the inconvenience.

Yep key box, safe place, neighbour or family with a spare, have lots of back up options! I couldn't bear sharing one key and even less that he had lost his and taken mine. Nope, he gets spares cut for being an arse. X

raspberryripplecheesecake · 13/12/2024 22:47

If he cared for you at all, he would not be able to continue with his evening knowing you were stuck outside in the cold. I'd bet that if the shoe were on the other foot, he would be marching into the pub to get his key and wouldn't be outside freezing waiting for you to finish your evening. Can you alert a neighbour to let you in? So you can be safe?

CountZacular · 13/12/2024 22:47

OP, some people have been massive twats here, your UP (as someone called upthread called him) the most.

I think there’s a few things here. You need a plan tonight - is there anywhere local you can go to keep warm for now? A bar nearby to just have single drink whilst you wait?

You are righteously furious and I think, from what you’ve been saying, been fed up with him for a while but what’s been stopping you kicking him to the kerb before now? Will he talk you around? What changes?

You need to push this anger into changing your life because if you forgive for any reason, it’s just going to happen again and again and each time it will be worse than before until you wonder how you went from this to wherever you end up.

I do feel for you, hoping you are keeping warm now and can keep up that fire to do something about the useless twat in the cold light of day.

CandyLeBonBon · 13/12/2024 22:47

Go to where his Christmas do is, get the key off him and get another cut in the morning. If you knew he lost the last spare key, you'd surely have got another one cut for yourself?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/12/2024 22:47

Go to a hotel, seriously. Use any credit card you may have if necessary. Then tomorrow leave him. This is ridiculous. He’s left you in a dangerous, not to mention uncomfortable, situation.

And if he would start “”WW3” if you turned up then he’s really not worth staying with.

frockandcrocs · 13/12/2024 22:46

Just go an get the key form him.

No WW3 if he can't even get into the house.

MILLYmo0se · 13/12/2024 22:46

Curtainqueen · 13/12/2024 22:08

So how would you have got in anyway if you told him to take the only key?

He said he would be home at 9, when OP got home from work so as to let her in with her keys. Dumbass has gotten caught up with the Xmas party and decided she can sit on the doorstep and wait for him, if she goes to get them he is going to throw a temper tantrum

Isometimeswonder · 13/12/2024 22:46

Be single. Seriously, you'll be happier.

Wolframandhart · 13/12/2024 22:46

You need to break up. Stop living like this.

I'm sure I've read this almost exact scenario before?

HollyBaubles77 · 13/12/2024 22:45

Icanflyhigh · 13/12/2024 22:45

So what are you going to do about it?

Seriously, it sounds like a child's playground.
One key? Whether he lost a key or not, just get another key.

I sense there's a huge back story here and you're going to drip feed, when the bigger issue is that he's stayed out beyond 9pm.....

Oh so shut up!

Merryoldgoat · 13/12/2024 22:45

FuckingFreezing1 · 13/12/2024 22:41

I do have the money? I don’t have the money for an emergency locksmith which is over £200 and I’m not paying for it anyway. It’s not my fault he’s like this.

No, it’s not your fault.

But you ARE choosing to stay with someone whose behaviour shows how little he thinks of you.

You are staying with a man who hates you.

Herewegoagain84 · 13/12/2024 22:45

Right, so what are you going to do? There are a number of options - pick one and commit.

Icanflyhigh · 13/12/2024 22:45

FuckingFreezing1 · 13/12/2024 22:14

If I was a toddler I’d be tucked up in bed not locked out the house by a selfish pig so hardly “toddler issues”
The relationship is awful, this has to be the most vile thing he’s done and after 6 years of it even I’m shocked.

So what are you going to do about it?

Seriously, it sounds like a child's playground.
One key? Whether he lost a key or not, just get another key.

Beautifulweeds · 13/12/2024 22:45

Why don't you have your own keys? Time to get some new ones cut! What if someone lost that only key? 🤔

MoleAndBadger · 13/12/2024 22:44

Great, so you have funds. I would go to a supermarket, McDs, station or similar. At least get a hot drink and warm up.

It's not your fault but the consequences of remaining outside in the cold will be your fault.
