Child Safeguarding Win, Puberty Blockers have been indefinitely banned across the ENTIRE of the UK (for off label use, precocious puberty use remains)

A great day for child safeguarding, this is evidence, reason and medical expertise over pressure groups.

A terrible shame for those children that this is too late for, who have been permanently harmed by ideologues and will never be able to have their body back the way it should have grown.

Existing emergency measures in UK outlawing sale and supply to be made indefinite following official advice from medical experts"

if only we could Community Note you - there is zero evidence finding these drugs to be safe and effective and a huge amount to show they are the opposite.

Baroness Cass herself disagrees with you.

I suppose that's why studies keep finding them to be safe and effective then?

Is there any information showing that if you took puberty blockers til you were , say, 18, and then stopped, that you would then have normal puberty?
I see info on delaying puberty but for how long can you actually delay it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/12/2024 10:02

Please link one or more studies you find particularly compelling @ButterflyHatched

BodyKeepingScore · 12/12/2024 10:01

@ButterflyHatched except that they don't. Even Tavistocks own data showed that suicidal ideation and self harm actually increased after 12 months on puberty blockers. Dr Joanna Olsen Kennedy has deliberately suppressed the most comprehensive study on outcomes to date as it showed that there was no clear benefit to their use, and in fact, outcomes were often worse, because she didn't want the findings to be "weaponised" in trans healthcare provision.

There is no justification for delaying puberty in a physically healthy child. You're not just stopping the physical changes that occur during puberty, but also the cognitive development of the brain, leaving these young people developmentally behind their peers, often by as much as 3/4 years. Particularly in the development of the areas of the brain concerned with reasoning. So how is a teenager, whose brain hasn't been allowed to mature, meant to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to deduce whether they're on the right path.

It's child abuse. It's not healthcare in any shape or form. To developmentally handicap any child is astonishingly cruel.

Yes. There are many such parents on mn. Some of them very very distressed because they know their child has been influenced by social contagion and some who blindly accept this new persona their child has announced.

I have an immense amount of sympathy for any parent whose child is experiencing extreme distress, but the fact remains that these drugs do cause significant harm to young people when prescribed for dysphoria, and that parents have an obligation to inform themselves on the topic. In no other area of medicine do we allow children to diagnose themselves and demand a specific treatment and yet this is what many parents have done here. There will be many, no doubt, questioning their choices. This is appropriate and in no way a witch hunt.

I suppose that's why studies keep finding them to be safe and effective then?

They are. thats what it was banned. Thats why cross sex hormones for those under 25 ish will be banned soon as well

You will grow out of this buddy and those that don't just need some good quality psychotherapy.

You have no idea what you are even saying, do you?

I'm in my fourties. I've been dysphoric since I was able to articulate it as a child. I'm one of the lucky few who got treatment young. It doesn't go away. You don't 'grow out' of something that is a fundamental part of you.

@Mog65 Is there any such thing? No child is born in the wrong body!

This is the biggest medical scandal since Thalidomide, and you're claiming the whistleblowers and medical experts that are saving children's lives by calling this out are on a 'witch hunt'? Your priorities and values completely backwards!

'trans' children are like vegan cats - we all know who is making the decisions here. And its often munchausen by proxy.

Edited

Sometimes it's desperate parents of vulnerable children listening to health professionals.

In our area almost every autistic female with mental health issues suddenly started identifying as trans or non binary.

My daughter saw the same over 'gender' enthusiastic CAMHS healthcare worker.

So for many parents they were listening to professionals and trying to do their best. I feel deeply sorry for those families.

ArabellaScott · 12/12/2024 06:55

Yes. CAMHS needs major work and investment.

And it needs to stop trying to use 'gender' to remove autistic, gender non -conforming girls from it's case load by referring them on.

Hopefully it now has.

But this was my experience what they were doing in my area 2 years ago.

"Clinicians" running cowboy clinics out of Spain whilst suspended for malpractice in the UK, or who advertise to vulnerable teenagers on Tiktok that they will cut your breasts off from age 13 for $12000, don't count.

For anyone not aware of the kind of monsters we are talking about.

There's a video somewhere on that page which is just captioned something like, "How I feel when people tell me I can't do my surgeries for ethical reasons" and then she does a bunch of different crying, laughing and sneering faces.

Well done Wes Streeting. A shining light in an otherwise dire government. The man doesn’t seem to be for turning- I would love to know what caused his Road to Damascus conversion.

Deserves applauding for doing so

I'm just not sure what this ban is going to do in reality

Well, if it stops schools like mine from teaching kids that they can just take some drugs to fix their inappropriate bodies - well, that would be a really good start.
