Oh Ok. How about a very gently poached turbot fillet with buttered asparagus then?

Also probably no I guess!

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 19:20

Not if I was or wasn't dying 👍

Words · 13/12/2024 19:16

Yes but we have already discarded those unwise options@CosyDenimShark .

Would you eat a nice fish pie?

CosyDenimShark · 13/12/2024 19:10

I'm veggie, I'd love vegetable lasagne or bean chilli with nachos and garlic bread, garlic mushrooms for a starter and a brownie or cheesecake for pudding!

Blush you are quite right. I have mixed up two threads.

But (puffs up ample bosom) please don't feed them curried lentils or chilli slop.

Veg lasagne is always pretty terrible too, unless you have no palate.

Fish pie might work.

🤣 we are still getting to the bottom of whether they are vegetarian or not. The OP doesn't state that they are, but I would include fish as being meat if someone said they didn't eat meat. Some people think the same as me, others not.

Readysetgooo · 13/12/2024 19:07

Homemade soup with a crusty loaf and thick butter.

Also yes to pp's suggestion of chilli and sides of sour cream, salsa and nachos.

Hungry just thinking about all the great suggestions 🤤

@WinterCrow , they are vegetarians, so they won't be eating fish.

@Grealish Personally I wouldn’t enjoy half the meals suggested. Me neither.
Soup isn't a meal IMO, and mushroom risotto sounds awful.

Soup is a perfectly lovely thing for lunch.

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 18:59

@Words out of curiosity, who is dying?

Words · 13/12/2024 18:56

You are suggesting cooking several bags of pasta, bread, and masses of fried mushrooms for a dying man?

Are you AI or simply stupid?

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 18:55

@JustDeserts traditionally no, but Yakso do a vegan oyster sauce if you ever fancied trying that recipe.

Mamasperspective · 13/12/2024 18:41

Get a variety of mushrooms - button mushrooms, portobello mushrooms, chestnut (as an example), slice them and fry off in some butter in a pan (I'm assuming they're vegetarian and not vegan?) then add a knorr veg stock pot for flavour and 1/2 tsp-1tsp of garlic puree, stir for a few mins and and a good glug of white wine. Cook for a few mins more and add some double cream or crème fraiche (whatever you prefer), season to taste. I normally then buy the bags of fresh pasta which you cook for 5 mins, cook a bag or 2 of that (depending on how many you're cooking for) then stir the cooked and drained pasta in with your mushrooms. Serve in a bowl with some fresh, chopped parsley on top and you may want to throw a couple of garlic baguettes in the oven to serve alongside. I've also served with a bowl of fresh salad with French dressing (as it helps to cut through the creaminess of the sauce). You could even fry off some sliced leeks at the same time as the mushrooms if you wanted more of a variety of veg in your pasta.

Sounds more complicated than it is, this is super easy to make and really tasty.

Fish pie.

Buy a really good quality white/bechamel sauce.

Mix in a packet of fish pie mix and some extra prawns. Lay in a dish and top with ready made mash...sprinkle with some grated cheese and bake until bubbling.

Serve with some steamed asparagus

Sorry, this did make me chuckle. The irony of your username 🤣🤣🤣

Comedy gold. I'm don't mean to be mean, I am being light-hearted. Totally prepared to be flamed.

What would the dying person like?

What will get their taste buds zinging? ( or trying to?) Thai flavours?

Christ when dying being offered a vegetable lasagne or curried lentils would finish me off. That would be The End.

mistification · 13/12/2024 18:32

Roasted veg lasagne is delicious - plenty of recipes online which I would recommend you follow if you're not a regular cook.

Mine is a tray full of peppers/red onions/cubed butternut squash/aubergine and courgette, roasted in the oven til caramelised. I then make a basic tomato pasta sauce with chopped onions and garlic, simmer it for a while til onions are cooked through, and stir in all the veg. Then layer it up with the lasagne sheets, top with cheesy sauce and grated cheese and bake.

@viques I think Dragons are technically meat 🤣.

Nah, I had to Google that and it sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing it.

You are welcome It’s such an ancient recipe, but I love it. Sarah Brown was one of the first cooks who produced interesting vegetarian recipes in the UK, seems hard to believe it now.

viques · 13/12/2024 18:25

Also George Alaghais family coconut Daal recipe on the BBC web page. Delicious, but add lots of garlic.

Red Dragon Pie, so delicious!

Oh my god

JustDeserts · 13/12/2024 18:17

@PollyPeachum , fish isn't vegetarian and neither is quiche lorraine.
