To have realised I’ll never have a peaceful morning again …

Well, I will - but probably not for the best part of fifteen years.

Two young kids, obviously they are a lot of work. Older one was a 530 riser for a long time, hated that. But I’ve realised those lovely sleepy weekend mornings where you stay in bed or get up but do not much are gone for the forseeable.

DH does get them (sort of) as he works away quite regularly. I know he’s still working but no stress of getting children up. Just him, shower in peace. He does have them one weekend morning but they are so noisy it’s not much peace !

It does improve. Mine is 7 and even if he wakes up at 6 am at the weekend, he’s quite capable of going downstairs and switching the tv on by himself. And I don’t know any teenagers who wake before 9am on a weekend through choice.

Husband needs to take them out on your lie in day! How selfish of him to let them just run riot and wake you

AlbertCamusflage · 10/12/2024 08:20

It really won't be all that long before they are old enough to slum around doing their own thing quietly in the morning. And you will treasure the resulting lie-ins so much that it will almost have been worth the wait.

Fingers crossed! Mornings are so stressful at the moment.

On weekends mine get themselves up, have breakfast and watch some TV on their own, 7, 11 and 13 - been doing it for a few years though. They bicker a lot during the day but they are chill in the mornings and help the youngest so you might have a lot less than 15 years to wait.

It does sound nice but beyond budget at the moment unfortunately!

In January book yourself a night away in a nice local town. Go in just before lunch, have a nice lunch and a mooch, check in to hotel for a nap, have a nice solo dinner or pizza and wine in the room, and have a lie in! You can do this at a premier inn, it doesn’t have to be expensive.
I used to do this a few times a year when I had small ones. We do get to sleep a bit later now but there’s always the activities to get to! Everything was called off this Sunday and it was bliss! And my youngest is 8. So the days are approaching.

My mum did sweet FA - just stayed in bed; yelling for her artisan tea. Not recommending this as parenting.

My daughter is approaching 12 and rarely gets up at the weekends before 10am.
I think it depends on the kid tbh. She's never been an early riser really thankfully.

Do yeah. Let em stay up late Friday and Saturday and don't wake them on a Saturday or Sunday morning, give that a try and if that fails, lock em in the shed. 👍🏻👍🏻

Once your kids get to about 7 or 8 they will be quiet in the morning

mine are 10 and 11 and I get a decent lie in (not that I don’t tend to sleep late these days)
